Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

“slaughtered according to ________ ritual”
Kosher and Halal are basically the same ritual with different chants.
The food-taboo practices of both religions are nearly the same.
People who are offended by this can avoid Kosher or Halal easily by reading labels.
The real issue is a Canadian restaurant chain sourcing cheaper American corn fed beef, and using some hipster excuse to market the decision.
Earl’s is not the sort of place I would go for a meal anyway.
I just don’t understand how Halal or Kosher beef could be considered more humane. I grew up with cattle in Alberta and raised many of my own. Back when we branded wasn’t pretty but nobody ever went out of their way to cause cattle discomfort. I do not understand how cattle could be better treated than my family or most Albertans raise them. The whole premise “Certified Humane” is based on a lie.
“Kosher and Halal are basically the same ritual with different chants.”
Are they? http://pamelageller.com/atlas_shrugskosher-vs-halal/
And even if they are similar rituals, kosher slaughter is not supporting creeping islamization.

“People who are offended by this can avoid Kosher or Halal easily by reading labels.”
I hope you are right.
As for Earl’s turning its back on Canadian beef and using some hipster excuse, yes, that is an issue also.
There is always more to the story.
The media and the “journalists” will cover it up.
I would hardly call that an objective comparison, and website is obviously biased.
This is a much more objective comparison.

If you’re concerned about islamification be aware of this:
What’s happening in Europe and Scandinavia should be a warning to North America.
=This is What Happens to Countries that Muslims Occupy =
As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a “peace-loving minority”, and not as a threat to other citizens. This is the case in:
United States — Muslim 0.6%
Australia — Muslim 1.5%
Canada — Muslim 1.9%
China — Muslim 1.8%
Italy — Muslim 1.5%
Norway — Muslim 1.8%
At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs. This is happening in:
Denmark — Muslim 2%
Germany — Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom — Muslim 2.7%
Spain — Muslim 4%
Thailand — Muslim 4.6%
From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:
France — Muslim 8%
Philippines — 5%
Sweden — Muslim 5%
Switzerland — Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands — Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago — Muslim 5.8%
At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos) under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islamists is to establish Sharia law over the entire world.
Sweden shows what becomes common at 5% muslim occupation, and how political correctness ignores it and buries the stories.

When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris, we’ve seen car-burnings, riots, and now terrorist attacks. As a group they simply cannot be trusted. They won’t integrate and will always want special treatment.
We already have a large group of first immigrants who do that. We don’t need any more.
Interesting comments and I don’t have much skin in this one but worldwide there is a huge push to have foods certified Halal, even stuff that is vegetable in its composition, hell I’ve seen Halal certified pepper corns, so you have to ask the question and then you find out its all revenue, you don’t get to put the certificate on stuff for free and guess what those same Sharia compliance authorities are usually the ones giving monitory support to those who have made it abundantly clear they want to destroy the west.
So yes kt and others I take my time when I buy, a couple months ago I returned some coconut milk because I’d missed the ever so small Halal sign on the back, last week I and my local Sikh owned grocery were amazed to find the Halal certificate on a pack of Thai Red Curry Paste actually made in Thailand, so yes check and tell them why you are not buying.
Two other things from the comments:
If your a Christian and believe the Bible and its message then there is no escaping:
Acts 15:29 “That ye abstain from meats offered to idols and from blood, and from things strangled and from fornication.”
Although tempered by
Corinthians 10:27-28 “If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake.
BUT if any say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof:
Pretty clear there for “christians”
As to Kosher and it being the same as Halal, I don’t know how much Kosher butchering some commentators have seen, the bit I’ve seen or been aware of during my life, the animal is stunned at the very least and mostly was killed before being immediately bled and its certainly very very different to anything Halal in fact so much that I know one butcher an old school pal who was very hard to shock, was so sick at what he witnessed in the local “abattoir” hired out to muslims for a day that he wanted to call the police, that was 20 years ago in the UK no such small abattoirs exist now.
Was listening to CFCW out of Camrose today. They were doing an all-request program. Some group had put together a humorous song about the Earl’s snafu, and it was being requested several times per hour. Easily the most-requested song of the day, despite it being, shall we say, crudely-done. And no mention of the halal issue; just the fact that an Alberta restaurant is buying U.S. beef in preference to Alberta beef.
Exactly!
kt is right about Islamophobia being an issue. Considering what the Islamists are up to in their attempt to take over the world we are being prudent in having a fear of them, and a fear that translates to fighting them to prevent this. Kt will change its mind when all the womenfolk in his or her family will be bagged someday.
GregW, notice how kt avoided your second point.
“why did Kate bother mentioning … Earl’s happy, shiny new “Certified Humane” beef supplier is a Halal slaughterhouse”?
Because I think that most of the people who frequent SDA agree that slitting an animal’s throat then hanging it to bleed out while still alive, isn’t Humane. It’s the opposite of what Earl’s smarmy marketing campaign trumpets.
Exactly, and this is the ultimate lie in the sordid affair.
Earl’s will no longer be on our list of restaurants to patronize. And we will be looking more carefully at the labels in the supermarkets. No halal in our house.
I suspect that Kosher slaughter, since it was invented before the time of gun powder, was an attempt to slaughter the animal ‘humanely’. The ritual includes cutting nerves so the animal does not suffer pain. I can not say the same for halal slaughter since I can’t find any instructions beyond slitting the throat to let the live animal bleed out. However since invention of gun powder we do have more humane slaughtering methods whereby the animal is killed instantly and bled out seconds after its death. I’m a Christian so I am in no way restricted on the meat I eat or the way the animal was killed but given my druthers I would rather eat the meat of an animal that suffered the least pain at its moment of death which is the bolt or bullet through the brain first method.
Joe, The CBC coverage (National) was not about “Humanely”.
They repeat ably used the term “unethical & PAIN”. It seems that pain has become an unethical practice.
1. a Dentist is unethical
2. All sports that involve pain are unethical
3. Animal Husbandry is unethical
The CBC is over the edge with “unethical”. All human endeviours involve some pain, track & field racing, weight loss,.. etc
The only solution is the mass suicide of Humanity.
I noticed. I suppose there’s no point in arguing with someone who doesn’t want to listen to reason.
