It could turn out to be a nailbiter — for NDP leader Cam Broten who, it’s rumoured, is in danger of losing his seat. But stranger things have happened!
Thread open!
8:16pm Update: CTV declares a Saskparty majority government.
Twitter users can follow the #Skvotes tag, until the NDP rank and file come up with something more entertaining.
And it’s all over but the crying — down over 120 votes with only two polls remaining, it looks like Cam Broten has lost his seat. For those who choose not to gloat, I’ll be happy to make up the shortfall.
Premier Brad Wall: You can expect a government that's proud of oil and gas in this province #skvotes https://t.co/2hKl2uTRzD
— Global Saskatoon (@GlobalSaskatoon) April 5, 2016

Please Saskatchewan, give us conservatives some glimmer of hope here in Ontario. If so, I promise never ever to besmirch your province’s name again.
Personally I’m looking for a hat trick which would certainly make my day.
1. NDP almost totally wiped off the face of the electoral map.
2. My MLA to be re-elected.
3. Cam Broten to lose his seat.
All of the above are certainly attainable.
The commie, leftist NDP are about to hit the Wall.
I predict an early lead for the NDP until the Sask Party voters get off work.
We in B.C. are watching the Sask election with some trepidation. If the Dippers win the Prairies, we could very well lose B.C. to ’em next year, in an “agent orange” type of political wave.
Best wishes to Premier Wall and all his MLA’s, hope you win in a landslide.
Agree Don. Most of the Never Democratic Parasites will take a short break from the bar to vote, but hopefully the workers will change that around. If the flatlanders go leftie again, maybe B.C. will be the one’s wanting to separate!
And so what is on the National Broadcasters page today?
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/how-lopsided-will-the-sask-election-be-today-1.3519374
A lead suggesting that this is a “two way” race when it is barely a provincial referendum of grudging approval for a difficult job so far better done than most; and three other stories: two featuring the plucky come-from-behind opponent, and a third suggesting that not having a “strong opposition” is a failure of democracy. Glad to see mention of UNIFOR, the power behind crowds of rampaging taxi drivers across the Nation, out exercising its muscle with the rake off it takes from all those forced to contribute by closed shop laws.
I look at all politicians with a critical eye, and Mr Wall has some issues which deserve criticism and more openness than he has given us; but he is head and shoulders above any of his comparables in this country, be they provincial or federal.
I can hardly wait to hear Mr Trudeau’s acknowledgement of the result.
Maybe the Sask Party should run a slate in the next Alberta election, and then we can all work towards putting the Province of “Buffalo” back on the map where it should have been to start with.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Province_of_Buffalo
What’s amusing in the CBC link is how many obvious Dipper party workers there are obviously in despair over what’s about to happen.
Don Morris, we all want the SP to win, but not a complete wipeout like happened in New Brunswick in the 1990s. With zero opposition, governments get fat and lazy. A shrill opposition keeps them on their toes and thus less likely to collapse for the following election whenever that is.
Delicious STATIST tears please, Saskatchewan.
“A shrill opposition keeps them on their toes”
In normal situations … probably yes. But here in Saskatchewan, the NDP provide much more than shrill opposition. They picture themselves as the “natural governing party” and will oppose anything that the government does to the point of obstruction. We don’t really need an official opposition since the large public service unions and whacky offshoots such as “Save Our Crowns” will provide more than enough whining and bitching. It wouldn’t break my heart to see the final seat count at 61-0, although question period in the legislature might be kind of boring.
Not sure Brad Wall has ever called himself a conservative. He may have but I don’t recall?
The DipComs are no different here, wanting to also portray themselves as some kind of natural governing party here too.
We saw in the 90s how they talk a good game, but really have no clue how good governance works, as, is usually the case, the party is beholden to its puppet masters, at everyone else’s expense.
In BC, we saw how the NDP ran things. In their eyes, all unions are equal, however, some unions are MORE EQUAL than others. It was disgusting enough to watch them favour unions over sound business practices, however, their blatant gift giving toward certain favoured unions, let to their 77-2 defeat in 2001.
Some of us never forget this, the young uns, and the commies for life, don’t/won’t comprehend the incompetence/miscreants of the NDP
Dan;
The NDP will run the same campaign they did last BC election only this time they will not make the gaff of openly criticizing economic development, ie LNG in Rupert. They had the last election until that point.
I give them a better than 50% chance of winning the next election. The Dippers are very good at maintaining grass roots connections and of course they get the media support at every turn. I have no idea what the Clark government expects. They do not have a riding association in my area, Kootenays, and no government spokesman other than Bennett in a separate riding.
Is this starting to sound familiar? No different than the federal CPC. Absolutely brutal!
A painful reality has dawned on Alberta voters as they look back at last year’s election folly- an NDP government:
– My friend in Edmonton just received a pre-declined credit card in the mail.
– Calgary CEO’s are now playing miniature golf.
– Husky Energy laid off 5 Senators.
– Mormons are now just getting by with only one wife.
– Alberta’s McDonalds’ are now selling a 1/4 ouncer.
– Angelina Jolie adopted a child from Alberta.
– Formerly rich parents in Calgary are now firing their nannies and
are busy learning their children’s names.
– A truckload of Albertans was recently caught sneaking into Mexico.
– And some Albertans have already left for Yuma, Arizona, to save
on heating costs, carbon tax and have better access to cheap booze and
to find a safe way to sneak into Mexico before Trump builds his wall.
:D)
Along with moving to the left, I don’t really know what the FIBs stand for, other than balanced budgets.
They defend inflationary increases in MSP, ICBC and Hydro rates.
They support the greentard agenda, although, they move VERY slowly in that regard. Still, the carbon tax is a big bugaboo.
Their interests are very Vancouver centric, but they still have trouble garnering support for them.
As we saw with PM Selfie, the public doesn’t seem to care about deficits, because “other people pay” for that.
I fear the NDP getting in, it likely means massive tax increases to pay for their massive welfare spending, building palaces for the homeless, doubling welfare rates for the careless welfare mommas, etc.
The FIBs seem more interested in niche policy (dogs allowed in stores, cell phone fines) than actual economic and taxation policies. Rely on Christy’s luck again.
For the record, Horgan is a pompous ass, but a typical NDP apparatchik for life, no record beyond being a gubermint flunkie. We’re fecked again.
I predict a big lead for the NDP throughout the day, until the Saskatchewan Party voters get off work.
The federal election was better. At the school that hosts my polling station fund-raising parents have a bake sale in the lobby, but this time, no custard tarts.
Ooooh, that one will hurt!
Good one!
Thankfully the NDP campaign ad was Alberta. Worked great. Only 3 more years and 1 month of stupidity.
Really nice to see the good folks of Sask have kept their wits about them and have looked to their cousins to the west and realized how fortunate they are to not have to deal with the Socialists. Might be looking for employment there sooner than later. Things are pretty grim here in AB!
You are the bright light in this country, now don’t screw things up!!! Keep pulling to the right and chopping at the Marxist pillars every chance you have.
Back in the day, provincial election held the same day as our Brownie cookie blitz. Had to hand out cookies in the parking lot as the Community Association had rented hall to one of the parties. Made up for that by selling a case to the young woman in charge of said party: she reminisced as to how Guide cookies were best eaten frozen – her Mum bought several boxes and froze same, so the kids had to dive into the freezer and eat quickly.
Quickly reorganized selling parties to cover both entrances to the local school which was also the polling station. We made a bomb!!
14 more sleeps and Manitoba’s NDP go the same route as their Sask cousins.
This will give you up to the minute results
http://results.elections.sk.ca/
I do hope the NDP does not suffer an extinction event. A lingering death with the accompanying sobbing, wailing, mea culpas and regrets is far more entertaining.
63% of the vote. Wall has the mandate to go full thatcher – no excuses.
Interesting listening to the dejected talking heads doing the inevitable disection of the socialist’s downfall. Hint- when analyzing feces, yer bound to wallow in the stink.
A good day, to be sure.
It’s one of the best things to happen in the political area recently but do not underestimate the NDP. The promise of other people’s money can always attract a crowd !

The video link has a tag that reads “the media could not be played.”
Too bad that wasn’t the case in Ottawa.
Will this mean that the Saskatchewan NDP will move even further to the left, just like Labour in Britain or the federal NDP:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZwGxbpEIQA
Mr. Buckingham now leading by 124 votes in S’toon Westview. Fingers crossed.
Why do they call it Westview?? On clear day–you can see Alberta!
Very disappointed to see the negative comments, especially at CBC and Radio Canada. As if to say that Sask Party and Brad Wall did NOT deserve to win!!
The ridings along the Alberta border (Cypress Hills, Kindersley and Lloydminster) have the lowest % NDP vote.
I think Cam Broten is the only incumbent to get defeated, how about that.
Taxi for Cam Broten 🙂
On the other hand my local candidate Muhammad Fiaz (Regina Pasqua) is up with 1 poll left. Hope his result holds.
Global News now lists David Buckingham elected with 123 vote lead!
Glory Glory…..
To the NDP: orange juice sorry ran in this election?
Re: CBC comments. I used the Global feed via Internet, and was very frustrated at the unbelievable bias. They spent more air time wishin’ and a hopen’ that Cam Broten might squeak out a victory than they spent on Brad Wall and the Sask Party. Thank goodness for SDA.
I just left the Bigger-Sask Valley campaign office. Smiles all around.
It is now 11:25 here, and I am wondering if the CBC is still predicting an NDP win?
Yes–I saw that too!! Commie baztardz!
I have to disagree with you, I like the Sask Party, but I would never vote for a Muslim. I hope he loses.
I have to ask, does this result mean Cam Broten gets a free Greyhound ticket to B.C.?
Congratulations Saskatchewan!
And thanks for showing that voters in ONE Province still have common sense.
A little light shines on a dark Canadian electoral landscape.
Big question now is; will Manitoba smarten up in two weeks?

A lock for the Sask Party with a 232 vote margin…the last seven polls increased David Buckingham’s lead for a convincing route across the province.

Go CTV news!
11:40 and they are still talking about how close Cam Broten is to getting his seat, 30 minutes after last poll reported and he lost and the seat. The Saskatoon map they showed even listed his seat as Sask Party elected.
They spent the rest of the election coverage talking about all the seat gains made by the NDP. …you know, that one extra seat…out of three new seats available.
Now midnight and CTV is still saying 11 seats for NDP and saying that they can’t call 3 seats because of absentee ballots. They made it very clear that Cam Broten was still not defeated as a result.
The 3 seats they listed were:
SASKATOON WESTVIEW
REGINA PASQUA
PRINCE ALBERT NORTHCOTE
but…
REGINA CORONATION PARK
SASKATOON FAIRVIEW
SASKATOON RIVERSDALE
are all seats that had either a lower total difference between the 2 leaders OR had a lower % difference between candidates.
Are they just looking for a way to avoid saying Cam Broten was defeated?
from CBC NEWS Saskatoon
“The winner was the David Buckingham, who received nearly 57 per cent of the vote while Broten followed closely at almost 55 per cent.”
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/ndp-leader-cam-broten-loses-seat-1.3520908
Those people at CBC are idjits. Whatever they’re paid, it’s too much.
Really ,what you’re missing is Bucking ham didn’t win because he didn’t get over 50%of the votes. So Broten actually won. I’m expecting that will be our new voting system. After all the Sask Party only received 63% of the vote so at least 1/3 of the seats should be NDP.
The cbc audience will not know the difference.
You may expect way more than they can handle from the LIV’s.
To them, the socialists ‘ve won, the results must be in error.
