Sorry about the delay, work and other events took my attention today. Your federal budget thread: For the millions of Canadians who voted for the Liberals in the fall election, it’s a thing of beauty.
During election @JustinTrudeau said he would hike deficit by total of $25.1 billion over 3 years. This budget hikes it by $29.4 billion in 1
— Lorrie Goldstein (@sunlorrie) March 22, 2016
More from Brian Lilley

I don’t get it.
He said the budget would balance itself.
Since budget deficits are just another way of spending other people’s money I don’t see why this is unexpected.
Only Liberals could come up with something this inane.
Budget 2016: New office aims to counter violent radicalization
The new body, called the Office of the Community Outreach and Counter-radicalization Co-ordinator, will provide leadership on Canada’s response to radicalization to violence, according to Tuesday’s federal budget.
It will also support community outreach and research and co-ordinate joint federal-provincial and international initiatives to counter radicalization.
Starting with initial funding of $3 million in 2016-17, the federal budget will provide $35 million over five years to the new office, with ongoing funding of $10 million a year.
Is there some kind of self loathing in eastern Canada that they keep doing this to a country they supposedly love? (although in all fairness I suppose I can hardly point fingers since a certain segment of Albertans just shot everyone here in the foot as well).
If nothing else, it is fun watching these ever optimistic left wing voters chase “free stuff” down the street….like the fat guy that keeps kicking his own hat every time he stoops to pick it up.
TimR – no, Liberal governments throwing money at problems and hoping that they go away is par for the course. If people wanted any wisdom or consideration of outcomes then they would have re-elected the Conservatives.
Shiny Pony yesterday: END RACIAL DISCRIMINATION!
Shiny Pony today: If you’re Red Indian, here’s a bunch of money taken from every other race!
What’s surprising is that people are surprised how off-target the Lieberals were between promises and reality. Fear not, Canadians will soon wake up and in the next election toss these morons out. Just like we in Ontario did with Kahleen Wynne in the last provincial elect…oh wait…never mind.
There will indeed be future pain and misery resulting from this, when just like in 1994-5 some future government is forced to move to operating surpluses to pay down some of this. What Morneau is also forgetting is that even a small increase in interest rates (which we don’t control, the US does) will bring much greater misery with it.
And just like last time, this government is going to let the CF rust out. Note the cuts to DND in this pail of pigswill, particularly the capital expenditure programs.
Make no mistake folks, this is a mall rat’s budget. He’s got daddy’s credit card and he’s going to the mall to buy bling. Just what you’d expect from a Shiny Pony.
“Federal budget 2016 consigns Canada to $118.6 billion deficits into next decade”
So, $10 billion less than what the Harper Conservatives added to the federal debt. Progress!
So many idiot CF members voted liberal this time it’s not even funny. At the base in esquimalt the liberal had a sign up saying the liberals were going to increase funding for the navy. Some people are just stupid as hell.
This 25.4 billion deficit will turn out to be larger and it is just the beginning. You can expect 50 to 70 billion deficits soon enough. The truth is that more and more Canadians just don’t care about things like “deficits”. They don’t understand these things and it just plain old fashion bores the heck out of them. And that is why we have a Liberal government.
kt- so give the Conservatives a majority for 10 years and see what budgetary deficits result. Or do you not remember the minority government budgets that required Liberal and/or NDP support?
Good, let those that vote Liberal kit up and defend Canada. I sure as hell won’t be.
When you buy an election with stolen loot to give shiny objects to low-intellect and or low-morality voters, you certainly can’t rely on the structural budget. That’s why the word “Trudeau” and “deficits” are synonymous. The loot must be stolen from the unborn as Canadian governments won’t budget for existing programs let alone new ones. If this were the private sector, these assholes would all be imprisoned.
The Clown Prince believes that *government* is the engine of the economy, not small businesses:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmsDhtN5Hn8
After all, according to him, small businesses are simply used as tax dodges by the corrupt rich. Talk about being disconnected from reality. Add to that Red Rachel’s minimum wage hike. I see us returning to the bad old days of the early 1980s.
I remember being in Edmonton shortly after PET had his “walk in the snow” and going through a business park under construction. It was under construction, yes, but there was absolutely no activity when I was there. It was dead quiet during a working day. Block after block of semi-finished buildings, recently poured concrete curbs, and new asphalt on the streets and I don’t recall there being much traffic, either.
I don’t think it’ll be long before that will become a familiar sight again. This time, though, instead of the buildings being partially finished, they’ll have plywood over the windows and “For Lease” signs hanging on the outside walls.
Sunny days, friends, sunny days…..
He has never cut a paycheque. The people who worked for me always got paid even if I didn’t . I never received a thing from the government for the hours I spent meeting their deadlines. I did however get fined if I made an error. But the government will make things more efficient. And I will happily take a bet on the 29.4 billion figure being accurate. But obviously anyone in business is getting rich.
“For the millions of Canadians who voted for the Liberals in the fall election, it’s a thing of beauty.”
Beauty? I have another word that starts with B that is more fitting.
Which part of debt service charges, from previous administrations, don’t you understand, John?
Apparently Harper is responsible for the debt service charges of his daddy’s debt and well as Justin’s new deficits to add to that. Same economic conditions as with Harper, actually some improvement – balanced budget, six months later – $30b deficit and surely growing (don’t worry it will hit imho despite Grit “projections”).
After all governments that get spending out of control always spend their people rich eh?
When an erstwhile and previously seemingly sensible denizen of Bay Street dons the Finance Minister’s shoes and then starts spouting vacuous turdopian drivel, you just know trouble is coming down the road.
http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-politics/john-ivison-with-federal-budget-liberals-have-consigned-canada-to-118-6-billion-deficits-into-next-decade
I’ll be real surprised if, with their attitude, the Liberals can keep the deficit below 30 billion. Time will tell.
I hear ya, Concerned. Business people are never given any credit for the voluminous work they do on behalf of the government – reporting, collecting and remitting taxes, CPP, EI, WSIB, EHT, PST’s, Garnishments and Corporate filings. Not to mention the share of deductions that businesses are required to match or exceed on behalf of employees.
All they get is grief. God help them if a payment is inadvertently missed. Penalties and interest worthy of loan-sharks are assessed and accompanying notices are both threatening and incredibly rude and insulting. But what is most galling is that when it is the government’s mistake, you are still required to confirm to them by fax, no less, (phone nor email are not worthy) that their recognized and acknowledged mistake is indeed a mistake.
I am so sick of the demands of government. I’m ready to pack it in.
There are a lot of new Muslims that will need 100% support indefinitely. Being empty headed, empty hearted and empty handed is gonna need a lot of that new free money the nation plans to borrow.
Jr’s government is only 5 months old, but with this budget one can see the nightmare of the 1968-84 era reappearing. PET ran a budget deficit 15 out out 16 years and left Canadians with such a mountain of debt it hobbled finance ministers for almost 2 decades. Like Trudeau Sr, Jr has no
interest or mental inclination to monetary/fiscal matters, “the budget will balance itself” or formerly “we owe it to ourselves”. The scary part is that the stimulus spending isn’t even in response to a recession, we are not currently in one. Thus Keynesian economics is turned on its head as Liberals run deficits in good times, bad times and indifferent times. Indeed it looks as if “Canada is back”, to permanent deficit spending, leaving a fiscal mess for future generations to deal with.
The good news is Prime Minister Poopy Pants gave the CBC 675M more!
When I get a call from CPC for a donation I will now refuse until their platform includes privatizing those CBC b@stards.
Chretien was forced to run surpluses because even he couldn’t spend all the taxes received from hard working boomers booming at the workplace; but only after they were forced to cut taxes. Then again those Grits starved the provinces of cash, pilfered EI; when the IMF said stop, we got Martinism. Until he met Bono and went progressive, then we got Paulism.
IOW same Grit act, different era; push it to the limit, run deficits whenever necessary for Liberals, that is, Canadians. But it’s not the same out there on big bad planet earth and we keep greening ourselves into non-competitiveness and lost productivity, and high taxes. That means everybody eats our lunch.
But the party, well that’s a different story. They’re back. It’s time to get to work on the legacy.
So now we have confirmation that statist budgets written on dinner napkins rarely pan out. Can someone let the media know?
Not a bad budget for a socialist NDPer……….oh, wait!
For Liberals, businesses are evil, unless they’re from Quebec.
Morneau is a Bay streeter? You would think the dumbazz would know, inside and out, the REAL meaning of the word Investment! Hint, Hint, government spending in an EXPENDITURE, there is no investment, its sunk costs. Lying SOBs!
Military dudes, yes, your really ARE that stupid to think Liberals are your friends. They are every bit the peaceniks that the NDP is, but, hey, they make you feel real good about it, right?
Judging from this “budget”, one should invest in Booze, Tobacco, and Discount grocery store stocks, the welfare community just got some extra dough to “invest” in Friday nights!
I told my wife today, what really pizzes me off about this, is that we are not the ones that will be stuck with these debts, its our young adult children stuck with the bill. One of them voted for His Dufus, despite our threats….
James, in which case such Lib-voting CF members got the government they deserved, did they not? One of the key things that separates us conservatives from the riff-raff of the left is that we believe that personal actions, or lack thereof should have personal consequences.
What’s that line from The Mikado? Ah yes, “Let the punishment fit the crime>”
Oh, you silly Canadian people … Get back to me when your country is running an $ 18 Trillion (and counting) deficit ! What do you think Obama was whispering in Junior’s ear ? He was telling your boi that he can spend ALL the taxpayer largesse he wants. With impunity. He can even get reflected ! After Stealing from your children’s future. Soon, you will be wondering who the hell is voting these fools into power …
Coyne is calling the budget a fraud. It’s on main web page at Natpost
Small wonder so many pedophiles are Liberals, your children are getting screwed.
Sold into slavery so a bunch of parasites can party on.
Separating from the east is an economic necessity.
Funny how in Guild of Parasite speak, infrastructure is welfare spending, handouts and waste.
Yup that is gonna build something of value and benefit to our grandchildren.
Nice to see the brainiacs spending even more to perpetuate Apartheid in Canada, at least one Liberal policy will march on.
Super Green Budget, lots of your green marching to Liberal pockets, gangrene introduced into every producing business and all kinds of greenhorns pretending knowledge.
I predict Canada’s own electric car, double subsidized by years end, to save the planet of course.
On the bright side, CPC governed like old liberals, new liberals govern like NDP school children, Kleptocracy is losing control of their only tool, That Big Lie.
“We are here to help you,we are from the government”
And the other” Government is necessary”.
In Western Canada both the GST collection division and the Income tax collection division are in the same building. Yet when you mail in remittances the GST remittance is deemed to have been delivered by postmark whereas the Income tax is deemed to have been delivered when they actually receive it.
A few years ago my wifes business had a mix-up in their GST remittances and for some reason the money got put into an account different from the usual account but still in her companies name. The govt contacted her to say she hadn’t paid but she proved it with a canceled cheque. They eventually figured out they had put the money towards the wrong account so she said no problem, take it out of one and apply it to the correct acct.Nope, they couldn’t do that so she had to issue another cheque and then wait for a refund. ALL bureaucrats are under worked over paid incompetents.
What an utter mess we now find ourselves in, where every last one of the good policies the Conservatives put in place are being blown to bits. I barely have words to put in writing my views on this atrocious budget.
When the Conservatives next get into power (not if, but when) they need to find a way to change the system so that *for once* conservative policies cannot be undone so easily.
Liberals, leftists and maggot-infested progressives seem to have no trouble making their policies stick around for years, if not decades. Conservatives need to find a way to do the same.
Try to imagine if Harper had introduced such a budget?? From +1.9 Billion to -29B$ in a year!!
Check out this 2015 article from CBC.Ca. And I’m sure the CBC tweaked the figures to make Harper look as bad as they could. Click on the arrow to the right of Harper’s picture.

Imagine if PM Harper would have concocted a mess such as this one! Check out this 2015 Cbc.Ca article And I’m sure they tweaked it as much as they could get away with to make PM Harler and the CPC look bad!!

Did Bomb-ba-deere get any dough?
I recently had the misfortune to spend 10 days in Thunder Bay ON. They have a Bomb-ba-deere plant there that makes street cars for the TTC (Toronto subway). This is a rusted out hulk (think soviet) of a building that I believe assembled rifles during WW11. The cheerful staff I’m told engages in 2 things. Hiding from duty and stealing. Apparently security is lax and theft is common.
The plant turns out cars months behind schedule. TTC’s complaints fall on deaf union ears and the contracts keep coming. Why? How? This is what Bomb-ba-deere wants a billion dollars for. To prop up inefficiency. Oh, and to vote liberal.
So, $10 billion less than what the Harper Conservatives added to the federal debt. Progress!
Ignore the surplus which would have been in place if Harper had won.
Blind ignorance is every communist’s chief stock in trade, after all.
One day at a time, folks. Be thankful that you wake up, hopefully you go to bed with a full belly.
It could be worse, at least where I live it didn’t snow today.
Was this a budget or a loan for bubblegum and candy for the Liberal kids?
To all you CARP members who believed the liberal lies and voted for them. At your ages you would think you would have learned by now that liberals are masters at lying during election campaigns. So with your help the liberal will saddle your children and grandchildren with insurmountable debt. thanks again.
What a freaking state of affairs we are in with this Liberal Cabal and they’ve only just begun. A chicken in every pot but the middle class will end up with no pot to put the chicken in when the “rich” leave town to keep their businesses alive. Robin Hood would not be able to operate in Liberal Canada.
30 Billion in deficit spending to stimulate business….
That’s less than the amount of business investment dollars lost in the coal, oil and gas sector from a carbon tax and regulation.
The tax and regulation is about punishing and controlling the West.
The budget is about Pork, kickbacks form Natives and Infrastructure and solidifying their base in the East.
Exactly
Spare me the media criticisms – they all campaigned and voted for Trudeau. Any criticisms they have now is just theatre. They would vote for him again tomorrow.
This outcome was not hard to predict. My prediction for first Lib budget was 30 billion. Not hard to figure out that Libs were lying when they said 10.
40 would be to high for even the Libs.
This will be the smallest deficit the Libs will run in the next 4 years.
Just wait until we have another economic crisis – 100 billion deficits.
Democracy died in Canada Oct. 19, 2015, killing the country will take a little longer. Even Mugabe didnt do it overnight
Budget news: Feds give Shared Services an extra $383.8-million to complete IT consolidation. Liberal government proposes to amalgamate government-wide HR, financial and information management in 2016 budget.
Typical bureaucratic thinking. If a pet project fails don’t kill it – just throw more money at it.
A single virtual post office (i.e., one ring to rule them all) hosting a million addresses? Insanity on steroids. Not to mention the millions of inbound messages to single mailbox – gridlock is bound to ensue.
Then there’s the threat of a potential single point of failure. A clever malware author of a zero-day exploit could easily bring the whole thing down in a matter of minutes, effectively crippling the entire government.
The queen’s cowboys and the Supreme court have already stated they want no part of this.
“If it moves, tax it, if it keeps moving, regulate it, if it stops moving, subsidize it.” Ronald Reagan
Welcome to the new world overlord order. No financial crisis, yet a $30b and growing deficit. No recession yet spending anyway to prevent it. Tell the middle class you’re going to give them money, when they’re just laundering it, minus the statist cut. Their child tax benefit (CTB), replete with clawbacks, gives less than Harper’s measures once family income exceeds $42,000.
Harper: surplus/balanced budget from $55 surpluses in less than three years.
Trudeau: $30b+ deficits (I predict it will top $35 when PBO others weigh in), continued deficits well past the Grit’s “promises.” Modest deficits, balanced budgets within mandate, and lowering of debt/GDP. All broken promises. No change there. Here’s the change. Using anti-Harper semantics:
– reduction to small business tax rate cut – cancelled – tax increase.
– family tax cut for middle class Canadians – cancelled – tax increase.
– UCCB, CTB, CCB – canceled for Grit Canada Child Benefit – tax increase for over $42K family income – tax increase.
– students claiming student amount/textbooks – cancelled discourage new, poor students but give their teachers a tax credit – tax increase.
– labour sponsored venture capital federal credit reinstated – payoff to union sponsors; taxpayers subsidize poor quality securities instead of investors taking the risk, while removing the tax free portability of corporate class mutual funds – tax increase.
– CBC and other mediocracy outlets rewarded for pulling off the big lie – borrowed tax dollars to subsidize.
– lots of money for greenies to waste as we head towards the cave, I mean the new green pipedream, er economy – tax increase.
– job killing anti-growth policies given new life; no worries EI benefits extended for some, except apparently Redmonton.
– $1b for “affordable housing” and homelessness. Well since they’re making more of both, we might as well pay for it.
– $3.4b for public transit boondoggles. Use private construction but Guido, I mean Justin, takes his cut, with no concerns over cost overruns. Crony Bombardier can get this contract to make a mess as in London and Toronto, failing to complete on either but sure their new jet is a sure thing.
Still these statists manage to run a deficit. When are we going to have a debate about how much government is enough, aside from the pain threshold of the taxpayer before they yell uncle? We have a bad habit of shooting ourselves in the foot when living gets too easy. No problem, it just got harder.
Upcoming, lots of red ink with “infrastructure” funds used for government consumption and payoffs to cronies like Bombardier, at $75,000 subsidization for every job saved, I mean, created. Meanwhile, the government issues short term to debt to finance, maybe because nobody wants their long bonds:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-03-23/canada-passes-up-chance-to-lock-in-rates-on-record-borrowing
Harper was right all along, on every count. He shouldn’t wander too far away.
D’yall think the $2.66 Billion increase in Aboriginal Education funding will be any different than the Decades of Liberal Education Funding, Johniee?—-You do understand Mr. Ivison that the Liberal Party of canada/Ontario/Quebec Has CANCELLED the LAW which made the Education Funding for Aboriginal Children be kept Separtate and not Part of the Aboriginal Rulling Oligarchic Families Spending on Their Own Family Cruises and Super-Duper loaded Pickups and Luxury Automobiles.
Towards the end of the document is the proposal to create a ‘bail-in regime’ for bank recapitalization. To me that is about as scary as anything in the whole document.
Spending your way into a recession. Interesting strategy.
Dear Mr. Goldstein
After
(a)Dildo McDinky getting re-elected twice,
(b)his henchwoman Wynne getting a majority after that, and
(c)little bunnykins turdo la doo getting the top spot after absenting himself from parliament so he could collect five-figure speakings fees from charities and schools…
do you really think that truth, honesty and ethics matter to the majority of Canadians?
