I write this from my home in Canso, Nova Scotia, less than three kilometres from Maritime Launch Services’ “launch pad.”

Little more than a concrete shed pad at the end of a gravel road with two sea cans, Maritime Launch’s “Spaceport Nova Scotia” was recently lavished $20 million a year for 10 years by our federal government to further develop its facility, and as it now boasts to investors — send rockets into space on “150+” launch days a year.

Seems legit.

Let’s start at the beginning with the company itself, an American-Ukrainian start up that called itself Maritime Launch Services, and registered with Nova Scotia Joint Stocks in October 2016. […]

A project of the Ukrainian Space Agency, MLS was created specifically to launch the Cyclone 4M, a rocket designed by Yuzhnoye, the Ukrainian agency’s design and business office.

Despite claims for years that they were “maturing the launch vehicle,” this rocket has never been built.

The Ukrainian Space Agency suffered a series of losses due to ongoing scandals, mismanagement, malfeasance and corruption Among them was a spectacularly failed 10-year project in Brazil, and allegations of deals with North Korea, a breach of contract case with Boeing that would cost them USD $200 million, and the theft of over $10 million from Export Development Canada funds provided in a deal with MDA, a scam that would span 2011-2017.

Despite this history, in 2017 the Government of Canada, including then President of the Canadian Space Agency, Sylvain LaPorte, signed an agreement to “co-operate in space.”

      1. JMM, I live in the dependent shithole known as the Maritimes, this crap is not the garden variety welfare, this is Libranos stealing to pay other Libranos period.

    2. Did I read this correctly? Tied to Ukrainian money laundering? I may have had to connect a few dots, but it’s plainly there to see for all. We don’t HATE this government enough. Alberta I hope you can make it happen and break up this rotten corrupt cesspool of a confederation.

Canada’s economy boils down to government money laundering operations (business “investments”, foreign aid, NGOs, procurement, etc), flipping real estate, government protected business cartels, government employment and corporate welfare…mainly paid for by the productive yet hated blue collar workers in agriculture, mining and energy industry.

    I am, of course, omitting the narcotics trade, home invasion and auto theft organized crime syndicates that launder their money through Canadian banks since they’re officially illegal in Canada although rarely prosecuted or hindered in any way by the Canadian legal system.

      A criminal enterprise, where you controlled all the procurement to supply a whole country.
      A criminal enterprise, where you controlled the bidding process, in which you’d have the final say in who gets to provide services to a country.
      A criminal enterprise, where you control foreign aid, both the amount and whom will receive it.
      A criminal enterprise, where you control all appointments made by government, from Senators to who heads the “are see em pee”,,, from Committees to Ambassadors,,, from Intelligents to who is a Cabinet Minister.
      A criminal enterprise, that wouldn’t have to care about paying off it’s debt, or the future of the country,,, as long as you can buy off enough citizens with freebies, to get re-elected and maintain power.
      If mobsters could dream Big, would that be the ultimate enterprise,,, to be in control of a government?

  17. Maybe the Libs are channeling Gerald Bull who used to have a facility in Nova Scotia where he hoped to develop artillery shells that could be fired into space. But the actual test launches were carried out in the Bahamas for the same reasons as outlined a post above. It never did succeed, but he developed a fantastic artillery system for South Africa.

    1. Project HARP managed to get a shell to 111.8 miles, which is about 55 miles higher than Space Cadet Katy Perry reached, and well above the Karman Line.

      That the government of the day gave up on him, which did eventually lead to his death, as a result of Project Babylon.

      1. I remember Bull. He had some test facility near Mansonville, just across the border from the gliding club. Anyways he was apparently working on a Super Gun for Saddam Husssein back in the day. He was assassinated in Belgium in 1990 outside his appartment. Nobody was charged. Israel doesn’t know a thing about it.
