  1. Well Nagra Turban offends me, otherwise why doesn’t he have anything to say about the sensitivity of indigenous white cultures?
    They the non white immigrants walk all over our lands, take from our bounty and return nothing but trouble.
    I’m also offended with Bride Burnings Nagra, as well as honor killings, and aborting female fetuses because of gender preference. Why not concentrate on those issues instead you meathead trouble making race baiter.

  4. Notice who gets to decide what is offensive? I find the slutwalk crowd far more offensive than a team jersey, yet you can bet that sort of dress will not be targeted in the schools. Cuz it’s all about self-expression, ya know!

  5. People who object to the use of native symbols do not understand the significance of the native impact on the dominant culture. All of the symbols and names chosen for sports teams that use something associated with native cultures are chosen because they identify natives with a fierce, strong culture. These symbols become an inroad to mainstream culture and some natives are often proud of the impact they have had. Instead the PC crowd wants to marginalize natives and turn them into victims. Some natives agree with this because of the prospect of getting money through exploitation of guilt. This is not healthy and will never lead to a reconciliation of cultural differences.

  8. This is what happens when Leftists bring 2016 sensitivities into a historical reality that they know nothing about.
    The reality is that the name was “in honour” of Louis Sockalexis, a Native American, who had played in Cleveland (1897–99).
    Any “offensive” name had its origins in HONOUR and was not disparaging in any way. This is true of the Edmonton Eskimos, Chicago Black Hawks, Washington Redskins, Atlanta Braves, and especially of the Cleveland Indians.
    It’s what happens when a “new” Canadian comes and doesn’t know much about Canada or the U.S. and then works their way to the top of a cushy job which then gives him the power to rewrite history.

  10. Chicago Black Hawks offensive? The guy is a moron and offensive. The team was named after a great chief who went to war against the US army in 1832.
    Nobody has yet figured out why Eskimo is offensive. There are several conflicting opinions, all BS. While Eskimos may very well call themselves Inuit, I speak English and the English call most nationalities something other than what they call themselves. No offence is intended but if it is, so what, we speak English.
    A lot of Indians themselves love these team names. For a turd wearing a turban to start making assumptions on their behalf is demeaning and offensive.

  19. All this wailing and hand-wringing over the names and logos of sports teams is so tedious. Have these people nothing to better occupy their time? Are they that bored with life that they must continually search for something to cause offense? If so, then why not carry this idiocy to the extreme? Yankees may offend southerners. Pirates and Buccaneers must somehow drive the descendants of Captain Kidd to distraction. Colts, Stampeders, Cowboys and Broncos just have to irritate horse lovers. Patriots offend the non-patriotic. Phillies is offensive to pedantic spell-checkers. Arsonists are needlessly bothered by Flames. And the list goes on and on. Silly. Right? Any more ridiculous than getting all bent out of shape over the Washington Redskins?

  24. You can relax now and feel better. Redskins peanuts are no longer called that anymore.
    Went recently to Picards, one of many nut stores here in Ontario. I asked for redskins and was promptly told they were no longer called that. I believe they are now referred to as Virginia peanuts.
    This, soon after I went to buy some Niger seed for a bird feeder. Nope, no longer called Niger seed because it can be confused with a racial slur. Now called Nyjer seed. They still originated in the Nyjer river area of Nyjeria-or something like that.

    I swear I saw both redskins and Virginia peanuts together and assumed they were different species; but maybe that was at Bulk Barn not Picards. I thought Virginia nuts were slightly bigger.
    Speaking of Virginia, why does the old Confederacy plus parts of the New south have to put up with a slur like Yankees as a team slogan?

  26. I’m offended by “Vikings” since my ancestors were probably the ones who occupied Normandy. They didn’t have horns in their helmets. Their pillaging and looting were early expressions of “fair” wealth redistribution and the raping and slave-taking were simply reactions to the oppressive heteronormative gender constructs and class oppression of the soil-disant “civilized” cultures they encountered. The killing and burning were necessary for their revolutionary direct action, shock doctrine and “Occupy Europe” movement to gain full coherence in the face of reactionary class and economic oppression amplified by the politico-religious dominance of the anti-democratic exploitational system. (Besides, it was kind of fun.)

    Most offensive sports team name on the planet has to be the New Zealand rugby team that travels the world and regularly kicks the shi* out of other teams, the “All Blacks”!
    Canada should found a rugby team and name it “All First Nations”,then go and beat up on those new Zealander sissies!
