So stupid they are doubling down on the same Liberal Party love-fest they’ve been having for the last 70 years, while they circle the Great White Bowl of corporate bankruptcy…
Rather than stupid I would call it clear eyed dedication to the cause.
I gave up reading print editions of newspapers for a number of reasons, as much of what was printed in them was completely irrelevant.
I don’t care about “lifestyle” articles. I don’t follow sports, so I’m unconcerned about the antics of people who, frankly, are simply over-paid entertainers.
Speaking of “entertainers”, I couldn’t care less about who they are, what they wear, who they’re canoodling with, why they ended up in jail, or whatever shoddy movie, TV show, or song they’re currently flogging. The Kardashians are an invention and I find any news about them an intellectual offence–the less I know about any of them, the better.
Anything about “science” is, again, “entertainment”, if not outright balderdash. (Climate change, anyone?) I get better information from any number of journals and Internet news sites.
Until the recent elections in Alberta and, federally, in Canada, I paid little heed to politics. Much of what politicians have said in the past was empty blather, designed to make themselves look good and make their opponents look incompetent and stupid. Now, of course, with Commissar Red Rachel and Prime Minister Smoke and Mirrors, it’s become interesting, but my main sources of information certainly won’t be newspapers, most of whom are biased in their coverage.
With that in mind, why on earth should I pay good money for this rubbish?
Kate the Soapbox article states the same thing you have been saying for years. What it leaves out is it’s not only newsprint but applies as well to TV media outlets. If it were not for tax payer subsidies the Corpse would have been dead years ago as well. Not fast enough is right on the mark IMO.
And yet the lefties out there still cling to their “news” as unbiased and the unvarnished truth. Commenters rail against dissenting voices or claim to want them run out of town. With the Lieberals back in power I can see a bailout coming their way.
And some of the news that is reported is unimportant and worthless. For the last several days here in Calgary, every news report on QR77 radio has contained a story that an otter at the Calgary Zoo died, apparently from misguided efforts by staff to enrich the otters’ lives by putting a pair of pants in their enclosure and the otter dragged the pants into the water, got entangled in them, and drowned. This has led to news media dredging up every case of animal deaths at the zoo over the last several years. Come on!! Does this count as newsworthy?
There is a delicious irony building in the media world. For years there’s been a condescending prattling from “professional journalists” about the illegitimacy of “citizen-journalists” and whether or not they should share similar entitlements to the “pros”. The recent furor over the Notley petting zoo showed that some at least have seen the light – that they too, sooner than later, will become “citizen-journalists”, as their righteous employers begin to sacrifice them in droves to the corporate bottom line.
On a slightly different topic, the CBC continues to engage in what (this is a new term to me) is called shadowbanning (apparently well known with Twitter and similar liberal owned or managed social media: http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2016/02/16/exclusive-twitter-shadowbanning-is-real-say-inside-sources/). Basically, they blacklist certain posters to their supposedly free for all public comment section and hold up their comments till the story is over and everyone has moved on. It would interesting if someone could get them to fess up. It might even make the call (see the Andrew Coyne column today for the latest) to defund the CBC more popular.

May I add by the way that THIS SITE right here, Small Dead Animals, is responsible for a fair bit of the slope in that Bloomberg graph. If the newsies are circling the bowl, it’s because you pulled the handle.
There’s a number of different banning types Internet fora have been using for years to dissuade trolls or disruptive people that it might be good to start asking more mainstream sites about.
Shadowbanning and hellbanning are the same thing: a banned poster can see his own posts and reply to other posters, but no one else sees their posts. The theory is that deprived of responses, the troll will eventually go away.
There’s also Sartre-banning[1] where banned users’ posts are visible to other banned users, but not the site at large. The idea is that the trolls deserve each other.
These are all ridiculously easy to detect simply by creating a backup sockpuppet account or two and using them to check what’s shown publicly.

There are very few in Canada’s media.
These sycophants are members of the Guild.

No honest reporter would be a member of the Canadian Media Guild and claim to be objective.
Yet none of these “professionals” issued a disclaimer before inflicting us with their opinion pieces shilling for the Very Vacant new face on the old lying liberals.

The novelty, actually asking professional protesters to explain their POV and financing.
Actually counting the chins and lies of a fat woman acting out a “hunger strike”.
Actually reporting, all of the story…what a concept.

Suffer,you arrogant bastards! The media has been SO condescending to us peasants for SO long, many of us have simply tuned them out. I cancelled my last newspaper subscription about 12 years ago. I was called by the Editor to ask the musical question,”why”.
The reason was the paper refused to print comments from anyone who was not toeing the liberal line,on any subject. I mentioned the tone of the columnists, the talking down to us lesser beings,but he replied they were better informed.
Propagandized, not informed,I replied and we parted our ways.
Trudeau will undoubtedly bail out some of the more rabid Liberal media, the Party couldn’t exist without the Toronto Star shilling for them. Would love to see Liberal ass kissers like Michael Harris and Lawrence Martin unemployed,though, not to mention the insane ladies of journalism, Malick,O’malley,etc.
They are simply the Architects of their own demise. They were taught in Journalism “school” that they can “change” the world by TELLING people what to believe. They were taught that a leftist nirvana could be constructed on the foundation of their every word … whether it were actually factual or not. They were taught that “the common people” were simpletons who would be easily led. They were taught to look upon the people with disdain and dismissal. They were NEVER taught that they would reap what they sowed … the Death and destruction of their own industry.

I tuned out to the visual media news other than Fox and the now defunct Sun decades ago when I realized they were nothing but shills for the Liberals, for anything progressive and when they touted deviants. I have never purchased a Toronto Star. I did read the globe on occasion but quite for the above listed reasons. I did subscribe to the Star Phoenix but did not renew a number of years ago due to the same reasons listed above. Even Les McPherson’s opinions were not enough to cancel out the editors liberal progressive crap.
I do have a subscription to the National Post e-version, but it is on shaky ground after most of their front section writers shilled for the Liberals and Shiny Pony during the election campaign last fall. Only the comments and the Financial Post keep me there. Post Media must have told the Post to move left.

*every time*, not an exception or exaggeration, *every time* I had personal knowledge of a news story in the local bird cage liner, they ALWAYS got it wrong, some inaccuracy or misquote or missed the salient aspect. every time. my mistrust of printed media therefore goes way back.
also, it has been roughly 5 years since I bought an advertisement in said medium because the cost was so out of line. apparently their ad people never heard of a thing called kijiji that acted as direct competition and vastly superior and free !!!

I also cancelled my StarPhoenix subscription years ago. Other than columns by McPherson (the guy has an amazing sense of humour and a refreshing disregard for political correctness) and John Gormley, the newspaper was, for lack of a better word, crap. The columns by certified idiot Murray Mandryk particularly rubbed me the wrong way.
When I lived there nearly 35 years ago, we used to call that rag the “Star Phoney” or the “Star Kleenex”. It sounds like it didn’t change much since then.
On the other hand, here in Edmonton, there’s a reason why the Journal was called the Urinal…..

Yes, but to my mind the most alarming trend is not necessarily that people do all of the above.
It is the inflated value that they place on their own reasoning skills and moral judgements and their self-confessed superior knowledge of what constitutes a proper attitude on any given issue of the day.
The nouveau hoi polloi have never been more sure of themselves and never with less reason.
