    cousin marriages. Provinces, such as Saskatchewan
    don’t prohibit marriages between first cousins.
    All provinces should do that and cousin marriage
    should be a disqualification for immigrant/refugee
    status, also.
    Failure to do so is not only irresponsible but inhumane
    as well.

  4. Re Ezra Levant and the Alberta NDP.
    I’ve followed this story quite closely. There is no doubt that Notley and her government failed by blocking ”The Rebel Media” from the legislature and other events. And that problem has been temporarily resolved.
    I do however believe that journalists, when covering parliament, legislature or local government, should adhere to a higher set of standards than what we’ve seen in the last few years, standards that have slowly eroded away. Shoving a microphone or a camera in someone’s face and asking questions (to an NDP premier) such as ”why are you looking at this problem at a leftist point of view” is not journalism. Like hellooooo, they’re socialists, of course they follow the yellow brick road. And perhaps that’s why Knotley is at 33% pop while Selinger is at 19%. (Karma is taking over.) I would however want to know the in-depth story as to why that is happening.
    I think journalists, bloggers and town criers need to take a hard look at where this is leading us. Into oblivion, and into an abyss where the real story is rarely told. For example, why will the Liberals be giving billions to Bombardier while they scrap our pipeline projects here in the west?? That’s the story I’d like to see!

  8. Yesterday, Bell Media decimated the CFRA we have known and loved, with a bunch of layoffs. According to the Ottawa Citizen, gone are Mark Sutcliffe, John Counsell, Nick Vandergragt, and Ron Corbett. This after mainstays Steve Madely and Lowell Green retired. A CTV-owned radio station, it is now left with newly hired Evan Solomon with a 4 hour afternoon program and Rob Snow with same in the morning. Sutcliffe and a CTV personality had hosted the early morning show. Always regarded as a predominantly right-leaning station in Ottawa, Snow is now left as the token conservative.
    Bell Media/CTV had replaced CFRA news with CTV staffers and have slowly brought in other CTV news programs. Program repeats round out the schedules particularly on the week-ends.
    Update- This morning, Evan Solomon fills in for the turfed regular host and states that there will be an announcement at 8:10 am on who the new early morning host will be.
    IMO, CFRA is in effect dead. It should be renamed CTV Ottawa Radio. No more shilling from this listener. Curse them!

  10. Speaking of media, Bell is busy clearing out Ottawa’s CFRA talk radio of all long time employees in a here today gone, no warning fashion. Mark Sutcliffe got the boot after finishing his morning show yesterday, his replacement will be announced today. It’s going to lose listeners big time. Perhaps we get a clue to where they intend to take the station when they hired Evan Solomon who was fired from CBC TV.

    When I lived in the UK, a dusting of snow shut down London and southern England because the infrastructure couldn’t cope with it.
    Only once you get up into The Highlands did you encounter a properly-equipped snow-clearing regime Canadians would recognize. That’s because they have to deal with snowfalls far more routinely than the rest of the island of Britain.
    People who go climbing up there in winter are simply tempting fate.

  15. Rob Snow took over Lowell Green’s Show with Green as a 15 minute call-in chat daily prior to the general audience calls. These cuts take place as the retired Green is away and still making his calls. He was on holidays, before retirement, when Madely made his sudden retirement known. Green urged him to reconsider. Pattern here?
    Solomon is an effective interviewer (he has certainly shook up our staid City Hall with his probing questioning on all manner of discussion). If it sounds like I’m countering my own arguments, I’m not. It has become a ratings war. CTV scored a coup by getting CBC’s former mainstay Solomon and now they will go after the CBC’s local AM audience. Is that what the traditional CFRA audience wants? No! Generally of a mature nature, CFRA regular listeners are loyal and true-blue. CTV is going after a younger audience and generally more middle of the road in thought.
    Rob Snow is a highly effective news researcher and presenter. Rightly so. Trust he won’t re-invent himself.

  24. Talk about diversionary tactics…Madam Wynne is now allowing Ontario residents to buy wine with their groceries. One proviso is the stores cannot sell any of the wines below ten bucks and something. Perhaps she thinks this will make it more convenient for people to buy and make them happy, forget the mess she’s making of the province.

    The people responsible for that should be in jail, they are criminals.
