A reminder to readers — I was aware of the deep problems with Canadian Standards Ass’n certifications long before Gordon Knight came along. So, a heads up to Conservative leadership donors: prepare to be disappointed.
I know I am.

So Jason Kenney didn’t feel like addressing the CSA problem eh? This is just another reason to avoid his leadership ambitions like the plague. The guy is poison to the CPC.
Disappointed does not even begin to adress the way this makes me feel. I guess I have been naive about the kind of politician Jason Kenny is.
I honestly thought that the minister in question would have been the very progressive James Moore.
I have followed the CSA issue here on SDA. It would appear that it is a horribly corrupt institution.
Any conservative dedicated to good government should be chomping at the bit to take on this file.
Kenny was actually my one hope that the Conservative party would not be commandeered by progressives now that Harper is gone.
Like I said, I guess I have been naive.
Liberal, Tory,
Same ol’ story.
well hello.
*guess why Stephen Harper LOST the election. this kind of ministerial abuse and neglect is one of those ‘cumulative effect’ things.
feel free to fill in the rest of the story.
revolutions (and changes of elected parties) are the result of people feeling bereft of an alternative, regardless how unattractive any may be. its the *hope* that a change in regime *might* yield an administration that LISTENS instead of going straight for the perks. THAT explains the lieberal victory. ie, oh look, fresh blood. lets try them out. cant get anywhere with this bunch. whathavewegottolose?
you want the CPC back in government? NEVER forget this lesson. you do NOT have to agree, its not mathematically possible to agree with everyone everything, but for gawds sake at least LISTEN.
or face the consequences. and dont worry, the next 3 1/2 years will whiz past, lots of chances for the lieberals to also ignore this fundamental tenet and pay the same price.
As an American, you have my condolences. We are facing the same battles here in the US. Our GOP /Republican Party is currently in a battle with its base voters. We elected them to oppose the policies of the current administration and they have refused to. They have continued to pass bloated budgets, and refused to implement any of their campaign promises; such as defunding illegal immigration policies or opposing Obamacare.
As a consequence, the two most popular GOP candidates are hated by the GOP establishment. We already hear that if it is Cruz or Trump, that some “loyal” GOP leaders and insiders will vote Clinton instead. So much for listening to their constituents.
Thanks Kate,
Have to bookmark this article and make sure it gets brought up at the CPC Leadership convention/nomination.
The winnowing fork must be used to vet these leadership hopefuls. The hard questions require that hard answers would be expected, but the progressive elements are seeping into the Blue Machine and moving the whole thing more to the left each day.
A sad day for Liberty in this nation.
Psalm 146 comes to mind… “Put not your trust in princes.”
It’s harder to put into practice than it sounds when we’re lorded over by autocrats and bureaucrats.
Talking about regulators brings to mind that Mary Walsh is the new face of Bell.
Heh.
Apparently Bell cares not that at least 30 % of Canadians believe she has all the credibilty of a Lieberal -loving repugnant CBC dolt.
If beastly were a colour she would be shocking pink.
This just confirms my resolve to not patronize Bell in any way.
As for Kenny, I also had high hopes for him, but this revelation lowers my esteem for him considerably and confirms my resolve not to support any progressive conservatives for the leadership. Is Maxim Bernier an outsider? Even at my age age I might have to sit out the next election and hope some of my kids can help straighten the mess.
Canada needs a Trump or Cruz, but what with the current Canadian gullible mentality I suspect a Bernie Sanders has more of a chance.
Ken,I feel the same way you do, thought Kenney was one of the bright lights, naive of me I guess.
We had better brace ourselves for rule by Trudeau for at least the next two terms,if not longer. The media is absolutely in love with him,and the pollsters are, too. Ever notice at National Newswatch there is an article almost daily saying that the latest poll shows huge approval numbers for Trudeau?
We don’t have much choice in political Parties any more, just a political class that have figured out that THEY have it made,so best to NOT rock the boat.
In light of this article, the good old tip of the iceberg,it’s nauseating to read this morning that Transparency International,or whatever they call themselves, rate Canada ninth best out of 187 Countries for corruption in government and the civil service. Number one? Denmark,of course, followed by the other Scandinavian Countries,Germany, New Zealand, etc., all the Countries that the Left holds so dear for their socialism.
I was always stunned that the Cons did not take up this issue. The Cons had free reign to clean the mess up.
Very very disappointing.
The writer of the article thinks because something is important. Therefore it must outweigh other things that are important, somewhat, important, more important and of major importance.
Kenny handled a very full portfolio. Major issues, including political questions. This issue involves specialized regulatory law and technical issues.
The Minister would have had to been able to have a Junior Minister, assisting the Minister, one very qualified, to sort this out. And the Minister and cabinet and the PMO agree to take this on, and allocate budgeting for it.
If you get stymied by an Assist. or two as described, this happens. It is part of their job. They might have screwed up, or the Minister knew he could not take this on without dropping other major commitments.
When that is the case, you need to organize presentations, behind the scenes with gov’t. M.P.s/Senators smart enough to understand it. Ones able to argue in caucus
for a way for it to be handled.
Government, at this point, is huge, the political oversight is underfunded and under-resourced. For example every M.P. should have a budget of at least 2 more assistants to do research and deal with issues being able to challenge the bureaucracy. Each Senator should have 4-6 research assistants and a regional office in the area they represent and tour it.
In the U.S. both Senators and Congress members have significant budgets and staff and thus the power to challenge the bureaucracy. Canadian politicians are hindered from representing the citizens purposefully to keep control in the P.M.O. and also not to be able to challenge more than a few things in the bureaucracy.
There is a long list of things the Conservatives didn’t get done as a minority gov’t. and also, during the few years of majority government.
Getting on the priority list takes more organization than just presenting a good case of justification.
The other main method is public exposure via a media investigation.
If the method you described had worked, I’d have been surprised.
Usually, you have to present a case from problem to viable solution w/political benefits, before it gets considered. The size or heft of your lobby group is important, too.
Don’t give up. Over the last few decades way too much power has accumulated in
the bureaucracy and in Ottawa and citizen and political oversight is lacking.
Kleptocracy rules.
The standard operating methods of corrupt placeholders.
That the conservatives saw this, corrupt CSA, as a hot potato and did not prosecute the break and enter gang in High River, left me certain of the state of governance in Canada.
It is broken and unfixable with the top down structure.
Fools and bandits do not recognize the destruction they wreak.
That government does not recognize property rights and the right to self defence in your own home, tells me government has lost its way.
When extortion is “business as normal” for bureaucrats, government is useless to all.
What is this “public good” of which the kleptocracy speaks?
Not the good of the productive taxpayer.
But the good of the parasitic class.
Parasites do not voluntarily stop their feasting.
There is no competence in our government.
Bill C68 demonstrated that beautifully.
Environment Canada writes the “law” however they want, at the discretion of junior officers, if charged with causing a toxic spill you have no defence.Total Kangaroo court.
Human Rights Star Chambers, to “protect ” your human rights you are stripped of your legal rights.Truth is NOT a defence.
Governments cost has exceeded any benefit they used to provide.
No longer are they the instrument to protect civilization, they now seek to destroy all the foundations of civil society.
If it cannot be reformed, then it destructs.
Small wonder Steven Harper looked so defeated, defeated by the fools and bandits of the Conservative Party of Canada.
The West Wants Out.
They didnt do many things that needed to be done. Repealing c68 and defunding the cbc are just 2 that come to mind.
I wonder if it’ll ever happen that more people wake up to the fact that the so-called “left wing” and “right wing” are both sides of the same coin. Get your political values straight in your head and then roast any politician that goes against them. Don’t sit there like a partisan and make up excuses for your guy but only roast the other guy when he does the same thing your guy did. It’s the politicians vs the people, people.
The West Wants Out
The East wants out too.
Problem is, there’s no “out”. Please see current Alberta govt for elucidation.
