Alberta’s New Carbon Tax: When giving seminars on Tax and/or Profits, I like to ask the question. What is a word for a Company that does not pass all its expenses, including its taxes on to its customers? The answer of course is bankrupt.

For raising taxes, the marriage of the left and the enviro-fascists is one made in revenue heaven. Can’t wait for Trudeau to figure this out and raise $100 billion a year on it.
Yeah
Thatcher was the prophet that fortold the end result of these ventures into the wealth redistribution religion.
“The problem with socialism is that it eventually runs out of other people’s money”
Carbon Tax: climate change mitigation for Dummies
The amount of government of Alberta funded radio and television propaganda, that coincidentally drove the media crazy, when the conservatives used govt. money on advertising, has nary a peep from the littlest urnalist Braid, or any other leftie urnalists in Alberta on this or any other NDPee taxpayer money wasting, of millions on scary climate change ads, why, wheree are all the tough urnalists now? Our dear leader Rach is soon to be scoring a hole in one with every golf shot, the breathless media Herald QR types will be there to celebrate the dear leaders donning of her “Climate Shield” and the obligatory Rach warrior princess sword to slash her way to a new tax and save the world, remember the cape Rach.
As the prophet George Harrison said:
1) Be thankful I don’t take it all.
2) If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat.
3) And you’re working for no one but me . . .
You are certainly correct about Braid…..he is nothing more than an NDP mouthpiece and apologist. Time to dump the Calgary Herald, methinks.
Given enough time Notely will turn Alberta into a have-not province. Then where will all the equalization money come from?
Exactly! I was just listening to that song recently. Try listening to Moonshadow for the push back to criticism, for what lurks beneath:
And if I ever lost my hands
Lose my plough, lose my land
Oh, if I ever lose my hands- Oh, if…
I wont have to work no more
….
And if I ever lose my mouth
All my teeth, north and south
Yes, if I ever lose my mouth- Oh if…
I won’t have to talk (no more)…
(No I don’t care what the artistes think it means)
AB is the incubator for grassroots action on discontent with and distrust of statist government. How can anyone explain driving down an economy in a cyclical downturn with higher taxes then going after farmers & ranchers – is good government? We have four years to get back to limited, therefore responsible government. We can’t endure the statist punishment like the US with their giant economy, but even they are faltering, ramping up borrowing at precisely the wrong time.
Adding $100billion to our federal debt is what awaits us in the next federal election. Pretending to be laissez-faire Grits won’t cut it. We need bold policies that bypass the Laurentian cabal and its kept mediocracy to capture what exists of the public’s political interest, to feed into inevitable mistrust. Trudeau did it with a meme, surely Conservatives can do it with reality. Luckily we all have plenty of time to consider how to come out swinging next time, no doubt there will be plenty of material given the reality of upcoming statist Wynne like disasters (the new national standard for political depravity) from AB, the feds and the aforementioned accomplished incompetents.
First Principle: Whatever the mediocracy says they think we should do, don’t do or do the opposite. Never forget they are not our friends and since they apparently don’t teach integrity and ethics at journalism school anymore, be careful what you say and how you phrase it.
You would think that this (i.e. businesses passing on costs to consumers) would be obvious to people but, sadly, it isn’t even obvious to the economists who “score” these tax increases and how much they will “cost” a family.
The other obvious thing happening right now is that every company in Canada is moving revenue in 2015 to avoid higher taxes next year. This will give governments a 2015 revenue bump (that they won’t acknowledge) and will cause all the revenue projections for 2016 to be too high, which will then mean, what else but higher taxes!
Top men running things. Top. Men.
Looking at all these lefty rules and tax programs, I see an enormous herd of new government (union) “forever” jobs also paid for by Alberta taxpayers. It reminds me of a line from that old song “Ghost Riders in the Sky” …..”when all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw running through a ragged sky and up a windy draw”.
There will be a large group of bureaucrats to keep sucking the money into the government accounts.
Farmers and ranchers will be paying into Workers’Compensation.
Oil sands producers and conventional oil and gas producers will be paying a “carbon tax” on the “carbon” they produce.
The retail fuel businesses will be collecting the pump tax from us and remitting it to the government.
Natural gas retailers will be doing the same in relation to home heating taxes.
Another large government group will be in charge of managing rebates to lower-income folks who will have to claim back their taxes at the end of the year.
Yet another large group of accountants and auditors will be required to audit all programs make sure no money is either under-collected or over refunded.
We are only part way through year 1 of 4 years of economic hell with no breaks in sight.
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!
That “enormous herd of new government (union) “forever” jobs” is the Middle Class the politicians yammer on about growing. When you have a guaranteed job for life and a good pension you are upper middle class.
I work in the private sector, my next door neighbour has a government job. I watch in awe on weekend mornings when she goes out, jumps in her car, and comes back in a few minutes with a cup of Starbucks…

So that last budget with the big deficit where they made all those promises. Just ignore it. Didn’t really mean it. Please restore our credit rating to AAA.
After the BC experience with the DipComs, the arrogance and incompetence of the NDP statists come as no surprise. They are just doing it from the ideological playbook, with little to no deep analysis of the pros and cons of their socialist “stragedies”.
What they have studied is the Trudope strategy of underestimating/lying about the effect of their taxation, thinking that they have the charm.
I hope that all you Albertans here, shout down those despicable commies anytime you might see one of them in Edmonchuk, and how you’re going to kick their asses back to the closet room of the union hall, forever, in the next election.
As we saw in the 90s, the Dips have NO CONCEPT of the damage their regressive policies cause.
Reagan was right about the rising tide, it DOES lift all boats. Regressive socialist policies lower all boats, and hurts the poor the most, another concept they just don’t understand, and refuse to analyze.
They are brain dead ideologues
Never was about Climate Change/ Global Warming – It’s always about excuses to tax more out of the hands of the working classes.
Socialists do it better than anyone else.
Kleptocracy.
You are living it.
That a business must pass on its costs to survive, is considered nonsense by our intellectual superiors.
Parasites must unite, for maximum safe theft.
Meanwhile Ottawa posts a budget deficit of $941 million for October. Go socialism!

One thing politicians of all stripes eventually come to understand is a bare cupboard.
Once the international financiers sit them down and speak slowly and clearly to them – they will get it.
That’s what happened with the tall forehead Bob Rae. He had the riot act read to him. The money boys explained things to him in terms even he could comprehend. He then put on his ‘fiscal responsibility ‘ hat. He asked his friends in the labor movement to help him with fiscal restraint. He brought in ‘rae days’ and attempted a few other roll backs. The union boys threw him under the bus and he was soundly defeated seking relection . He was then ostracized by the NDP and eventually left the party.
with the Carbon Tax under the New Dictator Party (NDP), they might just as well call it a Sales Tax … since it appears that the collected taxes are going into General Revenues and nothing to do with fighting “carbon” emissions …. which is plant food.
I had to laugh – it was either that, or throw up in my mouth – when Joe Ceci, Alberta’s Finance Minister opined that the ratings cut from AAA to AA+ wouldn’t affect Alberta’s ability to borrow. Just a small example of how far out of their depth tese clowns are. I’m looking forward to the next rating cut (really) and the one after that. I think it will only take a dose of reality for those still enamored with the socialist horde to come out of their swoon. How to destroy an economy in one easy lesson.
There was an analyst on the radio this morning that mentioned that Ontario’s credit rating has been downgraded 5 times but Ontario can still borrow money at lower rates than Alberta. That tells you something about what they think of the NDPs’ budget plans.
Rachel is succeeding at making Alberta the “embarrassing cousin that no one wants to talk about.”
Alberta is becoming the new Sweden for socialists.
$4000 a year — that’s around $80 a week — that’s a big chunk of a family’s weekly groceries going to appease the environmentalists. Families will go hungry. Think of the children!
