When it happens in a Democratic run state, that means that it’s not pollution;
While the world was hammering out a historic agreement to curb carbon emissions–urged along by California, no less–the state was dealing with an embarrassing belch of its own. Methane, a greenhouse gas 70 times more potent than carbon dioxide, has been leaking out of a natural gas storage site in southern California for nearly two months, and a fix won’t arrive until spring.
The site is leaking up to 145,000 pounds per hour, according to the California Air Resources Board. In just the first month, that’s added up to 80,000 tons, or about a quarter of the state’s ordinary methane emissions over the same period. The Federal Aviation Administration recently banned low-flying planes from flying over the site, since engines plus combustible gas equals kaboom.
Or news.

Methane has even less effect than Carbon Dioxide:

Maybe they can dump it in the St Lawrence?
70 tones per *hour* ???
is there any way to perhaps at least burn it off?
whut a bunch of doofuses. the financial loss alone . . . .
but then again, when did THAT ever factor in?
Reminds me of this joke:
A Torontonian goes into a bar in Louisiana where there is a robot bartender. The robot says, “What will you have?
The guy replies, “Whiskey.”
The robot brings back his drink and asks, “What’s your IQ?”
The guy say, “168.”
The robot continues to talk about physics, space exploration, and medical technology.
After the guy leaves and the more he thinks about it, the more curious he gets, so he decides to go back.
The robot asks, “What’s your drink?”
The guy answers, “Whiskey.”
The robot returns with his drink and asks, “What’s your IQ?”
The man replies, “100.”
The robot talks about Nascar, Budweiser, and the Maple Leafs.
The man finishes his drink, leaves, but is so interested in his “experiment” that he decides to try again.
He enters the bar and, as usual, the robot asks him what he want to drink.
The man replies, “Whiskey.”
The robot brings the drink and asks, “What’s your IQ?”
The man answers, “50.”
The robot leans in real close and asks,
“So . . . . . . . . .are . . . . . . . . .you people . . . . . . . . .still happy . . . . . . . . . . .with Kathleen Wynne?”
Also never mentioned is the fact that China has long running, out of control coal seam fires. They have been burning for decades and even at the lowest estimate of coal being uselessly burned, put out more CO2 than the entire CO2 output of Canada. There are estimates from 20 to 200 million tonnes of coal burning away happily. And yet the idiots in the Notley government want to shut down the 10 coal fired power plants in Alberta. The stupidity is breathtaking.
“Methane, a greenhouse gas 70 times more potent than carbon dioxide, has been leaking out of a natural gas storage site in southern California for nearly two months, and a fix won’t arrive until spring.”
Even so, there hasn’t been one iota of any difference upon the earth.
The earth is not as fragile as the fear-mongers would have you believe.
At equal concentration, methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas. Willis Eschenbach’s illustration measures the effect of methane vs CO2 from their current atmospheric concentrations of ~1.8 ppmv vs ~400 ppmv. So if his point is we don’t have to worry about it because it’s concentration level is already low and even with multiple doublings will continue to remain low, then he is somewhat correct. However, in a straight up, gas-to-gas comparison at equal concentration methane has a much greater greenhouse effect.
Wonder where a monument to now deceased Maurice Strong will be erected?
Won’t methane eventually oxidize into mostly CO2 and H2O?
Well, the ambulance chasers are already on the case:

Just think of the number of farts per day, they must be oxidized, or else every breath would
smell like a fart.
Yeah, the cows must be steamed about this. They’ve been singled out as the Public Enemy #1 and here it turns out these friggin humanoids are responsible for a big part of the problem.

“Wonder where a monument to now deceased Maurice Strong will be erected?”
On the front lawn of 24 Sussex.
Part of the $10-150 million reno that Junior is having done.
This is interesting.
Got detoured somehow a few days ago into reading a local California rag
that went on and on about the people affected by the stink tied to leaking
gas “at a well”. People had to be evacuated even if the stink was harmless.
It was just material “put into pipelines” to make leaks easier to detect.
Seems to be an account of the same incident minus the most important points
revealed here.
Quick, someone give Al Gore a billion dollars and he’ll make it go away!
So what? Methane breaks down in the atmosphere thanks to UV radiation, singleton Oxygen atoms (separated when UV strikes two O2 molecules, causing one O3 or ozone molecule to form, leaving one Oxygen atom) and water molecules. The estimate is that a methane molecule will last eight years in the atmosphere before breaking down. The resultant CO2 and H20 nourishes plants that then die and decompose creating methane and the cycle of (plant)life starts anew.
And in other news today. When the facts don’t fit the theory, then by all means change the theory.

This is going to make more of my liberal ‘friends’ heads pop. Although I’ve noticed in the past few weeks some of them are starting to shake themselves out of the stupor that has infected them for the last few decades, especially the latest move by Justbeen Turdeau to rescind the FN Accountability Act, and the haste to import, as I noticed on another site, the so-called ‘gimmiegrants’.{I’m going to have to adopt that one, ‘gimmiegrants, has a nice ring to it.}
anyone got a match?
Not sure where the monument might go but where was he when he pegged out? How long was he gone before his death was revealed?
Has that info ever been divulged?
Something smells surrounding MO Strongs death.
I’d be willing to donate a spot, right behind the barn in the old hog manure pile spot.
When you read stuff like this and then read the Newgrange article above by WUWT then your realize the total imbeciles that we often elect to our governments.
And some bunch of narrow minded granola munchers/tree huggers are trying to blame the livestock industry for all the mathaine and Hot Air gas and still with the State of California beltches its own and remember California has Hollywood and Disneyland
How much of just this gas is belched out of some volcano, on a regular basis, like Sakurajima Japan? Sakurajima, Etna, those Kamchatka volcanoes, a bunch of Indonesian volcanoes, some more in Mexico & else where around The Ring of Fire, Asia, Europe, South America, belch out MEGA TONNES ANNUALLY of CH4, CO, CO2, SO2, H2HSO4, HCl, H2O, N20 & plenty of DUST (hack, cough, choke), never mind the rest of the myriad lava, pyroclastic flows, mud flows, ash & assorted mayhem. There are 550 active, surface volcanoes worldwide.
Then there are the ones we don’t see: under the oceans. There are an estimated 3 million of those (active or not) and people wonder why some frozen oceans are warmer than they should be….like the Arctic Ocean. There is a spreading plate right under the Arctic Ocean (go ahead, look it up) that mimics what goes on at surface in Iceland. You know – hot springs, black smokers, actual fissure eruptions. Really boring stuff, with lots of photos of spewing white stuff (steam pollution).
Geology is a fascinating, wide ranging subject and allows some of us the insight to put the boots to what AL Gore et al spew. Do your local MP/MLA a favor, send them a copy of General Geology to read this Christmas, or more specific one on Plate Tectonics with lots of volcanoes & statistics on what these critters spew on an annual basis. Then tell them to get a friggin’ life on Climate Change/Glowbull Warming.
Stick their damned carbon taxes up their antrim.
