  7. It’s a a challenge to duplicate the incoherence of your astoundingly worthless fairy-tale.
    And Knight, agreeable there are government conspiracies, but then there are THESE government conspiracies. The twin towers episode presents such a wide scope of conjecture, it’s become a favourite chatter subject for the anti-everything-US types out there. This has an irresistible allure for the Blame Crash crowd who have found and utilized the equivalence to Global Warming scientists, now in Architecture. The question remains for me, being that this particular conspiracy is of such a scale, would it not necessitate the involvement of a significant number of operatives? Unimaginable that anyone would ever contemplate keeping the lid on that one; and if you believe in the theory, been completely successful in doing so. The other essential ingredient needed to advance the Truther theory, is the motive. I’ve been told it was to boost profits for the US Military Industrial Complex,… stealing oil resources in Iraq etc etc. You have to take such a grand leap of faith, accepting all its constituent parts, to ever begin to believe this particular conspiracy theory. It makes for great fiction or daydreaming otherwise. Next to televisions that talk to you, it’s also a popular theme for the mentally ill.

    Granted his example was great to show how steel will bend, you have to consider that was just ONE rod. This would have to happen to X number of ‘rods’ at the same time on the same floor.
    I am just saying the math doesn’t work here.
    A free fall of 110 stories? Where is resistance, tilt (Tower 2 was hit in the corner), ejecta like desks, monitors, printers, copper pipes and sewer pipes, and finally last but not least – where are the toilets and sinks?
    But I digress, how did the buildings fall into their own footprint in freefall, not all the rods were weakened all the way down.

  11. This guy’s experiment is bogus – an extreme contrivance.
    The structural steel was embedded in structural concrete which would preclude its exposure to open flame. Granted, some of the concrete may have been destroyed by the impact, exposing some steel to flame. But not all of it. As an inveterate skeptic and contrarian I’m not convinced by the official story, particularly by the lack of explanation for the collapse of building 7. Further the vertical free-fall of all three structures is implausible.
    A veritable operatic deus ex machina.

    Agreed, but herein lays the problem of picking one’s own side in the left/ right paradigm of “my guy” in the government is the good guy.
    I haven’t seen any Western government regardless of political leaning take care of its nation’s sovereignty, security, or economic wellbeing through rational methods in decades. With the exception of Harper on the Canadian economy of course.
    I’m not a “911 conspiracist” per say, I don’t personally believe that George Bush sent in secret Agents to detonate the twin towers, or wanted to. What is apparent though, is that allot of people scrambled to cover up allot of evidence and investigative efforts after the fact. So why was that?
    It seems to me that if you really wanted to cover something up in todays technological world, you get allot of nuts to create blindingly obvious falsities, then you get everyone else to ridicule them into silence so that they don’t ask “What, when, where or why”?
    The first thing they said about the Hillary Benghazi scandal was “oh oh here comes the 911 truther crowd”.
    Otherwise, without getting side-blown into a big debate of unprovable evidence as it was carted away the minute it cooled enough to handle; we can and should focus on the world created after 911 and how it now impacts our own lives.
    Today the borders are STILL Wide Open, there are more active “Muslim extremists” operating throughout the world, many living comfortably in Sanctuary Countries throughout the west. Most of our police forces are now militarized, and most of our governments have Acts or Laws to assure that most of us have NO RIGHT to privacy or personal security.
    RED or BLUE it’s the same Pepsi/ Coke policies against western citizens across the globe.

  14. Actually having observed the mass hysteria of CAGW in action, I have no difficulty entertaining that possibility, “they’re all nuts”.
    Or conversely the 5 basic laws of human stupidity.
    I scrolled through some of the site.. do any offer up an engineering report to support their opinions quoted?
    Funny how so many seek the complicated answer, when observed event and properties of materials involved coincide.
    Fact 1; It happened.
    Fact 2 747s were filmed impacting those towers.
    F3 expansion shatters concrete.
    F4 Steel loses its strength when heated.
    So on and so forth, now really I do not care, the towers are down.
    My personal knowledge of the way things work, fits what the TV cameras captured.
    Simplest explanation, same as the blacksmith.
    Any commenter here can verify the blacksmiths observations.Go play with some fire.Add fuel. Add air.

  18. Knight – I agree with you, that in a nutshell, the power seekers of recent memory have cluttered the political landscape with their self-serving wrongheadedness. That said, I can’t say my intent isn’t to persuade, in response to one of your points concerning 9/11:

    In an event as colossal as this one, which exposed a myriad of frailties in the Intelligence sphere, there was no avoiding an eruption of hysterical damage control and coverup. 9/11 was a wakeup call of epic proportion, and to doubt the sh*t-hit-the-fan characterization of it would be mindless I think. In my humble opinion though, and you seem to be in agreement, the aftermath produced a boatload of spin and subterfuge, that need not take the form of what some in the Truthers’ camp have tried to advance. The Banghazi event wasn’t cluttered with anywhere near the complexities as that of 9/11. In spite of it, Truthers like to use Benghazi to scuttle 9/11 skepticism by putting all conspiracy theories on equal footing. To illustrate this, revisit Crash’s original post on this topic. Crash used a diversion, to defend his skepticism of the official 9/11 investigative findings, paralleling it to SDA’s prevailing skepticism about AGW. I would not discount the more obvious like-mindedness between the AGW scientific protagonists and that of the engineering/architectural Truthers. There is no rule that states one cannot be skeptical of the skeptic.

    Again I suppose my only point to this thread is that so called “right wing conservatives” shouldn’t be shouting down EVERY topic that someone has labeled “left wing”, until the subject is analyzed rationally.
    Manipulation is strong with all of our modern governments regardless of political label they wave in our faces.

  20. It is painfully easy. Objects in your view which move side to side or up and down as you sit in your seat, are avoidable with a high probability. Objects stationary in your view are not, an exercise you can prove for yourself every time you get behind the wheel of an ordinary auto. Try it, it’s taught in flight school.

  21. To clarify? The pertinence of the melting point is because of the molten steel dripping from the structural steel in certain 9/11 video, not because hot things get weak and bend more than under normal circumstances right? (Help me out, I’m a simple guy?)

  22. Basic metallurgy
    Heating up a metal weakens the metal. This connects directly to the metals ability to bear a load. Long before it melts the metal will deform, dropping whatever load bearing upon it.
    How hard is this to understand?

  23. Four points to add:
    1) Anyone who toured the devastation of the Oakland hills fire, or Napa, or Lake County fires in CA has seen the complete destruction of steel, glass, and aluminum automobiles … Literally nothing left of the cars except 4 black smudges where the wheels used to be and a small lump of aluminum where the engine block was. Fire completely and totally consumed the cars. Gone. Nothing remaining, not the steel or aluminum. It is idiotic to argue that fire can’t get hot enough to wreak the devastation of the WTC.
    2) There was a LOT more burning in the WTC than the jet fuel. Wood furniture, flooring, paneling, books, file cabinets full of paper, drapes, carpet, etc. It is intellectually WEAK to argue about the absolute temperature of burning jet fuel, and its inability to consume the building.
    3) There have been multiple, thorough investigations into the cause of the collapse. Chief among the reasons, is the unique lightweight structural system used in the WTC design. As an Architect (and part time Structural engineer) I recognize how the lightweight steel trusses quickly collapsed. Everyone keeps talking about steel BEAMS … when in fact there were few steel beams used in the WTC structural system. The dominant structural component were lightweight, long-span steel trusses. The component parts of these trusses are extremely small in thickness … certainly no thicker than the 1/2 inch steel rod used in the blacksmith’s demonstration – probably more like 3/16″ or 1/4″. Further, if anyone knows HOW truss engineering works, they would know that damage to one single component of the truss destroys the entire truss. So fire softening just one end of the truss, causes the entire long span truss to collapse. These lightweight steel trusses directly support concrete floors. Sufficient weakening of the trusses caused a pancaking-type rapid collapse. I could also go-into the truss connection details … but that would take too long.
    4). EVERY steel frame building in the US has its structural components coated with a THICK layer of 3-Hour FIREPROOFING. 3-Hour meaning that is the tested time that it would take a fire to structurally-weaken the steel … offering occupants sufficient time to evacuate and/or be rescued. The floor trusses were not so coated. Rather, they were fire-protected by gypsum board applied to the bottom chords. These gypsum board ceilings were destroyed by the crashing airplanes, thus exposing the trusses directly to the fire. When I first saw the devastation of the buildings … I correctly predicted to those in my office that the buildings were going to collapse. And they did.
