  1. Wind power will never produce electricity in the scale that will be required for Europe.
Mind you, will Europe need much energy once there is no Europe?

  2. A Grade 5 student with a learning disability would know that there is no such a thing as a place where ”the wind blows all the time.” I’ve been going on summer holidays to Waterton Lakes–Glacier National Park area for decades. The windiest place near there is Cowley Ridge on No. 3 highway near the AB–BC border. They have a large wind farm operated by TransAlta; among other operators. It was the first in Canada since 1993. Yet in any 5-14 day period that I’ve been there, the turbines usually stop for at least 2-3 days. No problem because they have coal powered backup, up until the time that the NDP hoard decides to shut coal down.
I was born in SW Saskatchewan. In the 50’s, every second farm had a Jacob’s Wind Generator, among many other brands. They were used mostly to power 60 watt bulbs that provided lighting for homes, barns etc. All of them had battery backup, and even then, they required a gen-set for backup. I remember having to charge the batteries with the gas engine for days on end in Jan.–Feb. when the wind died down. One of our neighbours got so fed up of charging batteries, he just went out and bought a Lister diesel powered generator and ran the engine when he needed lights.
Wind farms look great, and it is something to watch on clear Alberta day. Is it practical?? Do the math. You’ll be disappointed! Take a look at this article from the Taber municipal district that is near Cowley Ridge.

Thanks for the link…had not seen the article even though I am quoted in it.☺
Our “energy group” in Lethbridge is making a presentation to 13 MDs and counties in January…all about wind.
Our group includes 2 retired college profs, an mechanical nuclear engineer and an electrical engineer, a veterinarian and me. The numbers for Rachel’s climate plan (trashing coal) are horrific…about $40 to $45 BILLION. And CO2 will barely be reduced. We are getting set up for a HUGE train wreck as effete wind makes inroads.

  4. BTW… Taber is 150km from Cowley Ridge. There are a lot of turbines in the Pincher Creek area..where Cowley is. Only 37 in the MD of Taber, to the east.
Our group is expecting backlash from municipal politicians in Pincher Creek. The MD and landowners there make a few million (??) from wind turbines. One MD down here makes $20k per turbine in taxes.
I liked the comment about having to build lines to carry wind back to YYC. The Shepard combined cycle gas plant is adjacent to the city and can produce more power than all of our wind farms…that cover an area the size of the Netherlands. Insane.
