Kids are imbued with ‘politics’ by the time you would start talking to your child about topics the socialist institutions you will have entrusted them to have got complete control of them?

Well be that as it may, I think his suggestion that parents not talk politics with kids under 16 is dumb as hell. Parents have to be aware of the fact that their kids are hearing plenty of politics in school from grade 1 on. If you don’t teach your kids about right and wrong, politics, religion etc. then you are leaving the job to the schools, the media and their peers. How wise is that?
Right. What worries me about the mindset of youth currently, are the prospects of voting being enabled via the Net. The pony wants it. If it’s made that easy, you can be assured that all the indoctrinated will vote (in the ususal low-information direction) when it becomes a click of the smartphone. Fraud will no doubt become much easier as well.

As Mark Steyn and others have noted, culture trumps politics. Cultural indoctrination begins almost right at birth. Wait until the child is sixteen and it’s too late.
Things are so much simpler when you’re 16 years old and solutions to problems seem obvious. My parents tolerated my environmental phase but made damn sure I got enough exposure to reality with lots of physical jobs. The latter experience showed me the world is a lot more complex place than I had thought and that living and working in a “natural” environment for weeks at a time makes one really appreciate human technology.
There’s a good argument to be made for dumping city kids into the wilderness for a few weeks to give them some reality experience. If Steve Jobs wouldn’t let his kids near a cell phone, iPad or computer till they turned 16 he must have been onto something. The virtual realities I lived in when younger were far less detailed than those available to the interconnected teenager of today. Guess we can count this as regression.

For those who have kids, be sure they watch “the lesson of the pencil” before they turn 12. They will have a much higher chance of growing up to become believers in a free market and a free society if you do.
I should add that, along with a strong emphasis on personal responsibility, generosity and compassion, from when we were quite young my parents often reminded me and my siblings of the Marxist hell that my ancestors had to flee from. Discussion of politics most certainly can start at an early age.
