Obama Rebuffed As Superpowers Refuse To Sign Arctic Climate Agreement: China’s reaction to the GLACIER conference also sends a worrisome signal about U.S.-China cooperation on climate change. In addition to refusing to sign the statement, China sent a relatively low-level representative. Former Chinese Ambassador to Norway Tang Guoqiang, billed as a “special representative” to China’s foreign minister, headed the delegation from Beijing; most other countries sent either minister-level or deputy-minister-level officials (Russia was another exception, sending only its ambassador to the United States to the event).

  1. Everyone is waiting for the US to de-industrialize first. Perhaps we should wait 1,000 years and see if there is anything to global warming. The weather doesn’t seem to be getting any warmer but apparently we are having record hot temperatures. It looks like we can handle it.

  2. I guess the saner countries will play along with the bullshit factor as long as there’s a profit to be made, but once it looks like it might cost money, they remind themselves that the only thing driving this farce is junk science and the UN.

  3. Why would the Chinese waste their time making important commitments to an outgoing US administration?
They’re keeping an eye out for Obama’s potential successor now.

  4. I expect that the CBC will be carrying a piece tomorrow describing how the whole conference was wrecked by the Harper government.

  5. Good! The grownups are speaking up at last.
Let’s hope Obama’s last climate fling in Paris is just as unsuccessful, and let’s hope to hell we have a government in Ottawa who won’t sell us out, as Mulcair and Trudeau have every intention of doing.
In the event of a coalition of Liberals and Dippers,I expect they’ll make Elizabeth May environment Minister and send her to Paris.
The thought of which inspires me,as they say,to “vote and vote often”.

  6. Syria’s ah ehm drought?
    1937 2.4 million
    2011 23.0 million
    2013 18.0 million
I wonder if over-population isn’t a bigger problem than some imaginary drought. When an agricultural population expand 10 times over 70 years, it really puts stress on production. Inventing a drought works better than admitting stupidity.

  7. Obviously, China is already a devout socialist country. They don’t need the scam of Global Warming to advance socialism, which is Global Warming’s sole raison d’etre.

  8. How strange. The referenced article HEADLINE says that Russia did not sign the “agreement” but this is not mentioned anywhere in the article. In fact, the article implies ALL members of the “council” signed……China not being a member of the council (no land bordering the arctic).
And then there is the fact is was not an “Agreement” but rather a joint “statement” which obligated no nation to do anything. Then there is this:
    http://arctic.ru/international/20150904/157499.html
which essentially says that Russia was all in on the statement.
What China does is important in today’s world but the linked article is just some anti-China nonsense.

  9. “preventing its politicization and ensuring the unconditional implementation of joint projects, including environmental projects, as well as the fulfillment of the obligations to finance them,” the ministry said.”
“Fulfillment of obligations to finance them” Russia has a sense of humor..Putin drops the bill on Obama for all the BS Science.
China was given a deal & now Russia wants the same… They will both walk in Paris leaving Obama waiting at the altar. Hope he doesn’t cry…No UN job for him
The EU is going to be busy feeding & housing all those visitors who use energy & $$$… They will be looking for a handout

  10. Perhaps you are confusing my post as some kind of endorsement of the “statement”. Not so. The entire agreement is meaningless. The Russians will help to finance “joint projects”. That’s an interesting phrase, no?
The Chinese have little influence (currently at least) on the events in the arctic. They have no coast line and no “territorial waters” there. No doubt they are interested in how their ships will cross through the arctic “international” waters…. assuming that ice extent permits shipping at all and if the open passage is indeed through international water and not territorial water. But then so are other nations and businesses.
It’s all just political posturing. Everyone wants to give the impression that they are on the “correct” side of events…. oh so very concerned, etc.

  11. Perhapes all these world leaders need to stop traveling all over the globe in their jets and start flapping their arms and flying to the moon instead of making more regulations, treaties and laws they’ll never ever abide by anyway

  12. Hopefully this is an indicator of the success they will have in Paris this fall creating the Climate Justice Tribunal. aka Global Government.

  13. “Obviously, China is already a devout socialist country.”
China hasn’t been a “devout socialist country” in a very long time. Ignore the iconography – the red flag, the communist party, Mao’s pictures – China is a corporate state these days.
The Chinese aren’t going to buy into anything that restricts their corporate success.
