I had a look at the names of the so-called medical scientists who were caught faking their own peer reviews, and I am reminded of the place that gave the world killer baby formula, toxic dog food, contaminated toothpaste, and lead painted toys.

The biggest problems seems to come from east Asia. Their universities are pumping out graduate degrees by the tens of thousands, and the recipients are sometimes desperate to make a name for themselves.
As an example, a few years ago I peer reviewed a submitted paper that presented “novel” algorithms that were already well known in the field. The authors, had they done even a modicum of literature review, would have known this. I pointed this out in my review, which the authors certainly would have read. I also recommended that the paper be rejected, which the journal editor did.
Only to find the paper popping up 18 months later in another journal. The authors obviously didn’t give a crap that their results were not new.

Gotta love the comments – “maybe it’s the deniers.”

I see some community in Florida has voted to rename Old Dixey Hiway for Obama Just as long as they have plenty of rest stops with outhouses along the way

The funding source of, or by NGO’s for agenda driven research should be clearly identified… OPEC & EU fund dubious groups & scientific publications. Research that really supports a competitive marketing strategy should be published as such….
