Yes, and the unflagging assertion is about as useful as the Russian flag on the Arctic seabed.
You don’t ‘own the Arctic’ anymore than a dozen other nations, who also have their eye on resource extraction…

Sounds like a bunch, but if you get a globe and look down over the north pole you will see that what they are claiming is in fact their northern coastal continental shelf along their multi-thousand mile northern coast…exactly what Canada and the US claim. The rub is where the claims overlap and what’s underneath.

2. Russia is 414 times the size of Holland.
3. For 178 years Russia grew by the size of Holland every year.
4. Between Norway and North Korea there is only one country — Russia.
5. Russia has the most contiguous time zones in the world (9).
6. Russia’s area is larger than the surface area of Pluto.
When the USSR invalded Finland in Nov. 1939 a Finn asked; Russia is such a large country, why do they need more territory?

The “Arctic” is an ocean, it’s not a land mass. Can you claim an ocean? If so, then I claim the Pacific.

Even if successful in claiming the seabed in the Arctic ocean, Russia doesn’t have the technological wherewithal to exploit it. Drilling for oil in the Arctic is tough.
