Red Rose Country

The government they deserve;

Alberta Environment Minister Shannon Phillips is vehemently rejecting opposition accusations she is a potential liability for her role in a decade-old book that urged protesters to break the law.[…]
Phillips was responding to questions over her role in the book titled An Action a Day Keeps Global Capitalism Away.
The book was written in 2004 by Greenpeace activist Mike Hudema. It detailed ways to protest government and business actions and to undermine institutions such as the mainstream media.
It provided a guide to organizing blockades or sit-in occupations, disrupting public events, defacing billboards and traffic signs, and shoving pies in the faces of public figures.
It gave tips on how to use the mainstream media to get the message out, but also provided ideas on how to undermine the credibility of the media with planted or false stories.
“The media hoax reveals that the media do not always (if ever) know what they’re doing, much less present the truth,” wrote Hudema.

  5. apparently she can correct punctuation without actually reading the sentences.
I think more will come out on her yet , like Bottlescrew Drever

  6. To Bad Alberta!! You took became Rich fat dumb and happy. You gave the guards the day off…and now you will lay in the bed you made. i voted wild rose and campaigned with rob anderson last election and voted for angella pitt this election. no one can say sh$t to me!! and i have the right to b$tch!!

  7. Bitching may be the only right you have left living in a province operating with an NDP majority. We can all bitch on this one since Alberta is the economic engine of the country so don’t feel alone!

  8. I hear you Liz, i am sooo upset with the Alberta voters and yes there are/were alot of pc voters that voted ndp out of ignorance. its one of those Alberta voters cut their noses off to spite their faces but really they cut their head right off to spite their faces.
We cangrovel all day long about the ndp but it was the voters that put them there!!

  9. What always amuses me about our Presstitutes is the naked contempt their fellow travellers hold them in.
Yet they continue to cover for, fawn over and kiss the ring of their progressive pals.
Must be some kind of personality disorder that drives these Urnalists.

  10. There are many comments about Albertans getting the government they deserve. It should not be forgotten that the PCs enormously and grossly abused the public trust and to put them back in would have basically condoned everything they did and told them to keep on keepin on. It may be sad but what were the options?

  11. I am waiting for Brian Jean to sprout a pair and start going after the NDP. He should start talking about the $8 billion deficit (my guesstimate) and caution in greenhouse gas reduction so it doesn’t destroy the economy. Jean needs to spread fear of the NDP to show Canada what they are going to get if they vote for Angry Tom. I’m afraid Alberta may not survive 4 years of the NDP idiots.
Interesting how Saskatchewan balanced their budget. If the moron PCs would have balanced the Alberta budget, we wouldn’t have a Communist government.

  12. This woman should be booted completely out of the government. She is an embarrassment and must go. The NDP is full of idiots like this and they are connected with idiots like Hudema of Greenpeace. Either this government or this province is going to go down fast.

  13. Yeah well, if experience is any influence, the Morontario experience with Boob Rae should derail any LIBRANO/NDP federal government.
Boob Rae’s first hurdle was an empty bench regarding cabinet.
Alberta is waking up to discover that the Alberta NDP has as shallow a talent pool, as Turdo or Angry Tom…..

  14. Wildrose was one. In fact, they were an even better option last time around when people got spooked by a couple of bozos making comments about gays. As it stands,I do not think WildRose could have been much worse than the NDP will prove to be.

  15. What?! Me? I have to speak up for the lethbridge girl from Mill Woods? I’m about as anti-left as people can get but there are several home truths here people should wrap their heads around:
1 – the NDP wasn’t voted in, the PCs were voted out.
2 – Ms. Phillips wrote that nonsense more than 10 years ago. In theory, one should assume she’s matured since then and look at her current attitudes – not those from her college years.
3 – the NDP got about 40% of the total vote largely because they have a hard core base that runs in the low 20s and lots of other people simply could not stomach the PC/Wildrose candidates running locally.
The fact is that the wildrose party got taken over by its crazies and will implode again while the PCs got fat and lazy. Put the energy of one with the brains of the other and you get a middle of the road party that’s socially liberal and fiscally conservative. It probably won’t happen, but it should – and if it did the could start by promising, right now, to repeal the HST David Dodge has been hired to negotiate for them.

  16. 2004, oh yes this was back in the days when the media when the media at least pretended to be neutral.

  17. Funny, I checked their platform and there’s no mention of doubling or even increasing carbon taxes. OK not funny. BTW they’ve also promised not to raise/introduce sales taxes. On verra.
Oh yes, their platform says they’ll ask “wealthy” people and corporations to pay a “little more” tax. Did Bubba give them that talking point. They actually expect to raise about $2billion more revenues from this. No doubt they took the difference in old and “a little more” rates and decided they would receive more revenues at the new rate, even though that never happens, marginal tax revenues decline as marginal tax rates rise. Oh but it’s different this time because beleaguered hard working entrepreneurs are eager to feed watermelon/UN/Al Gore’s coffers, unless they move or go out of business or whatever that is.
They also didn’t mention in their platform that, once elected, they would jet in every out of province watermelon to shut down the oil & gas industry and squeeze the productivity out of the provincial economy with a “little more” in taxes, regulation and overbearing government.
That always works, look at the prosperity and freedom the USSR achieved.
Then again what damage could they do in … four years? Maybe I should rephrase that.

  18. There should be acertian place for these Granola munchers/tree hugers/gaia orshipers on some distent planet

  19. The Bolsheviks can pretty much raise tax rates to whatever they want. I don’t think many Alberta corporations are going to be paying much income tax because revenues will be way down. A lot of companies arranged their affairs to maximize their income allocated to Alberta. The communists don’t realize that companies choose how much income tax to pay. They always make that mistake. Back in the day, I knew a Winnipeger who bought a house in Calgary but kept his large business in Winnipeg. On the $ million or so personal income he made each year, he paid at least $100,000 less in taxes and more of the corporate income was allocated to Alberta and taxed at a lower rate.

  20. NME666….be very careful calling it Newfberta. After 4 years of the NOTley Crue, Newfoundland/Labrador will be the only “have” province left. And people laughed at me when I started calling it Canuckistan. Welcome to the ROC, you AB useful idjits.
(full disclosure…I’m a Wild Rose Albertan). You think the oil/gas drilling companies fled AB when Red Stuipdmach introduced a royality? You ain’t seen nothing yet until Syncrude/Suncor etal start scaling waaaaaayyyy back. Welcome to BC’s $1.54+/liter. Coming to a pump near you in 2016!

  21. The problem with democracy is that everyone (above age) can vote. The stupid, the ignorant, the ones that don’t pay income tax. They all get to vote. Once voted in a party can ruin a province, a country in a short time. And no one is keeping the politicians ‘honest”.

  22. Folks i may be bitter and pissed off but i really hope alberta falls to sh!t all the locusts lefties, alberta hating newfies, (lots of lefty newfies here too who HATE alberta and albertans) socialists and commies all head back to their sh!t holes they created we can start to rebuild. ndp policies are a feature not a bug!!

  23. Sure Paul, you’s rebuild, problem is if all the “imports” leave you’ll have the same problem you had in the early 80T’s,a shortage of labour, and a shortage of skilled and talented workers. The useless one that moved out there for the better entry level pay will stat with you, and sponge on welfare. I had a customer in Edmunchuk back then, and smart was not the order of the day for many out there.

  24. NME666 – You’re a fool. There was no shortage of labour or skill in Alberta in the 80’s. There was a shortage of jobs thanks to the NEP.
Try not to blabber and show how ignorant you truly are.

  25. its like a dang nightmare. the herd votin mole rons got her in there. now mission no 1 will be to prevent Mother Naitch from ‘changing the climate’ the only minor coat will be to tax the oil & gas patch into oblivion. this must be that ‘time for a change’ all them herd voters was hopin fer.

  26. If they keep “global capitalism” away, they’ll go straight to the poorhouse.

  27. Doug >
    Absolutely!
If you don’t pay in or contribute any worth to a society as a legal citizen, you should have NO vote in how it is managed.

  28. Yes a Labor Shortage – That’s what all the Asian & Somali gangs have been pouring into Alberta over the last decade for – “all those jobs Albertan’s won’t do”. LOL
It’s time for a famine in Alberta, time to send the dregs back home!

  29. mojo >
    Of course, you can try.
There’s plenty of us in Alberta that are already waiting for the real firesales to get going. Good luck, and don’t trip on those equalization payments on your way over, they hopefully won’t be there for long either.

  30. Ural..you are bang on. I’ve been in Calgary since 1976, lived throughout eh NEP…and that little bit of Fascism left this province in the sh!tter for a long long time. 10-12 years at least. ZERO Work for the first 3-4 years..was J’man welder at the time…ended up going to College to better myself.
I can attest tot he FACT that the 80’s were not kind to Alberta.
I fear that (having also live through Bob Rae’s “days” that we will see similar damage done over the next 4 years…these marxist SOB’s are well on their way to ruining this province.9408
