Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Avery Haines, 2015
Toronto police have reached out to our @shaunacitynews and are consulting with the crown attorney's office to consider charges. #FHRITP

Avery Haines, 2000: “It’s not so much about me any more,” she says. “It’s about people feeling they can’t say anything.”
Ms. Haines has already blocked me on Twitter, precious thing.
Beauty. This story has been corrected to state that the men Hunt confronted were not hurling vulgarities.

Absolutely – it is the height of stupidity for anyone to agree that an employer can dismiss an employee for what the employer considers as “offensive” behaviour while not at work and not implicating the employer in any fashion (Unless they have a contract where they are paid for good behaviour while not at work, somehow I can’t see hyrdo having that here).
This would allow employers to basically use whatever means they want to get dirt, any dirt, on employees to fire or threaten to fire them at any convenient time.
This affects everyone nowadays. People must know that this means you are ‘ON’ 24 hours a days, that you will be held accountable to someone else’s arbitrary and non-defined sensibilities.
That certainly makes me want to utter some pretty f&$%king loud vulgarities.

Also, if she ever wants to be a real reporter, shouldn’t she get some thicker skin ? A professional reporter learns to roll with the punches and ignore the trivial garbage.
Its typical of soccer fans. In Europe they are holigans and Canadian fans are trying to emulate them.
My son lives near Empire Stadium in Vancouver that hosted both soccer games and CFL games for a year. The soccer fans were basically thugs that destroyed propery as they went to and from the games pis*ing on people lawns, shouting vulgaries etc. On the other hand the CFL football fans were just happy(when they won)and cheering.Big difference.
IIRC, there were firings after the Paul McCallum incident.

Some helpfully put the link to her faux pas on her twitter feed:

MikeG81. You don’t have to be at work to offend your employer. I’m not a lawyer (thank God) but I doubt that moron will ever work at Hydro One again (or any public entity), especially because he is an engineer and likely has supervisor and/or management status (you know, looking after the ladies and such). There are 40 years of case history outlining why you can fire an employee for off-duty conduct. Here is a start:

I feel very sorry for “Donna”.
And of course we have the example of Elizabeth May’s rant a few days ago. It would be nice if she were to be fired – either from Parliament or from whatever quack party she purports to head.
Howard Levitt, the NP’s resident employment lawyer has some different angles on this:

As for the case itself, saying vulgar things to women is a weak foundation for hoisting yourself up on the cross of free speech.
Why do I get the feeling that…
…the people who are outraged at the idea of their employers stalking them on social media (eg. your boss chewing you out because they saw the pic of you at Hooters on the weekend)…
…the people who join these cyber lynch mobs to identify some anonymous asshole and then badger the guy’s employer to get him fired (not because he was representing the company, but because it inflicts maximum vengeance with minimum effort)…
…are one and the same?
The guy’s an ass, fine him for gross indecency or something.
But if you support this kind of virtual manhunt to destroy someone’s life? Well, someday you’re going to wear a T-shirt with a provocative slogan, or someone will overhear you tell an off-colour joke to a friend (ie T-Shirtgate and Donglegate), and then they’ll come for YOU.
This guy needs to lawyer up and take the station and his employer to the cleaners.
But more to the point – put your big girl panties on, develop some putdowns and get on with your life.
If the soccer team he was on (playing?) was a Hydro One team then there may be grounds for dismissal. If it was not associated with Hydro One … different story. I think it was a really stupid stunt , but in a sane world he would be given a second chance rather than off to the gulag based on mob “Twitter” rule.
Part of it is the school system with “helicopter” parents . “trigger” warnings etc. where an entire generation has been raised to believe actions have no consequences.
If anyone can remember the 60’s … it would be unthinkable to do what he did. You would be an instant pariah.
**HEAVY SIGH**
Someone should inform the reporter, not to mention her SJW fellow-travelers in the Twitterverse, that Orwell’s “1984” was meant to be a cautionary tale, not a “how-to” manual.
“Thoughtcrime” indeed!
“And if I was on duty as a cop in the area and heard that language being used I’d have no problem charging them with causing a disturbance.”
Because you are a jackbooted thug with a Cartman complex. Her showing a microphone in peoples’ face is causing a disturbance, them punking her is not a disturbance at all.
Still pissing your diapers, eh?
There used to be a “Shakespearean insult generator” that was quite amusing.
“If anyone can remember the 60’s … it would be unthinkable to do what he did. You would be an instant pariah.”
That would be the decade that culminated with your generation copulating in public in the mud of puke of Woodstock?
And when you sobered up (some did), became the policymakers and build the society we live in today.
Nope, sorry there should be a constitutional amendment for baby boomers and those who raised them from ever using the phrase “back in my days…” or anything to that extent.
I’m sorry Kate–but I’m siding with this lady, who seems like a reasonable person. It’s easy to see that she meant no harm by the comment, simply because she assumed that it would be cut and not aired. The person who should fry is the editor or technician who allowed it to be broadcast.
Where will this stop?? When employees of a corporation or an organization unionize, we yell ”communism.” What next?? I lived in Saskatchewan at a time when government employees were fired because they refused to vote CCF and said so in public. I think CTV are way out of line on this one. And so is Hydro One on the Ontario case that was made public yesterday!!
Your diaper fetish notwithstanding, the fact that you publicly admit that you would abuse your position as cop to hurt an innocent person shows what a vile petty and contemptible individual you are.
Would all you people claiming the Hydro One guy never uttered any obscenities please go back to Kate’s original post and have another listen? They bleeped about 8 or 10 “Fu**ins” from that dude. So, no tears that he got outed as a boor and an a**hole. But it’s ridiculous that Hydro One went nuclear on his poor a** and fired him. That’s overreaction of the worst and most dangerous kind.
The only difference between the Hydro One guy and every other person who has ever used these words (I am sure most chastising him here never did… suuuure I tell you) is that he dared to disrespect a petty, vindictive, self-righteous and self-obsessed reporter who then jump started the twitter mob to destroy his life.
If soccer fans had any brains they would all turn their back to her next time they see her. They would also chant these words on evry game until he gets his job back and she no longer covers the games. Not holding my breath though… brains and soccer don’t mix… too many headers you see.
Colonitis. Your obvious quavering phobia notwithstanding, it is difficult not to draw considerable amusement from your incontinence.
I wanna report Liberals that road rage and cut people off driving so that they lose their jobs.
What ever happened to the Liberal bumper sticker identifiers that they all used to use?
Now the best we can do is just target the stick family vehicles, but that seems sort of diluted compared to what’s really lurking out there.
The CEO said he was fired because he violated the code of conduct which all employees must sign.
OK, fair enough. So I went and read the code of conduct.
Funny thing, it say NOTHING about personal behaviour outside of work where you are not clearly identifiiable with work.
This guy has a good lawsuit. The CEO knows this, but obviously is thinking the PR trumps the price they will have to pay in a settlement later.
Maybe what we should REALLY be worried about is that even the Conservative Party appears to believe that Free Speech, Privacy and Individual Rights are antiquated, and that More Government and a bigger Police State are OK.
We are, in the vernacular, hooped.
He acted like an immature asshole and deserved to get fired. Goodness, the use of that word will likely get me booted as well. Oh my.
