When it comes to Islam, he is right up there with Pat Condell.

Muslims are monkeys with oil money. We are stupid for buying it when we can produce enough of out own. We are funding our own destruction.

I keep hearing where only 1% are the problem Muslims. I would like to know of even one country on this planet where Muslims live in harmony with Christians,atheists or any other religion. That’s certainly a lot of turmoil created by the 1%. Muslim defenders are just as adept at pulling statistics out of their ass as the IPCC.

It’s ironic that Christopher Hitchens, and others like Pat Condell, helped facilitate the rise of Islam by weakening Christianity in western society.
Hitchens’ commentary accusing the Catholic Church of facilitating fascism was incorrect. It’s not surprising that Hitchens makes no mention of any Protestant culpability; his ‘hatred’ of the RC Church was his intellectual failing. The ‘enlightenment elites’ supported both Nazism/Fascism in Germany and Italy while the same ilk supported communism in Spain and elsewhere. The modern elites appear to be repeating their historical errors by supporting Islam’s growth in the west.

I’ve always said that Mr. Hitchens, as far as atheists go, is rather enlightened, unlike his mentor, Richard Dawkins, and his minions, who are, besides radical Muslims, one of the most intolerant groups in modern society.
It is my personal opinion that Mr. Hitchens is misinformed about the catholic Church, particularly the pre-WWII church, and so I will not challenge his opinion on that, because he has a right to his opinion, and I’m not offended by his belief. But unlike many so-called atheists, at least Mr. Hitchins acknowledges the freedom to exercise religious belief.
Thankfully, there are atheists that really don’t care who believes what, and aren’t offended, for example, of the public display of the crèche at Christmas time, or the 10 commandments at a public court building.

hey anslem and Nilesmaxim, most of those Katholics are a bunch of lefty twits. And niles, Dawkins lays it out pretty good. Just because you don’t like his analysis doesn’t mean it’s not on the money. Katholics quit burning witches only a couple of hundred (or less) years ago.
And yes Islam is BS, and it is also an Abrahamic religion, just like Kristianity and Judaism, so pick your poison, they are just different flavors of the same BS

Kate is right, we should all miss Hitchens, greatly. He reduced Youssef to spluttering incoherently by the end. And he’s right; this isn’t about Moslems vs. other religions, it’s about the Enlightenment vs the Dark Ages.

You’re wasting your time responding to that one (NME666). The hallmarks of his incoherent ravings are his silly 666 moniker and his juvenile use of K (i.e., “Kristianity”).
Regarding Hitchens, I liked him, notwithstanding his opinions on religion.
The obvious point of all this is: in a free society worthy of the name, everyone has the right to freedom of expression (yes, even the ridiculous NME666) regardless of whether it is considered offensive by the object(s) of such expression.

Actually, Mo lifted large parts of both the Torah and the bible. He was a shit writer, I guess.

I very rarely agreed with the man but he gets my respect because he never resorts
ranting and raving like your typical liberal. He is one of those men who can
disagree with you without being disagreeable. Hitchens was a regular guest
on the Hugh Hewitt show in So Cal where the debates never turned ugly. He
was one of those few genuine intellectuals on the left who possessed William
F. Buckley levels of intelligence.
He may have held all religions in disdain, but being intellectually honest,
he made the case about Christianity and the other major religions not being
the same as Islam. When he defended those other religions, it was like
listening to one of those 9/11 liberals like Ron Silver or Evan Sayet!
