They don’t understand yet that their beliefs are wrong, and that we’re here to teach them. As Frank Bruni puts it in the New York Times,
“So our debate about religious freedom should include a conversation about freeing religions and religious people from prejudices that they needn’t cling to and can indeed jettison..”
They needn’t cling so, and they can easily jettison their beliefs, but they will be the ones making the choice. No one’s forcing anyone to do anything.
We’re not creepy, or anything.

There are many things that Frank Bruni doesn’t get. In his own words:
“It disregards the degree to which all writings reflect the biases and blind spots of their authors, cultures and eras.”

Usually their solution is to ban, restrict, or otherwise inhibit some freedom.

Phedophiles and NAMBLA in particular must be giddy with anticipation. After all, nature abhors a vacuum and now that the latest perversions must be embraced, with the weight of the law behind it, the logical next step is beastiality or pedophelia. There are many people that love animals and also children. I mean REALLY love animals and children. They also want to end what they see as discrimination. Same tiny minority with only a few wires crossed in the brain. Just like us, could be your neighbor. The cake, catering and wedding planning industry is in for some interesting times. Hard to discriminate against one perversion when so many more demand equal rights. Can’t have a vacuum and the left is never satisfied with the status quo, so, Who’s next ? The champions of injustice are waiting.

What’s scary is that your paraphrasing of her argument isn’t satire, or even an exaggeration, but an actual description of the precise mechanics of her “argument”, only with the time and certain details changed.
In another world, in another circumstance, Kohn’s piece would just be an absolute embarrassment because of its logical inconsistency — a description that doesn’t even begin to cover it — but it’s not actually what it seems to be: She definitely understands at some level that she’s liberated from the constraints of logic by violence and despotism, by the threat of a very real, ill-willed and power-drunk force standing behind her as she types.
I don’t like to quote from an upcoming post (it’ll be up tomorrow morning), but Kurt Schlicter writes eloquently about what we’re starting to see the face of, when he says that in America today —
There’s a very, very ugly and petty and vindictive pleasure in Kohn’s piece. It’s not of this time, in a sense, it’s a throwback, and maybe a harbinger of the near future.
Only a woman could have written something as stupid as that Talking Points Memo piece. The 19th Amendment needs to be repealed.
I think the whole religious freedom argument in this case is the wrong way to frame it.
It is more a freedom of association argument in my mind. If a business chooses not to do business with anyone for any reason, that should be their own business. Perhaps they don’t want to do business with people who smell funny. The reason is really immaterial.

Kohn taking such awkward pleasure in her piece really struck a chord with me. The fact she put it out there(and was able to) for all to see means her ideology has an audience. A big audience. Which is probably why the first reference that came to mind was as extreme as to be reminded of the Nazi’s. I didn’t know how to word it at the time of posting, but I also felt like mentioning the fact that those who boarded the train didn’t survive despite the fact they “followed” the law. The ultimate definition of being between a rock and a hard place.
I look forward to your Schlicter post like I look forward to seeing him battling it out with SJW’s on Twitter.

Frank Bruni seems to think that since he’s more enlightened than anybody else, he has the right to write others’ religious doctrine. He doesn’t.
He’s right about increasing acceptance of blacks, women, birth control, etc., and that it’ll likely happen for gays too. But it’s not his call.
Sally Kohn’s article is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read. I’d expound at length but ‘Joel in AB’ @ 10:22 p.m. already nailed it. I’ll just add that a prominent leftist tactic is to blur the distinction between the voluntary and the coerced, and that’s what Kohn does too.

If a printer has the right to refuse to make anti-gay posters, he has the same right to make pro-gay ones. The concept is quite simple.
To those who answered my question: Thanks for the edification. I generally walk around these people when I come across them in the street. They are usually being verbal in a very unoriginal way – “what do we want and we want it now” – and wave very poorly made placards, often have bits of metal stuck in their faces and generally are lothesome.
That, dkjones, is EXACTLY right.
The left has tactically trivialized the issue by making it a religious one.
It isn’t. As you point out, it’s freedom of association.
But sadly, realistically, this right has disappeared.
Try making an argument today that a merchant should be free to deny service to anyone: a Jew, a black, an ivy leaguer, a homosexual, a red-haired person, a fat person, and watch what happens. Instant ruination. The argument that such a merchant only hurts himself economically is a dead letter today.
Remember Goldwater and WF Buckley were not against civil rights per se.
They were against the federal government breaking the constitution by going beyond its enumerated powers. By invading states rights.
And just think how ugly the term “states rights” has been rendered by the left.
There are still hold outs in the political correctness battle that activists have a problem with, simply because they are told to mind their own business. That includes activist judges. The biggest advantage they have is they are not white although many are Christians.
