Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

That’s not the Stig, look at the fake helmet! It’s probably Clarkson.
LOL. I wonder how fast that tank goes.
PS, nice fog lights
And what’s with the little Guy Fawkes heads on the sign? Is Clarkson Catholic? A good Yorkshrieman? INCONCEIVABLE!
It is my understanding that Top Gear is one of the most, if not THE most watched television program on earth. The silly socialist sycophants who want Clarkson silenced will end up shipping Top Gear to Fox News Network who will make millions of dollars from the short sighted stupidity of politically correct A-holes who run the BBC.
Snot a tank….it’s a SP (self Propelled Gun) (105MM)….it’s named Abbot….
During the early 1960’s a series of vehicles were developed on a common chassis and engine, called the FV430 series, for the British Army. It used a 240bhp Rolls-Royce Multi-fuelled engine, giving a top road speed of 50km/h and operational range of 395km.
The tank version is called Scorpion….armed with a 30MM Rarden gun.
All very British…..
An auto review series starring Jeremy Clarkson and friends would make a good Amazon series. Seriously. Unless stars start doing this (and if Clarkson won’t.. WHO WILL???) programming remains shackled to the menopausal PC hen brigade.. forever.
They’ll have to close down BBC Canada TV if they fire him. What would they do for re-runs?
Clarkson is a self-important, bigoted old prick.
However, the fact he publicly debases himself with the same contempt he shows almost everyone else has made me a grudging fan for years now. He tends to speak honestly when he dislikes something, a rare character anywhere these days. One that I respect.
Shocking that he has lasted at the BBC this long as he is the anti-Christ of political correctness.
Ha, have I done something to offend you Kate?
The Captcha on my last post was….crap4u.
Only a state run broadcaster would be moron enough to fire Jeremy Clarkson. Talk about killing the golden goose.
Nice to see The Stig showing up to riot.
… Some say he learned his driving skills at the wheel of an armored troop carrier
… His fellow bunkmates say the gun on this tank doesn’t hold a candle to his manhood
… But still others say that Top Gear without Clarkson will degenerate into Top Gear USA -ugh !
… It’s THE STIG !!!
I am stunned by the almost universal HATE of Clarkson. Have we all become a bunch of metrosexual twits ? Stumbling around in our own personal Twit Olympics ???
Just want for the Imperial Storm Troopers to arrive all under the United Nations

I’d like to think the backlash against the BBC suspending Clarkson and pulling the final three episodes of Top Gear is culturally significant and a sign of good things to come in the UK.
To those who have never or rarely watched, Top Gear is just a silly car show and Clarkson its primary loud-mouthed host, but Top Gear is such a significant brand it represents 50 million pounds a year in revenue to the BBC. There are books and magazines and DVDs and live shows. It’s huge. Viewing numbers in the UK hover around 5.5 million per episode, but the global audience is staggering.
Contracts for the three Top Gear presenters are due to expire at the end of the month, and it was widely reported they were close to resigning. That seems unlikely now, and this will be a major blow to the BBC, when it moves to another broadcaster. It will prove as significant a loss to them as the CBC losing the rights to Hockey Night in Canada.
There is a TV tax in the UK called the license fee (that goes to fund the BBC) and it’s tremendously unpopular: recent polls suggest 70% of the population want it eliminated or radically changed. This is an election year.
The Clarkson “fracas” (as it’s being called) and the public backlash against the politically correct/lefty BBC is a prime opportunity for the government to clip the BBC’s wings. Top Gear, like HNIC, is the only reason most centre-right people ever tune into the beeb. Without the program and the revenue it generates there will be a lot more people questioning whether they should be supporting this bastion of progressivism, and the answer will be a resounding ‘no.’
You correctly identify it as the Abbot self-propelled 105mm gun and part of the FV430 series of armoured fighting vehicles (FV433 to be exact.)
But it is not related to the Scorpion light tank which was used by cavalry regiments in the armoured recce role. Scorpion is FV101 from the Alvis vehicle family called Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked) or CVR(T) and has a low velocity 76mm gun. The 30mm Rarden cannon (three round burst capable) was used on another CVR(T) variant, the FV107 Scimitar which was issued to mechanised infantry battalions for their recce platoons.
So what is the problem? Being not so great Britain, AlgorJazerrya will just pick it up. I hear the muzzies are tired of watching beheadings and camel racing.
Yer probably right but don’t get all conceited now….it’s a fault that impairs perfection.
The other day I was driving through downtown Edmonton when I saw a bumper sticker saying “I am Stig”. The next car had personalized plates that read “NOISTIG”. I almost had an accident I was laughing so hard.
I am certainly right, but not clever or anything to be conceited about, just happened to work in that part of that army for a couple years,.
According to the article, in Great Britain one can apply for a special license to drive a tank. This in a country which has banned all handguns!
I’ll have to apply for said driving license.
It would be great fun to have target competitions shooting 105mm guns!
Not a license to drive a tank in particular. You need Class H for tracked vehicles. A civilian can get for bulldozers, etc. so they can get it for a surplus military vehicle. I’m not sure whether the gun would have to have been de-activated or they just rely on the ammunition not being sold over the counter.
Class H…sounds like those “towmotor licences’ which are not licences at all.
Merely certificates issued by community colleges and private firms to satisfy employers and compensation boards.
I dunno about not so great Britain but it seems in Canada no registration or licence pertains to artillery like that required for a .22 rimfire handgun…..
Most modern breachloading artillery on display, usually is not vandalized, but breach blocks are removed…..
This is because at the start of the Korean Conflict…..the US was forced to pull M26 Pershings off pedestals and rush them to Korea because the Nork’s Soviet supplied T34-85s were shooting up the Easy 8 Shermans then available in that region.
There is a fellow who drives a tracked APC around the streets of Edmonton. He has Alberta plates on it. The first time I spotted it he was driving it to his favourite coffee shop. His hobby is military vehicles.
