Why is his work still being cited by warmists? When a scientist who touts an unproven theory denounces as heretical those who continue to do honest research, no scientist, regardless of his views, should ever take him seriously.

From class one Bloodsuckers like Mann and Gore, to the secondary ticks such as government ministries and conservation authorities, and then the countless fleas who have enriched themselves via government grants and monies extorted from their neighbours via electrical bills.
But none of this would happen without two classes of victims: the dumb cheerleaders who do the moaning and send in their donations, and the slorky public-at-large that is too lazy to chase away the pests.

It was Rand Simberg at Competitive Enterprise Institute who called Mann that. Mark Steyn merely quoted him just as many others have done including yourself just now. How Mann can expect to win a defamation case against Steyn is not clear although stranger things have happened. It seems to be more a case of costing him a lot of money and time to defend himself – a nuisance law suit but a very expensive one.
