  4. Kerry’s “reassurance” has to be the single most disturbing statement ever made by a member of this most disturbing administration:

    “We are going to test whether or not diplomacy can prevent this weapon from being created, so you don’t have to turn to additional measures including the possibility of military confrontation.”

  6. I cannot get Tirador’s link to the Israel National News, but there seems to be a story to the effect that the US Administration threatened to shoot down Israeli aircraft on the way to Iran, presumptively to bomb it. A variant says that the Saudis threatened this.

    I respectfully disagree. Obama knows what he is doing and is doing exactly what he said he would do and that is fundamentally change the US. He did not add to that that he would further the cause of the MB while he was in the process of fundamentally changing the US.

    The internet is full of rumor, innuendo, and downright bull shit. You all know it. This assertion fits the latter description, it’s just BS.
    If the U.S. wanted to stop an attack on Iran, the best way to do so is to simply threaten to reveal that it is coming; the when, where, and how. The attack will then fail on its own.
    But why stop it you ask. Well, first because the likely route of the attack planes would take them over Jordan and Iraq. This route, unobstructed by the U.S., implies U.S. complicity in the attack. That’s not acceptable if the U.S. does NOT want to be complicit. Simple.

  16. Assuming the Obama administration did indeed threaten to shoot down Israeli jets, Israel should have launched the strike anyway, and called Obama’s bluff.
    He hates having to make decisions, even easy ones. Look at how he dragged his feet over no-brainers like the Bin Laden kill, reinforcing the Benghazi embassy, or rescuing ISIS hostages.

  17. Hans – you do an injustice to Neville Chamberlain. True he sold out Czechloslovakia back in the day. However, the reality was that Britain was in no shape to go to war. Chamberlain bought time for Britain to rearm sufficiently to stay off the German onslaught. Tough on the Czechs and Slovaks; the outcome would have been worse had Chamberlain not signed the treaty and the Brits been forced into a war for which they had insufficient armaments. As things turned out, it was a very close call; several books (fiction) have been written about why the Germans paused until the Dunkirk evacuations succeeded.

    Whatever Chamberlain’s intent, the respite allowed Britain to produce a whack of Hurricanes and Spitfires….while it allowed Goering to acquire about 2/3 of the strength the Luftwaffe possessed at the start of hostilities…..meanwhile Admiral Donitz desired number (300) of U-boats fell well short(40), but not for lack of trying.
    Britain’s “Chain Home” radar system was developed and built in the same period.

    What changed in the last few years? The history still happened … Chamberlain was still an idiot … why are people going to bat for someone who could have stopped WWII but didn’t?

  24. I’m on your side, Frances. During the Battle of Britain, the Luftwaffe had destroyed the RAF to the extent that the RAF was within 24 hours of obliteration. The time that Chamberlain bought with his “Peace in Our Time” gambit would have otherwise passed that 24 hours months earlier.

    Who exactly is going to bat for the Americans? Yes the Americans.     Yes, the Americans like to brag about how after entering WWI (when it was 3/4 over), the Germans just folded because the great Americans had entered the war. But somehow the Americans couldn’t give a tinker’s damn about preventing WWII at the beginning( as was their obligation as a signatory of the Treaty of Versailles) and ending Germany’s adventurism before the whole conflagration got roaring hot, if the Americans really had made the Germans quit at the end of WWI.

    Why does a state rich in oil and gas like Iran need centrifuges and uranium enrichment or even nuclear power plants when they have pools of sweet crude running in the rocky desert enough to power their whole nation at their present level of development for centuries?

    When you shoot the Israeli planes out of the sky, the US will have to get used to fighting Canada, Australia, Britain, and all the other free democracies that still exist.   32. I read two comments in defence of what was my Prime Minister, though I was 7 years old. I agree.
    It was later released that of the 10,000 WW1 aircraft only 6 all metal planes were operational. Britain would have been wiped out in the air war. I saw aircraft as a small boy at Farnborough. Lots of canvas, dope, plywood in construction.
    Molders of the Luftwaffe had 180 kills. An all metal plane against poor Polish, French, Dutch non-metal aircraft. Against the likes of Finnigan, Beurling, Sailor Malan the allied air aces, he could not have made 180 victories.
    When the war was declared Britain had 1,200 all metal planes ready. Even then victory was said to be in the balance.
    Dunkirk proved the valiant British Army was itself not ready for the Panzers.

  34. I have respect for everyone’s view point. Just because I clearly remember the 1930’s living in England, I certainly am open to debate. I do remember! WW1 900,000 British dead. Thousands crippled one way and another, also gas victims. 160,000 widows. The debacle of the depression and the General Strike of1926. The hunger marchers from Jarrow.

    True the war started full employment. What I am trying to say and please everyone bear with me, it that the country was worn out with the war. The mighty gold reserve in billions had gone. Fort Knox, Kentucky is believed to have most of it.

    Chamberlain did declare war after his ultimatum was rejected. That blasted swine Hitler is the culprit.

    Excuse my rant. I have lots to say about the real Obama have read both his supposed books. Going to do so later.

  37. Yeah France coulda stopped them but although the early German armour was basically inferior…the Germans did know how to use them….
    The French tanks lacked radios and with 2 man turrets were tactical nightmares. The Soviets made the very same mistakes…except the Soviets did concentrate their armour rather than scattering it all over the theatre.
    Every party in WW2 made vast blunders in armoured doctrine…and design……

    Trevor-Roper a notable historian flew to Germany. He pronounced them genuine. David Irving (later persecuted because he questioned actual death count of the concentration camps) challenged their authenticity.
    Investigations showed one Konrad Kujau – a noted forger had done the job. Trevor-Roper retracted. Rupert Murdoch was said to have published the diaries.
