Reader Tips

Bob Dylan’s latest album Shadows in the Night is a collection of Frank Sinatra songs — or rather, a collection of Bob Dylan covers of songs that Frank Sinatra covered. When I saw the song “Why Try to Change Me Now” on the track list I thought I’d probably be skipping that one because Sinatra’s version is so good;  &nbspI ended up leaving it on endless auto-repeat instead. It’s that good.
Alas, like most of Bob’s oeuvre it’s not available on YouTube or other sites, so, from 1959, here’s Frank Sinatra, backed by a small orchestra arranged by Percy Faith, singing Why Try to Change Me Now.
You gotta hear Bob’s though..

  2. lTemperature Adjustments Transform Arctic Climate History
I can now confirm that similar “cooling the past” adjustments have been carried out in the Arctic region, and that the scale and geographic range of these is breathtaking. Nearly every current station from Greenland, in the west, to the heart of Siberia (87E), in the east, has been altered in this way. The effect has been to remove a large part of the 1940’s spike, and as consequence removed much of the drop in temperatures during the subsequent cold decades

What hogwash ! Mt. Washington goes from too much snow to not enough in the blink of an eye. Kitimat frequently has huge dumps of snow. The Pineapple Express is a regular occurrence on the wet coast. Sometimes you get too much rain. The difference of a few degrees means a load of snow.
It’s simplistic and insulting for a reporter, Ian Bailey, to tell us that the reason is climate change. These occurrences are well within the normal range of weather.

  5. So Eve Adams crosses the floor to Justin’s circus and we’re supposed call that a “bombshell” in the politics of the day? I think she’s a good riddance and will be a good fit with the rest of the dames in that party. Will she be another riding pick by Trudeau as an award or will she have to run for the nomination?

  6. Oh, they’re wonderful people and all that. I just think we just need to be aware of what we’re dealing with.

“Concerned about terrorism and religious fundamentalism, Quebecers give unequivocal support to the Canadian military mission in Iraq and the new anti-terrorism law proposed by the Harper government.
Quebec voters, usually skeptical of measures focused on law and order, are more favorable than ever counter-terrorism strategy of the Conservative government. Three-quarters (74%) of Quebecers support the bill which gives more power to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the police in their fight against terrorism, according to a survey conducted Léger for Le Devoir and Le Journal of Montreal.”

“On the plus side, Eve Adams no longer has a concussion”
“It’s good to hear that Eve Adams’s concussion has cleared up. The MP for the riding of Mississauga-Brampton South pulled out of the Conservative nomination race for a different riding, Oakville North-Burlington, last August, citing her health. She had suffered a concussion as the result of a fall in Ottawa the previous February, she said, but had battled on bravely against her doctor’s orders. The strains of a nomination race became too much, however, and she stepped aside in order to heal her brain.”

“3 Mondays and 3 straight snowstorms for a frustrated Northeast”
“As the snow falls, so do records for extreme weather.
In Boston on Monday — with 62.5 inches of snowfall since January 15 — the record for most snow in a 30-day period has already been broken. The previous record was set in 1978.
With the third storm in as many weeks, how long will it be before the new record will be surpassed?”
