Suppose say, that for the last 100 years my family have been maintaining a weather station at the bottom of our garden, diligently recording the temperatures day by day, and that what these records show is this: that in the 1930s it was jolly hot – even hotter than in the 1980s; that since the 1940s it has been cooling.
What conclusions would you draw from this hard evidence?
Well the obvious one, I imagine, is that the dramatic Twentieth Century warming that people like Al Gore have been banging on about is a crock. At least according to this particular weather station it is.
Now how would you feel if you went and took these temperature records along to one of the world’s leading global warming experts – say Gavin Schmidt at NASA or Phil Jones at CRU or Michael Mann at Penn State – and they studied your records for a moment and said: “This isn’t right.” What if they then crossed out all your temperature measurements, did a few calculations on the back of an envelope, and scribbled in their amendments? And you studied those adjustments and you realised, to your astonishment, that the new, pretend temperature measurements told an entirely different story from the original, real temperature measurements: that where before your records showed a cooling since the 1940s they now showed a warming trend.
I don’t know if “Delingpole’s garden” is real or not, but my Dad had that very thing. For decades, literally, dutifully every night at 11 o’clock on his way to bed, he would record the temperature from a thermometer just outside the kitchen window, record it on a Currier and Ives calendar (anybody old enough to remember those?) on the date. Every night. Nothing ever changed other than I might have bought him a new thermometer once, long ago. The side of the house never changed, the driveway never changed, and at 11 at night, no one was ever coming or going (in my youth, I was always usually MUCH later..).
He’d always keep the previous year’s calendar hanging behind the current one, to check what it had been like the year before, but he never kept more than the two year’s running. Had I had the foresight at the time to hang on to those, I would have had precisely what is needed – a good steady database under as stable a set of conditions as you could get. Would love, now, to see what it showed…

There is a lot of money to be made revising the temperature data upward, especially so when the perpetrators are combined in a cabal with anti-resource development and anti-capitalist ideologies. The old Soviet sympathizers and 5th columnists have just adopted a new endgame that will end in the same results that the Soviets wanted.
The annual UN/IPCC climate summits have just replaced the old Soviet sponsored 1st – 5th Internationale Conventions.
If there was ever a time when we could trust eminent government institutions and the scientific establishment, that time has most certainly passed.

Take a close look at the charts in the article. It’s far worse than that. The keepers of temperature records have become so bold as to revise down past (older) temperatures while revising present (newer) temperature up to ensure that there is still an upward trend. It will be interesting to see how long they can keep that game going if the current flat trend continues.
I think that the same thing goes on in Canada. I have had reason to keep a couple of temperatures in mind, and when I look them up on weather.gc.ca the records show much higher numbers.

What we are seeing here is growing desperation among the warmists. Concern about AGW is fading, the evidence is not helping them, and the grants and money train will stop flowing if there is no crisis. The most recent pronouncement of 2014 being the “hottest on record” when everyone recalls it as a cooler-than-average year is the latest manifestation of their desperation.
Steve Goddard’s (AKA Tony Heller) website has many examples of the gross manipulation and outright fabrication of temperature records.
That these lowlifes would adjust temperatures up to “allow” for Urban Heat Island effect is totally nuts. Imagine how much concrete and asphalt has been laid down in the last hundred years. Anyone who has ever driven from the country into a city can testify to the warming caused by all that stored heat. One of my favorite sites from Anthony Watts’ research was one that had been on the edge of an orange grove back in the day but was now smack dab in the middle of a city. I presume they are still adjusting that site’s temperatures up, against all logic.
The obvious reason for all this cheating is that “global warming/climate change” is a huge part of the Progressive agenda. It is being used to expand government control over our lives. Skyrocketing electricity bills are just icing on the cake for the Sierra Clubbers that bankroll the left.

The rural weather stations have been “adjusted” to match their urban heat island cousins. As mentioned here, they also have to cool the past to make their models “work”. Anyway, far more reliable satellite measurements don’t show any recent warming or hottest year on record or any other slanted statistics.
