  1. Obama’s persistent refusal to shut down travel from West Africa seems very odd to a normal person, but it goes along with his leftist ideology. It seems that “Social Justice” theory dominates the Public Health field. Here is a comment that demonstrates the wacky thinking that results:

I attended the annual meeting of the American Association for Public Health many years ago, perhaps in the 1970s. The meeting was in Boston, which might help to fix the date.
One section meeting I attended was on imported diseases. The panel spoke entirely of the [23,000,000 annual, I recall] US travelers who brought disease “back” to the US. During the question period, I raised the issue of diseases imported by immigrants to the US. At the time, the CDC was already collecting stats which showed that most Hepatitis B was found among Asian immigrants or their associates, that drug-resistant TB strains were imported and dengue fever and so forth.
The panel reacted to my comment unanimously and disapprovingly. Negative mentions of immigration were not to be tolerated. The panel did not want to hear my data and the audience did not get to hear the further data that I wished to impart.

Only moments after we’re reeling in our fears from last week’s shootings, the CBC is already opposing any legislation that would give police more power to investigate terrorist activities before they take place.
Question: Let’s imagine one person, or a group of people who are planning an attack on any person or place in Canada. What more effective method is there to prevent an incident than to gather information and detain the offender
    before the event takes place?
Question: Are civil liberties more important than public safety?
Oh and by the way, let’s take a look at how the CBC handles it’s employees when civil liberties are at stake !

  3. Mulcair’s looking for protection? Oh, please, he’s just about as safe a guy as possible. Nothing like communists hoping for the destruction of Canada to be the Muslim’s best friend.
    Just ask Obama.

  5. “Question: Are civil liberties more important than public safety?”
They certainly are to me. Relying on government to keep one safe is not my idea of safe, and safety is an illusion hardly worth losing freedoms over. I grew up in Saskatchewan the same time as you, Plannzdrifter, but when I read your posts, thats where the similarity between us ends. I’ll stop now before I tell you what I really think about you and your statement(s).

  6. Anyone here going to rush out to buy Harper hater Michael Harris’ 500 page book “Party of One”?
Since he lost his podium as a talk show host on CFRA I’m assuming he’s going to use his time to join the Media Consortium to ensure Harper is defeated next year. There will be more than a few out to get Harper, we know Mike Duffy is going to blow off a load as well.

  7. I heard him on the radio this AM. He interviewed all the people with an axe to grind. Also, he accused him of personally making parliament powerless. This is a trend that has been ongoing through years of Liberal rule.

  8. I recall an associate, a Quebecer, recalling how Levesque moved about with one (1) security guy (unobtrusive almost invisible) but Parazzo had a retinue similar to Obama…..
I suggest they just give Mulcair a CC licence…..like Layton had…..

  9. Yes Robert, I heard part of the Madley interview as well. He’s had it in for Harper since he stated we should join our traditional allies in Iraq. It’s also typical of such people to toss in a few others in the Conservative party who did not want to be identified for their contribution to his Harper slagging tome.
Guess it’s tough for the Left to see a real leader in action, leaders listen to ideas but they ultimately make the decisions.

  11. Clearing the fog of war:
“On October 22, a lone terrorist with a rifle not only brought Canada’s capital to a standstill but became an instant star of global jihad. We in the media had to cover and comment on the event — that’s what the news business is about — but our unavoidable, all-but-exclusive focus on the unfolding attack gave the murderer-for-Allah riveting international publicity. Islamist terror got more air time for the price of one self-radicalized thug than any political candidate facing our midterm elections has managed to pay for…
What messaging of ours would have deterred that shooter from running, armed, toward Parliament? What argument of ours might have discouraged the recent convert who ran down two Canadian soldiers (killing one) a few days earlier? Or the Tsarnaevs of Boston? Or Major Hassan of Fort Hood? Or the hijackers of 9/11?
Islamist fanaticism offers the powerless, bitter, and hopeless license on earth and luxury in paradise. We’re scolds who offer minimum-wage jobs.
Is the terrorist recruit truly irrational?”

  13. The CBC has an article up;
” Michael Zehaf-Bibeau and Martin Couture-Rouleau: Their shared traits ”
They do not mention a very obvious one, the hyphenated last names.
Hyphenated last names are most prevalent among the progressive lefties. Last election, the NDP and Greens had 22 candidates with hyphenated names, the Conservatives and Liberals had 4 each.
The hyphenated name is a badge of progressive feminism that tells the world that they are serious about equality and rights for all. They are very often meddlers who know better than the rest, and are not shy about letting you know.
Both of these terrorists were raised by that type of proud emasculating womyn. Our schools are full of them.
Their children rebelled by killing, a traditional masculine trait. They showed mom that they were no longer under her thumb.
    They could be real ‘men’.
    But they are not.

  17. Yes he did interview everyone with an ax to grind, including that idiot with the “Stop” sign in Parliament. What could she possibly know about Harper, beyond her personal litany of complaints. Such a one-sided view will be dismissed by any thinking person.

  19. Heh, two old Sask socialists arguing over what gov’t should do for them. One on the side of gov’t giving them civil liberties and the other on the side of the gov’t giving them safety.
Now you see why Sask has been backward for so long. The gov’t can give neither. And, historically, has only taken both.
