Hey Alberta, do you miss Redford yet?
According to newspaper reports, (Alberta Premier Jim) Prentice has embraced the idea of replacing Alberta’s coal-fired electrical generation, not with natural gas, but with renewable energy — wind and solar power.
Mr. Prentice is reportedly a “big fan” of renewable power, and wants to “make investments” in renewables in the context of an “overall climate plan” for the province.

The majority of Albertans who voted PC re getting what they voted for. The Red Rat isn’t the only problem
with that party.
And how’s that worked out for Ontariowe? They’re up to their ying-yang in debt, much of which is attributable to their green energy initiatives. Add to that the highest electricity rates in the country which are driving out industry and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Prentice, like Redford before him, is a Joe Clark Red Tory and this province neither needs nor can afford another dose. Well past time to get rid of these clowns.
CINO. This is what happens when governments buy into the BS of climate change. The ultimate goal is to bring western civilizations down to the level of third world countries. I wonder what organizations prentice is affiliated with? That would give some clues as to who he gets his orders from.
Alberta – the Venezuela of the North? As is often pointed out in this forum, even Venezuela’s oil wealth
is not enough to overcome Venezuela’s politicians.
Nick “I wonder what organizations prentice is affiliated with?”
I know one group he was not affiliated with – The Reform/Alliance Party. He was pretty much the only federal conservative who stuck with the Progressive Conservative Party which pretty much makes him equivalent to a Trudeau Liberal.
You spelled Turdeau wrong
Why in God’s name did people vote for the PCs in 2012? What were they thinking?
The next provincial election is in about a year and a half. Maybe we can fix the problem then.
As long as he muses for the next two years. I’m afraid he will move on this quickly. We in Alberta will be in Ontario’s position much sooner than most expect.
What you notice, coming into Calgary from the South via the Crowsnest Pass, is the vast array of wind farms and transmission towers (currently under construction. They’re already deeply into the soup; please tell me it wasn’t heavily taxpayer subsidized…
Friends in AB tell me that area is subject to almost constant winds.
Who is Prentice trying to please. No one in the Province voted for this policy.
I think what I was observing in my previous comment was Oldman #1 and #2

Alberta saddled with an anti-carbon Premier is rich. If he were actually anti-carbon but otherwise rational he would go nuclear so he is actually a green theocracy progressive. His Wind and Solar options for Alberta actually mean 80% carbon-based base-load of whatever the capacity of the green bird-chopping eco-crucifixes. Therefore he is not actually anti-carbon but he is counting on LIVs in thinking he is. The Alberta PCs long ago (Lougheed’s first term) morphed into Liberals.
Of course it’s subsidized. These subsidy mills do not work
Albertans- You are going to be screwed. Long and hard.
HEEEE, Heeee, heeee….
Yup, take a look at your so-called “right”. Danielle is an AGW Believer, and Gentle Jimmy is a sun worshiper.
Hell, you Albertans are startin’ to look a lot like Trawna. 😉
It would be an investment if it was his own money. What he’s talking about is extortion.
The author of this article still seems to believe that Carbon Dioxide is a dangerous climate altering gas when he states that capturing carbon dioxide is laudable. He seems unaware that CO2 is plant food and the burning of fossil fuels is greening the planet and not warming it as the now 18 years of no global warming proves.
“The study showed that 80% of the wind-power generated in Ontario was out of phase with demand — 80%!”
And they have to sell off the surplus, when the wind IS blowing, to the U.S. at a loss.
Prentice is as big a green UN new world order type as Redford.
What a shame Albertans, and all Canadians, are so tolerant.
As quoted by EBD – Prentice is reportedly a “big fan” of renewable power, and wants to “make investments” in renewables in the context of an “overall climate plan” for the province.
EBD nailed it – In the current vernacular “Fan”, as in ardent supporter of a team or cause is short for fanatic.
Prentice is a Liberal in a blue suit.
Maybe, oh lagomorph, but you can’t fix stupid.
Progressive Conservative is an oxymoron.
The left / green mental illness is wide spread. Since Alberta is about to have some bi-elections including one to get Green Jim into the leg, then Albertans this is your chance to let the PROGRESSIVE-cons know hat you think of Green Jim’s ideas. If you vote him in you risk turning Alberta into Ontario West.
Yet Jimmie is is concerned about electricity price spikes.

Wait until his green agenda is implemented. Not only price spikes but rebates to select groups to soften green spikes.
Exactly. Many on this board said this, including me, when this Joe Clark clone was elected.
Kick crypto-commies to the curb.
Jim needs to bookmark this page and get back to reality. http://ets.aeso.ca/ets_web/ip/Market/Reports/CSDReportServlet
“Progressive Conservative is an oxymoron.”
No…just a plain moron.
Well, well. Am I surprised….not. Mr Prentice was the Environment Minister when he quit politics federally in 2010. I always got the impression that his quitting was his form of disapproval of Mr Harper on the AGW file he dealt with. Left in a huff, more like it, and Harper wasn’t going to quit to let Jimmy Boy into the Big Chair.
Now he’s baaaaack. An ex Ontario boy, like Harper, he actually worked as a coal miner in the summers while attending Dalhousie U. So, like Redford and Stelmach, now doing his bit to wreck Alberta’s economy and drive up the cost of living here, too.
Too bad that Danielle suddenly embraced AGW soon after the last election. She coulda been a contender. Now the grass is cut out from under her stance. Prentice is actively courting Wildrose floorwalkers, too I’m hearing.

Tell him it’s truth or consequences.
Did Mike Crawley move to Alberta with paper bags of cash?
the PC maroons can’t “plan” anything but getting elected.
J.P.’s latest “plan” is portables for “quickie” schools in Calgary. Why not just teach the kids on the school bus?
People blame Ralph for sacrificing infrastructure to eliminate the debt.
Well, it’s been at least 8 years since and still waiting for schools. WTF?
They blow a year doing a P3 bid for 15 schools and kill it after balking at one bid $12M over the estimate? They could probably sell a few inner city school yards that are closed down for that $12M….
ALberta needs a change of government. the PC’s are just bereft of doing anything right.
I attempted to contact Prentice when he was federal Minister of Environment, just before and just after Climategate.
I wanted to know who verified the work of the IPCC as policy grade for use in Canada. As in who signed off on that garbage?
After Climategate it was, When will Canada instigate criminal investigation of those bureaucrats involved with IPCC?
Got two form letters, with his signature on them.
Man is a fool and power hungry to boot.
Good luck Alberta.
don’t blame me! I haven’t voted for the PC’s since Ralph was in charge
Prentice has to run in a by election to get a seat. The electorate can finish him off there.
The more I read about the “renewables” racket, the worse it gets. In Britain, their backup plan for when their new energy system fails is to beg conventional suppliers to bring their plants out of mothballs and to fire up some portable diesel generators. It’s the new “green”: coal and diesel. There will also be rationing, but the bureaucrats call it “demand and supply balancing services”:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/energy/10888078/Britain-readies-last-resort-measures-to-keep-the-lights-on.html
I think the biggest reason lefty politicians love the green energy scam so much is that allows them to legally divert billions of taxpayer/ratepayer bucks to beloved supporters:
http://nlpc.org/stories/2014/05/21/how-warren-buffet-fleeces-consumers-taxpayers-through-wind-energy
man, it is too bad that there are no conservatives left in Canada.
Too bad there are no brains engaged in the politics of Canada. We’re going to be the laughing stock of the world when the most unfit, unqualified person in our history gets the top job in the politics of this country.
Prepare for the worst, it’s coming, Conservatives are still not doing what they need to do, call the Media Party and the rest of the Opposition on all their lies and put out the facts. The PM needs to do more communicating with the people instead of letting the media run with half truths and outright lies.
Alberta – the future Ontario. I can’t believe it. I really thought they had more common sense than they appear to at the moment…
Anyone who voted this election after Red Ed & Redford for the “progressives” is a fool period. As much problems as wild rose has with a platform that is so elastic it sags, is no where near as bad as these entitled elitist idiots. At least Wild rose will have to watch what they do least they end up in the political dumpster. These energy scams are just kickback heavens for greedy politicians. Its why they love them. So much to hide than steal.
To vote the “progressives” is to vote for a super NDP oligarky.
