My Editor Hates Me

This twaddle made me laugh out loud in places.
This, in reference to ISIS:

These young people aren’t monsters and haven’t had their brains or bodies snatched. They’re going through adolescence. It’s dicey.

Are you a bad parent? Have you ever said this? “Now, now, Johnny. No beheading the kids at school!” Don’t you know the first thing Johnny is going to do now is behead little Janie? Rick Salutin told me so.

So what is parents’ role? It’s not telling their kids what to do, since they’ll almost certainly not do it. And even more, not telling them what not to do, since they’ll likely do that, or try it out.

How about this J-school example of ladder logic:

All revoking citizenship does is dehumanize its targets, since citizenship is a human right. Do we really want Stephen Harper or Chris Alexander to decide who counts as human and who to exclude as monsters? This is sheer incitement of more anger and alienation.

So, lemons are purple?
This is an even better example of idiocy when you click on the hyperlink in the article…it goes to this. An article about revoking the Canadian citizenship of…da da dumm…dual citizenship holders. So, relax, Rick, humanity saved, they’re still citizens of Somalia, Lebanon or wherever.
It’s the Toronto Star and wherever Shiny Pony’s mouth leads, they must defend. Maybe it’s satire, right? Right?
It must be satire.

  1. Salutin is right. How many of us – honestly – didn’t decapitate people when we were adolescents? How many of us didn’t make people dig their own graves before we executed them?
Get off yer’ high horse, lance.

  2. “Maybe if Mo3 had survived, he’d have drawn conclusions and turned into a useful member of his various communities.”
    Oh my f***ing oath!
Yeah, and just as likely he’d have come home even more deeply committed to jihad, and would have convinced hundreds of others to go over and do the same.
Salutin’s naivety is astounding. Thank god he isn’t involved in politics, except as an apologist for the Trudeau kid.

  3. You should stop hyperlinking posting TorStar articles. Some of us might inadvertently click the link and give them an unjustified ad impression.

  4. Hopefully they analyze the clicks and publish even more of Rick Salutin’s musings.
The guy is gold, if you catch my drift..

  5. Nope not satire.
Its the position Justin was running with and was going to pivot away from until he got the escape hatch shut on him by SNN.
But because he can only modify his position with whatever “nuance” Gerald can manage to develop for him, he is still stuck with the science fictioney position that only has credibility if you bend the rules of space and time.
This issue has the potential of really sinking the opposition because they’ve invested so heavily in demonizing Harper to where they reflexively take a contrary position, and in Justin’s case without considering Harper may actually be right. Because this threat is real it requires a response that is a combat role Justin and Mucliar are saddled with their ideological baggage and their adulation of Obama. The same Obama that is currently running around looking for partners in a coalition for this military action…and Harper is getting ready to throw that in their face.
So what’ll it be Thommy and Justin, support Obama’s not a war, or stand with the terrorists?

  6. Never in my life will I ever pay a cent towards the Toronto red star, the globe and mail, or any other rag that publishes such horrific trash.

  7. No, it’s not satire. It’s Rick Salutin, and a bigger left wing nutbar you’ll have trouble finding anywhere.

  8. “Do we really want Stephen Harper or Chris Alexander to decide who counts as human and who to exclude as monsters?”
Yes. Yes I do. Killing the monsters is still the desired approach, however keeping them as far away from Canada as possible will have to suffice. For now.

  9. Even the commenters at the Star don’t agree with Salutin! How far out to lunch do you have to be to loxe Star readers.

  10. Man, the floor around this guy’s desk must have been running red by the time he finished writing that tripe. He’s a well established member of the Toronto Literati (check out his Wikipedia entry). Gives us a window into the cocoon they all live in.
EBD is right. Bring us more Salutin, Toronto Star.

  11. “It’s Rick Salutin, and a bigger left wing nutbar you’ll have trouble finding anywhere.”
Exactly. Salutin is so far left he would qualify for the job as editor of Pravda if the commies ever do establish a communist utopia in Canada.
It was amazing that not a single Star commenter supported his drivel.

  12. It is unbelievable that any newspaper would print an opinion piece that nutty. I know the Star prints a lot of garbage (e.g. Heather Mallick) but this takes the cake.
I’ll take his closing line and suggest that if we as a country wanted to revoke citizenship for mind pollution so horrific that it amounts to treason, we would have to start by revoking his.

  13. No, carrots are purple! At the end of the day, people who say
otherwise are delusional. Much like the two Trolls who frequent
this Blog. You just gained my respect for using the term “Ladder
logic,” a concept that liberals will never understand without
reading a thousand books on the concept of motor control circuits
    and PLC programming!
Take that North of (I am starting to run out of communist
countries here,) and the man who still does not know how to
spell the name William of Ockham.
I am having a lot of fun here!

  14. Just spray Febreeze in that 3 week old garbage thats stinking up the house also there also Rick Torontotard.

  15. Speaking of “My editor hates me”:
Considering the fact that he’s talking about beheading, the “it’s dicey” is a, er, nice touch.
I suspect no one is allowed to edit or even question Salutin’s stuff at this point.
And/or that nobody who works there even notices that that might not be the best choice of words.

  16. “It’s Rick Salutin, and a bigger left wing nutbar you’ll have trouble finding anywhere.”
Exactliodo, Quasimodo. And it takes a silver-spoon socialist like Salutin (Upper Cda College) to really push the needle on the fatuous-drivel-o-meter up to 11. I recall a Globe editor telling me once that Salutin was the smartest guy working at that newspaper. I replied that I didn’t think that was anything to brag about.

  17. Oh, and Salutin is a leftist boomer.
That’s why this column is actually about… him.
These types cannot go a day without steering everything back to their supposedly rebellious, noble, misunderstood youth.
In excusing these “teenagers” he is looking for validation for his own youthful activities.

  18. well now hang on fellas.
This is a case of ‘ape kill ape’. Moslems that kill other moslems should get medals – might I suggest the Odour Of Canada for Mohamutt Modummer Modammit?
And it is sad really, to see these martyrs going down in a dump like Syria. Guys like him could be killing other mussies right here in Canada!
    What a waste.

  19. Is he saying that people who are not Canadian are not human?
Do we really want Stephen Harper or Chris Alexander to decide who counts as human and who to exclude as monsters?
But I’ve always known Salutin was a socialist nitwit; surprised he’s still alive.

  20. The only problem with your thesis is that Obomber isn’t serious and his “coalition” is a fiction. Otherwise, I agree 🙂

  21. I’m with you, EBD. I went through that beheading, dig your own mass grave then I’ll slaughter you phase. But I got over it and matured into an Einsatzgruppe and concentration camp/Gulag kind of guy. Now I’ve settled down into a stable secret police/Stasi cum Gestapo job with the occasional stint over at the Lubyanka torturing confessions out of political opponents. Some say it’s a bit repetitive, but at this stage of my life, with regular hours, weekends off and only a few years to pension, it works for me.

  22. I haven’t read Salutin in years, for much the same reason I don’t read Geoffrey Simpson: I can’t get through a few lines of their writing without nodding off in a bored stupor.

  23. “Salutin is so far left he would qualify for the job as editor of Pravda if the commies ever do establish a communist utopia in Canada.”
I disagree. He fits the bill of one of Lenin’s “useful idiots”.
No editor of Pravda job for him come the revolution. He’d be quickly dispensed with.

  24. That would be more of Rick Salutin’s amusings, right?
    EBD makes a key point.
We will need to adopt a black comedy outlook if we are to survive the very real prospect of Obama 2.0 in Canada.
My wife opined, long before he captured the LPC leadership, that Trudeau fils would be king. I’ve been mentally preparing.
See Mencken on the people’s ultimate triumph: seeking, finding, refining and elevating the perfect moron to the highest public office in the land. Salutin, who has learned absolutely nothing over the decades, will be the ultimate court jester.
I’m kinda looking forward to it in my dotage.
It will be black comedy gold.

  25. I don’t agree, MND. Salutin is much worse than a mere court jester. He’s an enabler of a gang of vicious murderers. He seeks to justify them, normalize them in simple domestic terms. In providing such justification, he has as much figurative blood on his hands as the thugs in black hoods.
Make no mistake, right now he’s probably being congratulated for his “courage” by his sycophants and fellow travelers in The Annex. They’re all UN-loving Kosmos, and they’re all a complete waste of oxygen. They are all just as much the enemy of civilization as ISIS is.

  26. Wonder if Salutin would consider entering politics? Any guesses as to which leader might welcome him with open arms?

  27. Poor little Johnnie, going through adolescence and the attendant hormonal changes, it’s dicey for him, so we should understand if he decides to rob a bank, or murder someone, or joint IS. Anyway, should we leave it up to the police and judges to decide if he’s a criminal? After they have a human right not to be locked up.
My sarcasm aside, what isn’t a “human right?”

  28. Anyone got a Lexis Nexis subscription? I’d love to see what Salutin had to say about the future Pope Benedict being a Hitler Youth member.
(He was forced to be but hey, 10 bucks says Rick overlooked that little fact.)

  29. This guy is amazing. According to him stripping citizenship is inciting “anger and alienation” and only serving to encourage “radical, violent behaviour.” Right, just like the prison at Guantanamo Bay provoked the 9/11 attacks…

  30. I was going to make the same observation but you beat me to it. His drivel could apply to anyone who joins an extreme religious or political organization. Is Salutin going to write something similar for young Neo-Nazis or skinheads?

  31. Rick Salutin is a rainbow colored tube of Life Savers. There’s a hole in the center of every idea he has.

  32. This journalist should understand that there is not too much sympathy for a 20 year old who has decided to become a terrorist. Maybe he should look at the young girls that are being kidnapped and raped or sold as sex slaves by ISIS. They are the ones that deserve Mr Salutin’s talk about adolescents whose lives are difficult and “dicey”. I personally do not care if Mo 3 and others of his ilk lose their Canadian passports. Their passports should be incinerated. I would prefer the incineration was done by a coalition bomb while the passport was still in their pocket.
