  1. Orkney and Shetland, give them back to Norwegians and Danes, historically they where never the Scots anyway.

  2. Interesting the islands are saying ‘no’. Guess they figure trading London for Edinburgh won’t be an improvement.

  3. Too early to call…
Although the Glasgow burbs (Dunbartonshire) went both ways…there’s a whack of votes in Glasgow.(nearly half a million).
I figure it’s much like Queerbeck….the matter will be decided in the large urban ridings.

  4. Grew up in BC. My father used to say how frustrated he was on election day when, upon polls closing in our riding, he would turn on the radio and be told who had won before his vote was even tallied. Suspect there will be a similar frustration in Scotland should large swathes of the countryside vote one way, only to have the issue decided by the urban pockets.

  5. I’m just getting this mental image of Scotland and Quebec waking up with horrible hangovers, picking up their strewn clothes, and trying to avoid the walk of shame while Canada and the UK titter in amused disapproval from where they’re watching from their breakfast nook.

  6. It doesn’t matter if it’s a yes or no vote. I read the info about their proposed constitution. If they gain independence they will just be a progressive lefty euro-weenie state part of the EU and still have the queen as their figurehead. Stay with the UK and they have all that still.
They had a chance to punt the tyrants of EU and england out of their lives and adopt and completely from scratch constitution that valued limited gov and personal liberty just like one that has been shown to work. The US was the best country in the world regarding gov and freedom until the last hundred years of the usual progressive enemy has destroyed it.
So anyway most of the scots are just euro-weenies just like most of Americans now and Canadians also.

  7. The nationalists have two arguments that they really won.
The first is the old Bonaparte argument that those who didn’t vote (14%) didn’t oppose the yes vote based on
39% voted Yes 47% voted No and 14% didn’t vote that is 53% in favor.
The second is that 11% of the electorate is other UK (mostly English) and a further 7% are other foreigners and therefore a majority of true Scots voted yes.
45% all TRUE SCOTS voted YES
55% voted NO including 37% TRUE SCOTS and 18% enemies of the human race (English and other foreign riffraff).
Therefore the TRUE SCOTS voted 45/82 YES 55% and 37/82 NO 45% thus the YES won.
Expect to hear much more BS along these lines.

  8. “The US was the best country in the world regarding gov and freedom until the last hundred years of the usual progressive enemy has destroyed it.”
Ah yes, 1914 — the high-water mark of US civilization. When it had only been about 50 years since official slavery had been abolished, and another 50 more would pass before Jim Crow was ended. When the absence of child labour laws meant that (working-class) 8 year olds boys and girls could still work the factory floor night shift (middle-class kids not being available, since they were all asleep in preparation for school the next day). When the infant mortality rate hovered around 1 in 10, life expectancy was less than 50, and the flu was preparing to hit 30% of the population and kill half a million citizens in a few years’ time.
Meanwhile, “the usual progressive enemy” of the last hundred years just happened to coincide with the greatest eceonomic expansion in human history, the creation of the modern middle class, and the establishment of a social safety net that among other things dramatically reduced the likelihood of seniors living in poverty.
That is, until the last 30-40 years ago, when a resurgent neoliberalism — marked by adoption of conservative economic policies and a gradual dismantling of social programs — coincided with the stagnation of real earned wages among the working- and middle-class and rising income and societal inequalities.

  9. I was going to say that you cherry picked the best accomplishments of the Democrats over the past 100 years, but then I realized that your list is all inclusive, in fact, overstated. …and all in 100 words, or less.

  10. DSV “Orkney and Shetland, give them back to Norwegians and Danes, historically they where never the Scots anyway.”
Historically meaning prior to 600 – 800 years.
What are you – Irish? Those English Protestants moved to Ireland last week – like starting in 1609.

  11. Quebec Seppies might want to take note for their next attempt at separation….the question was clear, not the convoluted question they asked in their failed attempt.

  12. Kt “Ah yes, 1914 — the high-water mark of US civilization. And the world came barging through the doors because it was so much better than anywhere else.

  13. Quite true, and strongly reminiscent of Jacques Parizeau, his pur laine, and his “money and the ethnic vote”.
