Malaysia Airlines jet carrying 295 people has crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border…
#Ukraine: A #Malaysian Airlines passenger jet has been "shot down". Reports say 295 onboard: https://t.co/1pQI9ToJ6u

Expect “conflicting reports”, but Sky News is also reporting it was shot down. Cross your fingers there was no Archduke aboard.
So in 2 days, two Ukrainian fighter jets have been hit by missiles. One Ukrainian transport plane destroyed by missile. Now a passenger jet.

As usual the government doesn’t do its basic work – defending its people. Here the International Civil Aviation Society gave out warnings but I guess they were all too being out to fancy lunches (or also just out to lunch) to make it stick by making a big fuss about the dangers of flying over a war zone. And no one airline wanted to lose money by taking a longer route.
Bingo!
For your own recollection…
April 20, 1978: Korean Airlines Flight 902, which diverted from its planned course on a flight from Paris to Seoul and strayed over the Soviet Union. After being fired upon by an interceptor aircraft, the crew made a forced landing at night on the surface of a frozen lake. Two of the 97 passengers were killed by the hostile fire.
– Sept. 1, 1983: Korean Air Lines Flight 007 shot down by at least one Soviet air-to-air missile after the 747 had strayed into Soviet airspace. All 240 passengers and 29 crew were killed.
– July 3, 1988: Iran Air Flight 655 Aircraft was shot down by a surface to air missile from the American naval vessel U.S.S. Vincennes. All 16 crew and 274 passengers were killed.
so keep your flak jacket, and helmet handy!

I went with the Hanlon attribution as I wanted to avoid the “invasion of Russia” overtones…
Otherwise, correct.

Not to make merry at a tragedy-cum-abomination (it is SO beyond outrage!), but I spent a lot of time on the newsfeeds this afternoon, and you might find this interesting enough to post separately, Kate – another egregious example of the newspapers doctoring their photos.
The Buk missile system is shown launching a missile in several newsfeeds – the same picture in all of them. Please study the picture – what do you notice?
1) the missile is departing the launcher at a good 30-degree angle to all the other missiles on the rail. That’s a no-no; all the missiles on the rail point in the same direction, all the time, and the launcher physically can’t send one off at a steep angle to the others.
2) the fins on that missile don’t match the fins on all the other missiles in the picture, that are still on the launcher. It’s not the same kind of missile.
Indeed, the fins on that missile are characteristic – the missile launching in the picture is a U.S. Standard missile, found on naval ships. I’d be willing to bet a substantial sum of money that no Buk missile system can fire a U.S. Standard missile.
I saved the photo in my ‘idiom’ folder under the title “Clumsy Photoshop”.
I see no UN or other agencies , including media asking for de-escalation here.
That of course is only reserved for Jews who defend them selves.

In the many media photos of this weapons system, they’ve used the same photo as I imagine nobody from the western media was present when this was being used to bring down the airliner.
It’s likely what the russians have used to shop this around, or to simply show what they’re capable of doing.
*a guess,
Investigators look for motive and opportunity when probing a crime. There was plenty of opportunity here, but no motive. No one in this situation gains any sort of advantage by shooting down a civilian airliner. If one of the warring parties did shoot down this plane, they face public outrage and diplomatic isolation. Hardly the makings of success.
This is the fog of war. Someone blundered. Sad mistakes are an inevitable part of war. (Although, not thoroughly vetting the target qualifies as negligence… Shoot first, ask questions later.)
The illegals weren’t even on the front page of our local Lee Enterprises rag. Nothing that makes Obama look like a putz makes it there.
As VDH might say, this shoot down is an example of Obama’s chickens coming home to roost. And there will be 2 + more years of this.
If I were Prime Minister of Malaysia, with Ukrainian cooperation, I would send a couple battalions of paratroopers and SAS (trained to Brithish standards, BTW) into eastern Ukraine to sieze the crash site, capturing or killing as many of the Russian rebels/mercanaries as possible. Survivors would be brought to Malaysia for war crimes trials before their execution.
Just musing here,,,
Someone else mentioned Clinton and an Aspirin factory.
What if it wasn’t a missile or a fighter intercept?
Who else is up to his eyeballs in crap, scandals, and likely grounds for impeachment?
Who would love to pin a civilian disaster like this on the Russians.
Who would benefit from this disaster?
I have no idea.
Not one of us, that’s for sure.
They already sent the black box to Pootin, Malaysians will get results and full access to all the documentation sometime after Pootin transfers to Poland all the documentation from the Tu-154 crash where Kaczysnki died.
Wonder if they will plough that field too? Pretty big area lots of ploughing.
President Barack Obama’s refusal to visit the U.S.-Texas border, followed by a beer drinking, pool-shooting session with the governor of Colorado, proves the commander-in-chief has no soul, veteran GOP political consultant Mary Matalin says.
“I’ve known and have worked with … many politicians and they have a soul. I keep looking for this man’s soul and I can’t find it. ” Matalin told “The Steve Malzberg Show” Thursday on Newsmax TV.
Former President Bill Clinton has weighed in on the Malaysian airliner downing. He finds it sickening. Of course he is most touched by the deaths of the AIDS researchers as this is one of his causes and he is a scheduled speaker at the Melbourne conference. He at least sounds human.
Remember how they mocked Palin mercilessly, and Romney?
