  1. I love the foozeball table in the photo.
This may be off-topic, but what happened to Five Feet of Fury? It’s been offline for a couple of days now.

  2. Ice Fishing in july?
    Thank you Algore.
(You can use two rods standing on the flow and one if you get back in the boat)

  3. Question to the group: Do the rules pertaining to boating saftey extend to drinking on an iceberg in Lake Superior?

  4. It’s actually against the law to drink on the ice while icefishing.
The police turn a blind eye to discreet drinking on the ice (inside huts), unless you’re being loud, driving snowmobiles and ATVs and leaving empties everywhere they don’t usually bother you, yet.
Guaranteed if the people in that picture had open beers they would be ticketed and fined for everything.
I’ve had MNR sniffer dogs go through our gear twice now while ice fishing with no probable cause.
The first time the dog destroyed the venison sausage on top after I warned the 3 MNR and one OPP that it was likely about to be destroyed.
“Allowing game to spoil” was the only law broken that day.

  5. In related news …. there was a swim event on Lake Ontario scheduled for today. According to Sun News …. because of sudden drop in water temperature.
    Sudden.

  6. Name the next one ALLEY
Dr. Richard Alley is a Penn State professor, … book author, polar ice expert, bicycle enthusiast … based on his meticulous study of ice cores from Greenland

  7. Buoy position: 47.57N 86.55W Near Caribou Island Lake Superior, Air temp 7, water temp 3, no need to wonder why some ice has not melted yet. Not much chance of more warming in the next 50 days either. This coming winter will be the same or worse. Living near the big refrigerator called Gitche Gumee.

  8. Warmer = always better for the northern hemisphere. No need to postulate further on that.

  9. Perfect ‘ice mattress’ for a polar bear’s summertime fun, as they too like vacations. Gitche Gumee is a southern ‘hot spot’ destination for Arctic dwellers.
‘Tis also true, that being dropped, all bloodied on city dwellers heads in some far away city is exhausting work.

  10. // We should name icebergs still floating in Lake Superior in July after infamous AGW scientists. This one is Gavin //

Great name. Just don’t call it an iceberg.

  11. Please do not call these floes “icebergs”. If icebergs DO show up in Gitche Gumee,we are soooooooo fubared as we would be in the next major ice age,and the lake would be under a mile of solid glacier anyways.

  12. Yes, but in BC, we’ve just been told we are in immediate danger of catastrophic flooding on the Fraser River due to catastrophic climate change.
Because its never flooded before, of course, dontcha know?
Also, just received some taxppayer funded crap from NDP Garrison, Gay MP from Esquimalt, nattering on, as well, about “runaway” climate change…..is this the Dips strategy? Scaremongering? Oh, yeah, its all about the Low Information Voter. Mind you, if it means fighting with the Dauphin Liberals, so be it!

  13. No problem. Yours was a better comment.
What we need around here is a couple of Newfoundlanders to explain bergy bits & the like.
Years ago on this hallowed venue some “old arctic hand” refuted my comment that first-year arctic ice was weak because it was salty by claiming that he had been given drinks with iceberg ice & it wasn’t salty at all.
