Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What They Say About SDA

"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
Walmart is a successful retailer. The New York Times is a failing newspaper.
I wish more people and businesses would push back at the lying jackals of the media!
The blogger missed the oppotunity to respond to that tiresome cliche’ “corporate overlords” in the 5th paragraph.
What Tooner and OMMAG said.
Shared this on FB today.
And “Starbucks” said?
LOVE it!!!
Apparently the NYT published the original story as is, no corrections.
The faster it goes bankrupt, the better.
This makes me giddy. Statism advances largely because its targets do not act to defend themselves. Too bad Wal-Mart went downhill so badly Superstore is way better now.
I’m sure the New York Times pays their paperboys top dollar.
Good On Walmart. The times must related to the Toronto Star right..?? Both screaming Left wing RAGS not worth wiping ones arse with.
stk
NY TImes should have tried reading this Washington Examiner article comparing the coverage ObamaCare enrolees receive compared to that of Walmart employees. The coverage is better, premiums lower as well as lower deductibles. But noooo, must go with the liberal meme that WalMart is evil.
http://washingtonexaminer.com/surprise-walmart-health-plan-is-cheaper-offers-more-coverage-than-obamacare/article/2541670
Very well done.
Perhaps this template (humourously correcting liberal media) will be repeated.
Stock prices are adjusted for dividends and splits. NYT on June 23, 1984 $5.08 closed today at $15.36. Compounded rate of return 3.75%. Wal-Mart on June 23 1984 $0.94 closed today at $75.79. Compounded rate of return 15.75% The DOW did 8.9%, the TSX did 6.6%
Money talks and BS walks.
I made a comment that got caught in the spam filter. I assume Because I mentioned corporate names. I will make the point again without mentioning names.
I would bet that Walmarts pay and conditions of employment are no different than anyone else in retail trade, from mom and pop corner stores to the corporate giants.
Walmart got picked on because it is successful. The leftards don’t want a corporation to be successful as that would go against their socialist agenda. After retirement I worked at Walmart part time for a few years. Some of the staff were long time employees and others just there for a time. I noticed that some of the employees probably would not have a job at all if it were not for Walmart hiring them.
The economic success of Walmart certainly does NOT bode well for the future of America. The “walmartification” of the American economy is a symptom of its decadence and rot. But not for the reasons stated by the dimwit socialist journo from the NYT.
Decades ago you used to have actual things made in America, and the American economy drew its might from its economic production, with good jobs for the American people. Not anymore. We have assisted in the last two decades to the complete destruction of the PRODUCTION-based American economy and its replacement with an economy of CONSUMPTION of worthless Chinese garbage.
The Keynesians in both the Democrat and the Republican parties believe that they can prop up an economy only with CONSUMPTION. Politicians from both parties believe the economy will go fine if they keep borrowing money from China to give to the impoverished populace via food stamps in order to stimulate consumption of Chinese made goods in the US. Of course it will not end well.
But you can hardly blame a business like Walmart for this state of affairs. Like any business it is just trying to make more money. It is the corrupt politicians in both the Democrat and the Republican parties that are to blame. Nothing wrong with a job at a place like Walmart but decades ago these jobs were intended for school kids. Now it is all you can aspire to in the land of the free.
Walmart is a crap place to work for but so is every other retailer. Not a lot of Harvard grads work there but it is a steady workplace for unskilled labour and they do have a health benefits package, at least in Canada.
Blade Runner was obviously a nonfiction movie.
My stepson worked at walmart when he was younger, according to him the wages were average for the type of work and the stock options were top notch. Try harder scar, just because its a non union shop doesn’t make it a crap place to work.
Rather than present this as helpful edit to “ensure something inaccurate doesn’t get published”, I might have been inclined to say:
“Tim, I want to alert you to something some idiot wrote and signed your name to. I suggest you track him down and stop him from making you look like a fool.”
It could be worse. In the article ‘the’ and ‘and’ were sometimes used correctly.
