Rev. Jesse Jackson plans to lead a delegation to the Hewlett Packard annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday to bring attention to Silicon Valley’s poor record of including blacks and Latinos in hiring, board appointments and startup funding.
Jackson’s strategy borrows from the traditional civil rights era playbook of shaming companies to prod them into transformation. Now he is bringing it to the age of social media and a booming tech industry known for its disruptive innovation.
Just what one of the few shining lights in America’s economy needs, eh?!

Maybe he should be going to young blacks to encourage them to stay in school so that they have the skill sets to work in the hi-tech world of Silicon Valley.
It depends on what you mean by minorities. It appears there is a hierarchy now, and Asians for example don’t count anymore. California has an anti discrimination law that the democrats want to overturn. The law prevents Universities from admitting based on affirmative action / race. Asian democrats are afraid that their children will be put aside in favour of other minorities, so the dems can’t get the votes.
Black is in big time this year. If Harper was smart he’d go collect a bunch of black people from downtown Toronto or somewhere and stick them around him in Parliament.
Black definitely trumps Justin Trudeau’s turban wearing Sheiks coming into the next Canadian election if you’re savvy to the trends.

I’ve seen a lot of computer science classes in my day, and they are overflowing with minorities, if you call Asians a minority.
Don’t know what Silicon Valley is supposed to do about that.
In California, asians are considered white for race-based purposes.
This is all smoke and mirrors. This is how Jessie makes his money. He goes in with a lot of hoopla and press conferences decrying racism and ends up with a nice fat check in his pocket and vague promises from the racist company to hire and promote more minorities. Works every time.
I’d be happier if Messy Jessie and his horde of extortionists went after all those upscale White/Asian communities and made them put in some halfway houses and low income housing. Nothing would shut all those Bay Area hypocrites up quicker than some Central Valley style thug dumps.
Jesse Jackson is one of the big reasons there are still racists around. Same for Sharpton and Holder, and Obama …. and most of his non white posse. They make it hard to like them when they just keep beating that drum and calling us racists …. it becomes a self fulfilling condition. When a whole bunch of black faces in powerful positions continually vilify white people and lie to our faces about EVERYTHING! over and over again …. Then you tend to get out the brush and start painting them all the same … then they are no longer individuals, but rather, the enemy. Race wars are coming in the USA because of people like Jackson.
Black people would get hired in Silicon Valley if they went to school and became computer code developers, hardware designers, electrical engineers, and perhaps had an MBA and understood technology etc. But in the Jackson/Obama world, showing up should be reason enough to hired a black person. That works in government jobs, but in high tech … not so much.

I’ve been wondering how long it would take for the racial grievance industry to start shaking down Silicon Valley. Up until now they’ve target easier prey like government, police and fire departments, etc, but have largely allowed the tech industries to flourish and allow the best to grow as they wish.
Anyone who has even peripheral dealings with the place can’t help but notice that it is overwhelmingly white and Asian, many of whom are immigrants, blacks and Latinos are scarce. Apparently America’s inner cities aren’t producing many ambitious technology geniuses (who knew)?

The end result of Jackson’s activism might be the end of Silicon Valley.There’s nothing keeping those companies in California, they can relocate.

Jaeger and robw put their fingers on the real reason there are so few blacks and latinos in Silicon Valley. Lack of qualification. SV companies have scoured the world for talent, if there was any in the inner cities of Cleveland, Philadelphia, L.A. and the like they would have found it and hired everyone. There’s another story at the link complaining about Canadian tech talent being poached by Silicon Valley.
HP, Google, Apple and the rest should offer to fund and run schools in black neighborhoods designed to equip grads with the skills to get into the big tech universities. That won’t be acceptable, of course, so they’ll simply throw money at the approved organizations and you’ll pay another $10 for your next iPad or XBox to cover.
If the vig gets too high then per Don Morris, they’ll just move the whole shebang to Singapore.
Jackson is a complete idiot to say the least. But I don’t feel sorry for any of the Valley companies. The Valley long ago went far left on the political spectrum, and so now they can lie in the beds they have made.
This is the thing with the left: they never think about the consequences of their dumb ideas.
So Silicon Valley can have Jackson. I hope he moves there and hounds them every day of this life with his stupid ideas. They deserve it.
This is not the first time that Jesse Jackson has tried to shake down Silicon Valley. Back in 1999, Cypress Semiconductor CEO TJ Rogers likened Jackson to “a seagull that flies around leaving droppings.”

Whites have been a minority in California for more than a decade, and either have or are about to become the second-most-populous race, behind Latinos/Hispanics/whatever we’re calling them this week.
I find this whole thing funny as all get out. You must remember, much of (Silicon Valley) is run & own by libs.

If the outfits in Silicon Valley weren’t run by leftist flakes, I can imagine them pointing out the lack of “diversity” in the NBA and demanding that 5’2″ Jewish basketball players be equitably represented. Also, they should take issue with the lack of white heavyweight boxing champions and demand that Russian and Ukrainian boxers be given a chance to show the current crop of “victors” what true boxing is like.
The sad truth for imbecilic brainless individuals such as Jesse Jackson is that intelligence and skill are the primary grounds whereby tech companies chose their workers. There are reasons why Detroit isn’t a world center in code development and, if current trends in the US continues, all code and hardware development will become the sole purview of Asians and Russians. Lots of coders in India, but they rarely rise to the heights of the elite.
The tech industry is the last true meritocracy in the world. No one cares about the color of your skin or how rarely you bathe as long as you can crank out good quality code; preferably in volume. To get to this rarified level of competency, one has to live, breath and dream in code. This almost immediately cuts out female programmers as very few women get into coding to the degree that young males do. When I first got into coding, it was a rather lonely pursuit but now geekiness is cool. Still, 45 years ago, there were small groups of us who would spend nights at the data center hiding from our parents who though we should come home once every 24 hours or so let alone going to school.
Hackers are born, not made, and through some human genetic quirk the vast majority of hackers tend to be male and white or Asian. There are some incredible hackers in former E. European Russian satellites as well as Russia and most Russian programmers I’ve known have been immediately snapped up by Vancouver companies even though they were still working out how to communicate in English.
US black culture is antithetical to the hacker ethic. In conformance to other welfare cultures around the world, any success beyond the bare necessity to pick up ones welfare check is frowned upon and transgressors beaten until they fall in line. Perhaps Jesse Jackson would be advised to address this deficiency of the black culture but in doing so he would no longer have anyone to stand up for.
This f-er came to our company a while back. He’s got a few of the higher ups spooked.
You never hear him complain that his pilot and co-pilot aren’t black. Affirmative action would kill the airline industry faster than terrorism ever could.
