Backwards!

From an Edmonton Journal report about the most urbane, progressive premier in Alberta’s history:

Premier Alison Redford signalled Monday she wants to repair strained relations with Alberta’s big cities, revive faith in her progressive agenda…

40 Replies to “Backwards!”

  1. More spending on the way, but no mention of revenue (more taxes? bigger deficits?)

  2. Nah – she will just rape the oil patch like any good commie f-tard would. After all, it worked so well with ‘Fast Eddie’ Stelmach…

  3. I left Alberta in 1995 … moved the the Island for the better weather … i hated leaving Alberta with Ralph as Premier, but Glen Clarke (corrupt fake commie) in power here ….
But NOW! I can barely believe that Calgary has a muslim mayor …. Edmonton is becoming Moscow with no line ups for toilet paper or beef tongue. And with the ultra progressive douche bag as premier ….. well …. pig CAN fly and Alberta is doomed.

  4. So why did people vote for her when they had a perfectly good alternative? Yes, the alternative was a bit rough around the edges here and there, but what new political party is not a bit rough around the edges? Wild Rose was still way better than socialist Redford.
    Voters can be complete idiots.
Ontario voters have already committed themselves to an eternity of socialism and wasted taxpayer dollars, mark my word they will never put in a Conservative premier again – they have fallen off the cliff, like California has fallen off the cliff.
BC is teetering on the edge. Next election will likely be NDP. Last election would have been NDP except the NDP couldn’t get out of the way of their own dumb ideas. It was the NDP’s election to win, which is a depressing thought in of itself.
But Alberta??? I always thought Albertans were a smart bunch. It makes no sense that they would vote in Redford, hence my conclusion that many voters are simply idiots.

  5. …sorry that should have read “It was the NDP’s election to lose…”
    Now pass the coffee…

  6. Well BC the point of fact is that the WR was not and is not a ‘perfectly good alternative’. I voted for them but I can well understand why others did not and it has nothing to do with the anti-gay or supposedly racist comments made by a few WR candidates. The WR unfortunately has the feel of an artificial construct and not a genuine grass roots movement. A few big money boys from Calgary decided that they should take over a floundering party and they did. They imposed a leader based on her looks and media savvy instead of her sense of direction and purpose. In the mean time the PCs had a lot of residual good will extending back to the time of Ralf and even farther back to Peter and they were able to get RedFraud though the election cycle unscathed. Unfortunately the PCs are not the party of Ralf anymore and the average Albertan is quite POed at the corruption that now occupies the dome. My biggest hope is that the WR gets a clue and actually proposes a plan to move Alberta forward because so far they have simply played the ‘We’re not the PCs’ game.

  7. Joe the Wildrose Alliance party was in its 10th year of exitance during the 2012 election.
I was around in the early years and it was a lot of hard work to build up and get any credibility.
It took a long time before we got any of the boys to contribute real donations. The party was very organic and it didn’t just spring up overnight.

  8. Well, I voted Wildrose, and actually have a Wildrose MLA. Kind of disenchanted with Danielle Smith over her seeming endorsement of the AGW fraud. But I will probably vote for them, come next election, as the least-worst option.
And, nobody had ever even heard of Redford, before she became head of the PC’s.
And surely the Redmonton Urinal could have have found a more flattering photo of Smith for their graphic. The damned bias is so transparent.

  9. If I recall correctly Don Braid of the Calgary Herald was disciplined for coining the term “Special Ed.”

  10. Paul >
“It took a long time before we got any of the boys to contribute real donations”.
I still support the WRP, but I made the mistake of making a largish donation once and their conduct for more money has bordered on harassment!
I have told them flat out that they have lost all financial support from me because we were way past the F*ck Off don’t ever call me again point – and they still KEEP CALLING!
I’ll continue to vote WRP for now, simply because there’s no other alternative to the door kicking, gun grabbing party of the RCMP.

  11. No Paul the WR began as a fringe group of looney tunes that had zero credibility. Yes they were disillusioned souls trying frantically to get a movement going but until the money boys in Calgary got mad at Special Ed the WR was not a serious contender. Unlike the Reform party that had a clear goal the WR was a home for malcontents and loons. Don’t get me wrong I have been trying to get rid of the PCs since the selection of Special Ed and the WR has by default been my choice BUT that does not mean that I can’t offer my explanation as to why they lost the last election. When the WR comes up with some clear policies apart from being ‘gay friendly’ they will win quite handily especially now that RedFraud is handing them the victory wrapped up with the pretty bow of PC corruption. Nevertheless I would still like to see a clear vision for Alberta advanced by the WR.

  12. Is that rather large woman wearing red an RCMP officer? If so, no wonder they want to confiscate all the guns. There’s no way that Mama could dodge a bullet. I’ll bet she got in on an affirmative action program.

  13. WRT the earlier comment – “Voters can be complete idiots.”
    This one takes the prize:
News item: “LOST CHURCHES OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY ”
When devastating hurricanes struck the East Coast, even houses of worship were not spared.
A local television station interviewed a woman from New York’s Harlem area and asked how the loss of churches in the area had affected their lives.
Without hesitation, the woman replied, “I don’t know ’bout all them other peoples, but we haven’t gone to Churches in years. We gets our chicken from Popeye’s.”
The look on the interviewer’s face was priceless.
Now you understand how Americans got their president.

  14. BC >
“It makes no sense that they would vote in Redford…….”
The Redfraud has been vocally engaged in bringing in every third world dead beat that she can muster. That’s the “Progressive” UN agenda in her political manifesto.
Among others like Mayor Nishii who has actively and personally campaigned in Toronto to “change the face of Calgary” there’s no wonder that Alberta is finally doing the totalitarian tip toe with the rest of the world’s Socialist engineers bent on destroying western values and culture.

  15. I think the major reason Albertans voted for the less than right wing Allison R is because so many of them were newly transplanted immigrants from such jurisdictions as BC and Ontario. Once in the privacy of the polling booth, they simply voted for what seemed familiar to them. Short of the economy hitting rock bottom, or some equally devastating whack upside the head, it’s unclear how a leftward trend can be reversed.

  16. But it was a fringe party cut from the old Social Credit crowd. It didn’t do much and Ralph was seen as good enough amongst the hardcore conservatives.
The Wildrose Party was taken over by big oil when Stelmach raised royalties in 2009. That’s when the money started pouring in. Even though they talk about small donor grass roots stuff, it didn’t really go until they got mass money from somewhere and installed Danielle Smith as their lead singer.
The reason the PC’s got another kick at the can in 2012 was…
#1. Alison Redford was given the benefit of the doubt.
#2. Yahoo candidates did the old Reform-era sabotage thing talking about gays and non-whites.
#3. Leftists switched their votes from NDP and Liberal to PC in order to stop Wildrose.
#4.Wildrose didn’t lose by much. They lost a lot of seats by less than 1000 votes.

  17. Good summary Jeff,
    One you missed:
#5. No one predicted in their wildest dreams that Redfraud would use the RCMP to attack a political rivals voting base much like Obamba used the IRS to do in the US.

  18. It does seem to be the way of things. Once an area becomes profitable and expanding, the influx of workers from less prosperous areas occurs and like the brain dead, they then vote to make where they are, like the cess-pit that they left. Once it’s pointed out to them, some go “You’re right” and make a change, most just glaze over and robot like vote for their on demise.

  19. The truly mystifying part of this whole discussion is the belief that voting actually matters.

  20. “…I think the major reason Albertans voted for the less than right wing Allison R is because so many of them were newly transplanted immigrants from such jurisdictions as BC and Ontario.”
    Heee, heee, heee………
And here I was, thinkin’ all along that Redford’s majority was just a sign that, despite the Stetsons and Boulet boots, the average Albertan is about as rugged and independent an individual as a BC teacher or an Ottawa civil servant.

  21. As far as I am concerned, the political needle has been slowing moving left across North America, and it has been doing so for some time. Occasionally there is a small dose of sunshine and a conservative party or candidate wins here or there, but on the balance the needle is trending left.
Leftist ideas are idiotic ideas, hence my conclusion that most voters are idiots. And if they are not idiots then they are wealthy left wing creeps who seek to exploit the system for their own gains: Al Gore, Soros, all of Hollywood and Silicon Valley, you name it…
Look at the last US election, Obama vs. Romney. Politics rarely if ever produces perfect choices in candidates, but Obama winning over Romney, are you kidding me??? That surely has to be a definitive tipping point in favor of the idiots.
The educational system, which has been in decline for about 30 years, has played a large role in producing idiotic voters. This is by design. Youngsters today are not taught to take chances or be adventurous, that is considered a very negative trait today and children must be cleansed of such leanings. They are not taught to think for themselves, and instead are taught to follow the left wing agenda and ignore facts. It is a very deliberate tactic by those who run the schools. When I see the leftist crap my kids have to learn, and the brainwashing, and the emphasis on things that will do little to help them succeed, I nearly lose my mind.
Ontario as far as I am concerned has already tipped never to return to sensible government again. The USA has probably tipped, although there might still be a glimmer of hope. California has certainly well and truly tipped.
Looks like Alberta is following the trend….depressing.

  22. In short, a majority of Albertans were stupid. And ignoramuses.
Voting for a party because you’ve voted for it before is extremely stupid.
But most Canadians would vote for Obama if they had the chance.

  23. It’s all over Alberta.
Here a local community college PROMOTED one manager… because too many people were quittng on him… another one today!

  24. I get all the Alberta government infomation releases and there isn’t a day go by that I am not angry at something. The spin doctoring of the information is beyond reason. What is it with Lawyers that they think the rest of us are stupid and don’t know what is actually going on?
Alberta is now going down the road of deficit/debt financing but most Albertans want us to pay for our own bills when they are due. My kids generation isn’t going to be in a position to pay for this stuff and we don’t want them to either. If Redford wants to pursue these spending initiatives, the least she can do is adjust taxes to pay for it all.
As for Danielle, she is my MLA and I would vote for her again. I wasn’t sure at the time about her desire to review the RCMP mandate but after High River, I was dead wrong and she was right.

  25. I predict Redfor will be spending billions in taxpayer dollars and borrowed dollars to shore up her popularity. This could get ugly.

  26. To give the votes the benefit of the doubt, most people don’t pay that much attention to politics. People who have always voted conservative still voted conservative without realizing that leftists had hijacked the party.
What will be disappointing is if Redford manages to maintain leadership of the party.
There will always be commies about and I think they knew they would never get into power as commies, so they pretended to be conservatives and hijacked the party. When they achieved power their true nature came out. It is up to the party to get rid of them.

  27. Up thread a commentator suggested that the North American political needle was moving steadily leftward. Which is true.
The problem seems to be that there is a lack of focus on the conservative side of the fence. Conservatives are apparently easily distracted by social issues like gays. Once they are taken off message it is pretty easy to roll them up with a lot of invective about “hate” and nastiness.
At the same time, the core conservative issue of a small, competent and shrinking government committed to reducing first deficits, then debt and then taxes could win a lot of support if conservative candidates and leaders stuck to their knitting.
Just once I would like to see a conservative leader say on First Nations – government is the problem, prosperity the solution. On Immigration – no more low skill immigrants until every Canadian is working. On gay marriage – whatever, let’s reduce the deficit.
Redford is just a manifestation of the sheer intellectual laziness and policy indecision of conservatives in Alberta.

  28. All the Sask. conservatives who left here for Alberta when we were being oppressed by the NDP are coming home in droves. My daughter and her family are moving back this spring and my son wants to as soon as his contract expires. Four more conservative voters for the next election, four less in Alberta.

  29. “I made the mistake of making a largish donation once and their conduct for more money has bordered on harassment!”
Same experience here. The whole comment pretty much has/is happening to me.
I’ve begun to wonder if this is actually another party which has gotten ahold of the WRP donators list and is doing this harassment to turn off donations\voters.
During the last election the PCs were doing harassment robocalls in WRP’s name and infiltrating moles into doorknocking teams so that they could talk shit to the voters on their door steps during the last week of campaigning.

  30. Oz >
You know, that theory might be plausible, I just couldn’t imagine any sane conservative party I would want to vote for conducting themselves the way they have with donors.
I clearly told them that I support them and will donate when I see fit without solicitation and if they continued to call, including harass my wife when I wasn’t home as they have done I’d never contribute again. They kept calling.

  31. “Premier’s approval rating has ‘dropped off a cliff,’ survey finds.”
Just imagine, if we were Japan she’d do the honorable thing and jump off a bridge into the N. Saskatchewan River of something akin.

  32. BC, it also does not help that so many easterners have moved in complete with their progressive voting habits.

  33. I’ve been thinking (for quite a while now) of having some bumper stickers printed up that read “Welcome to Alberta. Now turn around and get out.”

  34. “…many easterners have moved in complete with their progressive voting habits.”
    Joe Clark was an “easterner”?
    Who’d a thunk it?

  35. Redfords teary post QP yesterday was a joke. She rambled on about having to miss time with her daughter and her friends…boo frickin hoo.
In the Herald it was reported that Princess Allison has not contributed to her own party monetarily since her $629.00 in 2010.
Over half of party is not signing up for get out and fund raising plan.
I for one hope the Red queen stays on till the next election, for she is a gift for the Wild Rose. As a Conservative watching Albertans allow their province slip into a Liberal, bureaucratic wasteland is sad, especially since there are few places left in the world where small government, fiscal prudence, low regulatory regime exists.
Keep up the good work Ally, you soon will be handing a resume to the UN.
