Sun News: As the Canadian Taxpayers Federation points out, that means the [Ontario] provincial debt is now rising at the rate of almost $1 billion a month ($978.6 million), $225.8 million per week, $32.17 million per day, $1.34 million per hour, $22,342 per minute or $372 per second.

I truly believe that a lot of Ontario voters were dropped on the head at birth. Now as long as the rest of free Canada doesn’t vote for the Trudeau Jr, things should be ok.
According to the Torstar, Ernie Eves running a POTENTIAL $6B deficit (if he did nothing to address it) was the worst disaster in Ontario’s history, absolutely requiring the election of liar McGuinty. What say they now? Yes, many of us Ontarions were dropped on their heads, it’s a qualification to belong to the teachers union. Look at the latest polls, the Libs are ahead federally, in spite of Canada having the most robust economy in the 1st world, and likely a zero deficit this year. When the single most important issue is whether Duffy took advantage of a loophole in the rules, I think other provinces have the same head drop issue.
lots of chatter about Federal budget this is an interesting site

Debt service the 3rd largest (and fastest growing) spending program, now CAD 10.6 bln a year…. one can’t help but wonder what happens if (when) interest rates, er, normalize? It’s not just zombie banks that are addicted to the financial crack being distributed by central banks around the world – governments are hooked even harder. Though, at least banks have a much more difficult time financing their habit by confiscating your wealth. It may be time for Ontarians to start thinking about moving to Saskatoon!
#Wynneing needs to become a trending Twitter hashtag.
Apparently, the answer for the Ontario government and the governments of all other have-not provinces is to revamp the Equalization program. Remove the cap. Factor in age. Account for population density. Somehow, someway increase payments for us so we can continue to spend, spend, spend.
To be fair, I can see the necessity of Equalization for the Atlantic provinces. With the exception of Nfld., they don’t have much to work with in terms of resources and industry. Manitoba, Quebec and Ontario, OTOH, have the same advantages as the western provinces. Like Sask in the recent past, they have chosen poorly when it comes to politics. Increasing payments only allows them to continue to choose poorly because the wealthier provinces make up the difference. This removes the incentive to to make better economic decisions.
Every party does the same when in power…only worse!
You can keep the commie Ontarians in Ontario. We have enough commie NDP ers in Saskatchewan as it is … we don’t need more.
Don’t forget to factor in the Ontario hydro’s massive debt and the whole fiasco of renewable energy OPG debt.
The former economic engine of Canada, now a have not province and accelerating down the slippery slope.
Might as well just rename it “Detroit”.
yet the rainbow flag at trona city hall ( and now at nenshi house– of course) gets the most attention
cal2, yup and there is the problem
even in here, the SDA’rs, go nutz when abortion, gay rites and atheism hits the proverbial “kristian” fan. Priorities are screwed up, and as Phantom and I have said, it’s not the leaders we need worry about, it’s the voters
You’re entitled to not believe whatever you want.
set U flee
ever hear of “context” and/or “venue”
it’s about time the religious patrol started to exercise the same discretion they want others to use
U see, I may not agree/disagree with certain things, but I don’t necessarily feel the need to harp on them out of context, try grasping that concept
It’s as if they are banking on massive inflation caused by their American friends
to render Canada’s currency and Ontario’s debt worthless so they will essentially
pay off creditors just like Zimbabwe does.
Homophobic SDAer’s are a minority…just like the rest of society. Every village has their idiot though.
it’s about time the religious patrol started to exercise the same discretion they want others to use
U see, I may not agree/disagree with certain things, but I don’t necessarily feel the need to harp on them out of context, try grasping that concept
Yes, because things like ‘thou shall not kill’ and ‘thou shall not steal’ need to be put into proper context, don’t ya know. Anyone who harps on these is of course a religious fanatic.
You don’t? You’re STUCK on ‘Christianity.’
Get a grip.
Priorities are screwed up…
Not according to John Adams…
“Because we have no government, armed with power, capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge and licentiousness would break the strongest cords of our Constitution, as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
But, of course, Don Quixote knows way more than he…
You make some good points, but when you deliberately misspell Christian and put it in quotes the way you did, you’re repeating the thinly-veiled contempt that many Christians face every day. We get it. You’re an atheist.
If your comments didn’t have these uncalled-for slurs in them, I’m sure your posts wouldn’t receive as much pushback as they do; I know I find the meat and potatoes content of your comments usually enlightening, Christian-bashing aside.
Learn from Kate; as I understand it, she may be an atheist or agnostic (although I’m not totally sure) but she never belittles Christians. It’s called knowing your audience.
That, and giving respect to receive it.
Yup. When you’re sinking at the speed of light, there’s only one thing to do….Accelerate!

Don’t forget the “joo” obsession.
“To be fair, I can see the necessity of Equalization for the Atlantic provinces.”
Equalization is socialism. Taking the fruits of one person’s labor and giving it to another is immoral.
The oil and gas belong to the people of Alberta and except for the labor of Albertans it stays in the ground. To take it and give it to Easterners or anyone else is wrong.
I’m with you in that sentiment Doug. For many in Saskatchewan the red stain remains just below the surface and all it would take to bring it back to the surface would be a downturn in the current buoyant economy. As we can see in the south it doesn’t take much for people to be sucked into the false promises of socialism and to abandon the ideas of being responsible for yourself.
The seeming love affair with Trudeau Junior overwhelmingly proves how stupid the voters of this country are. What happened in BC and Ontario is proof of this.
And let them go broke I say…totally, completely and utterly broke.
Perhaps then Ontario voters will learn their lesson.
Real poverty, has a way of focusing ones attention.
When good times roll, taxpayers tolerate do-gooders generosity with other peoples money.
When the loot is gone, the looted get even.
Owe Owe Ontario.
I keep thinking a new internal border at the 49th parallel would sort out the kleptocrats real quick.
Time for the next province, Lowest Canada. Or Owest Canada
Perhaps the 47th would do it.
Anything that combines Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal will be good.
I would like at this time, in view of the ever increasing Ontario government deficit, to relate an interesting and important confluence of events. Namely the coldest winter in twenty years, and a tripling in the price of propane in Ontario.
Now, normally a liter of propane goes for about 45 cents. That’s what it went for last winter, and we barely burned any because it was warm most of the time. Heating bills roughly $400.00/month.
Right now, the price is $1.008/liter. People around here are going through the usual 500 gallon tank in four weeks. That’s pretty close to two thousand bucks a month, for easy counting. 500 gallons = 1892 liters equals ~$1892.00
Oh, plus HST. Yeah, they charge tax on heating fuel. $1892.00 x 13%HST is $245.96. Anybody hear Kim Dong Wynne talking about temporarily suspending the HST on heating fuel to give people a 13% break on their suddenly catastrophic heating bills this winter?
Nope. Because why? Because people heating with propane are all RURAL, and all vote CONSERVATIVE. If it was natural gas price gone sky high, and all the Liberal voters ion the city were getting crushed with $2k/month heating bills, would we hear about some kind of tax relief from HST for the duration of the emergency? I think we might.
Guess what uses up a ton of heating fuel? CHICKEN FARMS. Egg farms, hatcheries, chicken farms, they all use PROPANE to heat those big-@ss barns. Right now a bunch of farmers are doing their sums, figuring out if its cheaper to heat the barn or let the chickens die and start over in the spring. Deciding if they can re-start in the spring, or if this is the straw that broke the camel’s back and they’re out of the chicken biz.
Guess what is going to be real f-ing expensive in about three to six months? Eggs and chickens. Also pork, because hog barns use propane, and also beef and milk/cheese etc. because the heavy winter down south killed off an awful large number of cattle, and even more were let out to slaughter rather than heat the barns. Because -propane-.
Could be worse though. They could be heating with electricity. That could get pricey.
Are the Liberal voters in the city going to scream when chicken hits $20/lb? Beef hits $20/lb? Bacon hits $15.00 a package? And you can’t buy an Egg McMuffin because there’s no freakin’ eggs to be had for any money, because all the chickens are dead?
Yeah, they are going to scream. You think they’ll blame Kim Dong Wynne? Not a chance.
Deficits go UP, taxes go UP, prices go UP, jobs go DOWN.
Personally, I’m burning wood. $125 a face cord, delivered. Cheap like borcht. Y’all remember the discussion we had the other day about insurance companies and fire places, and how “expensive” it was to get things WETT certified?
I made all my money back already in propane I didn’t burn.
I’m seriously thinking “gas well” for next year, too. At $500 a week for propane heat, a gas well is looking pretty handy right about now. FYI, if you have a decent gas well you can run a really big generator off it, giving you heat AND electricity. Electric lead casting pot, anyone? Or you could go gas fired.
The chosen premier of Ontario Wynne/Wynnemill wants a mere $641 million from the federal budget, apparently she thinks Ontario has been short changed on the Equalization score. She just doesn’t seem to get it,when in debt you quit spending and quit making promises that will add to the debt.
She thinks she can continue to practice McGuinty economics and hold onto power at the expense of all Canadians, I say goodnight Kathleen, good luck with that one, Flaherty knows your game.
Ontario has a dismal leadership vacuum on all sides of the house. To me this speaks volumes about the political climate in Ontario – primarily that the governing/bureaucratic systems are so thoroughly ossified by corruption and dystopian agendas, and the political media is so predatory partisan that no truly successful professional would leave private sector success to be attracted to Queens park politics.
Hudak has no workable vision to stop the deindustrialization and Horwath is as blank as Wynn about resource based industry in the north. This is a completely ineffective Opposition because they are as blank as the empty-suit liberals. Ontario is doomed – find another jurisdiction to finish up yu career or retire in because Ontario will be picking every pocket it can find to fend off a Detroit style insolvency.
There is lots of blame to around both provincial and federal.
In 2013 Canada lost 33,000 manufacturing jobs alone, mostly off-shored to never return.
A place like Hamilton for example, had two massive employers one company now closed Stelco the other scaled back. This has been going on for years, and it gets worse with each government(consecutive and liberal). They seem to have a failed Ideology, passing one free trade bill after another. Without understanding that we need fair trade not free trade (how can you have free trade with places void of environmental standards and employ slave labor) understanding that businesses wants and needs may not be in the best interest of Canada. The conservative government just signed the TPP or tras-pacific partnership agreement behind closed doors.
This bill will further accelerate the the shedding of Canadian factories and jobs. It contains provisions to do away with many of our rights we now enjoy. It took wikileaks to tell us how bad this bill truly is. My biggest fear is the conservative government will come out with a balanced budget. This has been accomplished through massive money printing like the world has never seen, some thing no one ever points out. Like with any government they will use this money in other failed ventures creating even more debt. We need a massive restructuring to turn things around .A gold standard is a good place to start, which would restrict all this outrageous money printing, and spending. Government that works for Canada, and not the international corporations. A police force that we can respect as they arrest all these international bankers because of their money theft.
I can dream
Its time to stop the transfer payments.
Corrupt and deeply indebted government, high energy costs, state-disincentivised workers, and militant unions are all factors which, if all four were otherwise, one could see a possible manufacturing future for Ontario. As things now stand, the South side of the international Bridge leaving Windsor is Ontario’s future. Those places make for a pretty good habitat for Islam to flourish (but I digress).
The fiscal mess of Ontario resembles the US leviathan. Any fiscal solution seems politically impossible to implement, given the level of awareness and moral degeneracy of their / our respective electorates. Distractions and procrastination may be the only political game possible until the inevitable and nasty reckoning.
