“The victim told police that she was attacked after smoking marijuana and drinking beer with people she believed to be her friends, including one girl who had been her best friend since kindergarten.
Patricia Montes, 15, and Erica Avery, 16, are charged with two counts each of felony armed sexual assault and kidnapping. Both have been charged as adults.”

I see that causation and correlation are taken as synonyms here.
It was the weed that caused these heinous actions? Puhleeze.
Liberals love this sick sh*t, it’s what they’ve worked so hard to turn western society into.
“Hope & Change”.
Status-quo for Florida. That state could be used for “COPS” exclusively. Daddy-to-be Trudeau JR, as unsubstantial as he is, is still a world away from this place, where twisted rites to adolescence begin sooner, and cruddy associations are made with people like the aptly-named “Woolfork”. The Empty Suit has some new-age ideas to push, and he will be the “man of the hour” unless the Conservatives get on-board. History shows that virtually all negative repercussions and violent spinoffs occur because of the misuse of ALCOHOL.
Yea, I believe the “weed” part of the story is just a factual statement of what occurred prior to the attack.
It’s not a focus point, although I’m sure the Liberal Left would love to make it a legalization issue with this story, not unlike gun bans after a mass shooting.
The real story is about what happened to western society, and how did we get there.
“Justin Trudeau’s victimless crime”
weed has nothing to do with the crime, this nonsensical title says more about lance than anything else
and no, I’m not a fan of the “little idiot” turdo
Pill, go climb back into the HOLE from whence you came, and don’t tell us the name of your BF that said hole belongs to!!
C’mon Lance …. there are just as many conservative/libertarian pot smokers as there are liberal pot smokers.
THIS IS EXACTLY THE SORT OF ISSUE ALONG WITH ABORTION AND RELIGION THAT IS WHAT KEEPS THE RIGHT ON THE FRINGES INSTEAD OF IN POWER.
Forget these social issues, you cannot win. Pot is here to stay and it’s getting bigger everyday. Concentrate on JTs stupidity around foreign affairs and the economy etc. He will win on the pot issue … the majority are okay with it. We need to be smarter and play to win .. LIKE THEY DO!
We are at a point where the west is docile compared to Islam and the conservative movement in North America is docile compared to what the progressives are up to. We need to get serious or just give it up and shut up.
You must know by now that pot does NOT make a person good or bad, it just makes them high., similar to owning a gun that doesn’t make you a killer, it makes you a gun owner. …. What people do, they would do anyway and if anything, the pot slows them down somewhat.
I might add that I am cancer survivor (for now) and if it wasn’t for cannabis, I would have opted out by now. It helps me sleep, eat, relax and stay alive.
CAN ANYONE GROK THIS?
It’s a plant. Like coffee. We need to get over it.
And I’m a card-carrying Conservative.
Btw, you could easily blame beer, after reading the article.
Seeing all the comments here (not the title though) makes me really happy to see that Canadian Conservatism is growing and evolving.
Lance seriously needs to look at this idiot crusade and decided whether low taxes or “being society’s daddy” is more important for most Canadian Conservatives… and no it’s not a false equivalency. One cannot both police the bedrooms of the nation and be a small government advocate.
“CAN ANYONE GROK THIS?”
Yep.
(Had to look up ‘grok’ on the Urban Dictionary:)
I do not like Liberals nor can I abide JT … he is a shallow ass. This is a deplorable case and most sad and hurtful to all. However, if there is an attempt here to link weed to possible evil outcomes … well I do not buy it. Shit happens. Possibly in this specific case there is a connection to booze and weed. How much was caused by the situation and the victim’s own involvement with bad asses? (Mess with something long enough and sooner or later…) I am NOT blaming the victim…trying to see the case as a whole.
Trying to link a connection here is no different to linking other events such as (say) cars to car crashes (even when alcohol is not involved).
IMHO we’d all be better off if pot was legal within reason…no, I won’t be changing my vote because of this. ☺ We do not live in a pure world. Shit happens. I do not drink alcohol, but do not begrudge people who do. People are entitled to a few freedoms and enjoyments in life. I smoke the occasional cigar. I should be allowed to do so legally and without society climbing all over me.
Pot would never cloud your judgement or find you dealing with people you wouldn’t ordinarily give the time of day. Pot is the victim here. Captcha ends with htc.
it’s now in regular dictionaries as well. Thanks for taking the time to look it up. I do that a lot too. Learnin’ is good.
grok |gräk|
verb ( grokked, grokking) [ trans. ] informal
understand (something) intuitively or by empathy : because of all the commercials, children grok things immediately.
• [ intrans. ] empathize or communicate sympathetically; establish a rapport.
ORIGIN mid 20th cent.: a word coined by Robert Heinlein (1907–88), American science fiction writer, in Stranger in a Strange Land.
Getting drunk and stoned equals impaired. Decisions made while impaired are just that, impaired. Booze is the primary culprit in this scenario but the pot adds an element to it. What element is it? Can’t say but it adds something and social responsibility coupled with a desire to do “what is right” is obviously not one of the things it adds.
Without being a troglodyte about pot, I do know that it’s a drug and like all drugs, it has a different effect on various people. High quality bud is not a tra-la-la lightweight stone, it’s quite epic to me and to lots of people. People that are loaded are impaired and should be busted for driving or working while gooned. Maybe they should be busted while playing by the sounds of it.
Legalize it now ffs, let me grow it, sell me a licence, tax it whatever you want. I can make home brew with a kit from superstore. It is as harmless as anything legal in our society.
As a business owner I would hired a pot smoker over a boozer any day of the week, I never had a problem in 15 years. I will not hire boozers anymore. Can’t get out of bed, unkept, vehicle accidents, belligerent etc.
I have smoked off and on for 25 years, currently off. Like a good cigar, especially the Hashish we could get down east when the CIA were backing the Afghanis back in the early 80’s when they were occupied by the Russians. Much better smoke than today’s BC bud for taste and buzz.
Time for the CPC to get with the high times. Glad to see many other posters here on the same wavelength.
“Grok”…. Stranger in a Strange Land. Read it years ago when I was young and liberal and hated it even then. Full of la la land … you know, the stuff California is made of. In fact, I was living in California when I read it. (As a side note, most SF writers are very liberal).
As for the marijuana, that is a non-issue in this story. Really, what is happening to women in these times is the story. Women used to be the civilizing influence, at least in the U.S. Not that I ever believed that women were perfect …. a little ancient (Roman) history soon dispelled that myth….. but rather that on the whole they were more empathetic and compassionate, emotionally different than men. Maybe it’s this constant drum beat to be more like men …. vile beasts that they are … that’s changed things.
And yes, I like to use the dot, dot, dot, dot thingy. Keep on truckin’ baby……..
Like many here, I have both smoked pot and drunk alcohol. Alcohol has cost me thousands of dollars, more than a few jobs, and my first marriage. Pot has never caused me a problem. I smoked in university in the late 70’s, and during my early 20’s, but my first wife didn’t want me to do it (not because she didn’t like what I was like when I was high, but because she was worried about it being illegal), so I stopped cold turkey, no problem.
Booze I knew was causing me problems – my wife didn’t like me when I was drunk, I was angry all the time, I got fat, etc., etc. – but I found it very hard to stop. Booze is very much more dangerous than pot, in my experience, and those of friends around me.
But we learned in Prohibition that banning booze is stupid, and just leads to massive corruption. We’re repeating that mistake with pot. Better to find solutions that help people deal with it when it gets to be too much for them, than criminalize thousands, and support drug traders around the world. And, obviously, tax it and use some of the proceeds for treatment.
And Lance, seriously, get a grip. This incident is as marijuana-related as I am related to the lady next door. You should watch the Saturday Night Live 3rd season skit “X-police”, with its punch line “Another marijuana-related death”.
Primary element: “with people she believed to be her friends…” right-o, going into the various court cases in the last 5 years and you’ll see what in the majority of sexual assaults? Right, “believed to be her friends…” or “known friend” ah yep. Booze has a higher chance of being the main instigator because of how it acts on the body.
And running with that, what next? News articles and scare clips from 50 years ago as a causal link. We’ve already got the laws on the books regarding intox under a drug, the only thing stopping it is people with their head up their backside. And let’s be heavily realistic, if she’d been assaulted and they were all drinking this wouldn’t even have been posted here now would it.
If you Robert Heinlein is a liberal, you need to read more. Start with the short story “Conventry”, and get back to us.
Well said,KB.
Heh, all the potheads show up to defend their favorite escape from reality. Their stridency on the topic pretty much proves the point.
An old friend was an RCMP officer on the Prairies from the 60’s to the 80’s. He served on and near many First Nations, which were then called “Indian Reserves”.
I once asked him how many of the domestic violence calls for the Rez’s he attended had alcohol as the exacerbating factor. He replied,” all of ’em”.
“Reefer Madness” was NOT a documentary. Legalize pot.Tax it. If the world comes to en end,so be it.
According to many evangelical conservatives,it’s going to end soon any way and the righteous will be swept up to Heaven in the rapture.
They’ll probably find people smoking dope up there in that hypocrite- free paradise.
Sorry I find it hard to link pot to this singularly anymore than I can blame beer for this.
Folks this is the face of evil. I hope you can see it. swift hard justice… just a question say if that girls daddy was say a full fledged member of the Hells Angels what do you think would happen to those boys n girls or there parents and what do you think the police would do.
Death penalty would be totally appropriate in this case. They should be put down like the rabid animals they are.
Thanks for the explanation and background! One of the bonuses of the ‘net is learning. Absolutely. 🙂
As an aside ,everytime people talk about legalizing pot, or banning booze or what ever the stupid political arguments are I’m goanna say do what ever the F you want but I want private health insurance. . you say legalize pot..i say I want private health insurance, you say hookers are cool and you bewleive they should be free to sell themselves….I say I want private health insurance….you say .05 and we steal your car and ban you from driving for 30 days …I say I want private health insurance…..you say you love homosexuals and bath houses are a great place to meet for gay sex ..I say I want private health insurance…you wanna sky dive and do extreme sports..i say I want private health insurance.. It is all I want. right now I pay about 36,000 a year in federal income taxes. give me about 80% of the health care portion back the other 20% can go into a public healthcare system ..but I want my own private healthcare and the ability to defend and protect my life ,my family and my possession’s and private property rights. that’s it that’s all.
You know what assuming gets you right? I’ll bet you do. How odd that your statement rails against the people who comment the most on here. Dirty facts them.
Marijuana has only been linked to axe murders as I recall. I tend to blame this on the evil young white girls involved.
I finally looked it up today. Justin Trudeau’s mommy was the
one screwing rock stars and flashing Canadian beaver back in
the 70’s. What is it with liberals that produce the morals
of alley cats? Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Hillary lesbian
Clinton, etc..
I will say that I am now taking interest in Canadian politics
since this Rob Ford hit the spotlight. He is actually making the
Democrats look sane and sober!
You serious? I pity you.
It looks like the beer and pot were just tools used by a pimp and his stable to attempt to recruit another teenage hooker. The real connection to Canada is our Supreme Court’s ruling decriminalizing anything related to prostitution. The rapist should get a chance to dance on the end of a rope, as should any pimp. And I won’t even get into the drug legalization argument.
I have been around here a long time, card carrying, sometimes donating always voting conservative.
Linking this story to Justin’s pot use admission is the kind of tripe I would expect to see coming from Robert who tends to drift a little farther right than most here.
Do I detest Trudeau and think he will be the ruination of the country if elected PM? I sure do.
Is this poor child a victim of pot prohibition. No, she is a victim of a brutal sexual assault. To even suggest being impaired is the cause of the incident is insane.
Glad Conservatives are seeing how wonderful weed is.
Eli
what ppl like strad miss, is that there is an actual social issue they are missing. That is that young ppl are not being educated to understand those around them, they live, as do many posters in here, in “street ignorance”. My X was born and raised in west Toronto , she was totally surprised by street “dynamics” when she first started going with me. Her comment one day was, “I thought such things only happened on TV shows”. Judging by some of the comments in here the commenters are as street ignorant as she was/is.
As others here have already mentioned, trying to link this horrid story with weed and the peon Justin is as intellectually dishonest as it comes.
Again, as at least two others have beat me to here, it is an embarrassment to the conservative movement that this tragic story would be presented in such an ignorantly partisan fashion. Shame, lance, shame.
pot smoker = liberal
christian = conservative
atheist = liberal
gun owner = conservative
It is truly quite amazing the stereotypes hardcore partisans believe and perpetuate to make their little worlds work. It surely eliminates the need for any of that pesky critical thinking though!
Maybe this thread will finally help some of the truly ignorant understand that lots of conservatives smoke pot and lots of liberals don’t. Just as their are lots of liberal Christians and lots of conservative atheists.
I hope this poor girl finds some justice.
A. Cooper said: “It was the weed that caused these heinous actions? Puhleeze.”
Its been my experience that weed makes people sit still and giggle, whereas alcohol makes them belligerent and violent. And easier to beat up. Yay.
But that experience is from the 1970’s, when the home-grown weed we used to get was very weak. Two or three joints to get a buzz. These days the pot is ten times stronger. Two hits off a joint will blow your head off.
Plus we don’t know they didn’t spice up their weed with a little meth or something, people have been known to do that kind of thing too.
So I’m prepared to entertain the notion of drugs-and-booze contributing to a beating like this one. Without knowing the whole back story, I’m sure it didn’t help that they were all wasted at the time.
Personally I find the level of personal betrayal on display here appalling. Your friend since you were both toddlers beats you half unconscious and helps some guy rape you? That’s the kind of thing major historical feuds start over.
I really get a little tired of cancer survivors claiming great benefit from smoking pot. As a cancer survivor myself, who arrived at this point WITHOUT getting constantly stoned, I wish to point out that I feel just fine. It’s your brain that is fried, and incapable of subjective reasoning. Stoned people seem to find everything funny as hell. Watching a girl get raped is probably hopelessly hilarious when you’ve reached a level approaching totally baked.
Potheads lack much, not the least of which is credibility.
I agree, and if I might add, this case is just a manifestation of the increasing general collapse of the moral fiber of our North American societies that the liberals seemingly want to see and enable.
What Knight 99 said @ 11:59.
David in Michigan, I think you have something there. This could be one of the reasons why many single men look for a female mate in eastern Europe or Asia.
I detest the idea of Trudeau as PM as much as anyone. However, I have smoked weed for over 40 years and never seen anything remotely comparable to this incident. Weak-ass scaremongering trying to link the two.
This the best you can do? WOW
There are a lot of conservative baby boomers that have and still do smoke weed…don’t insult us.
Potheads lack much, not the least of which is credibility.
Yes, the obviousness that escaping from reality means one cannot recognize reality seems to elude them.
The Phantom >
“That’s the kind of thing major historical feuds start over.”
Exactly!
Now it’s an everyday back page story that revolves around the legal right to get stoned.
This is a story of the decline and fall of western civilization, yet the bread and circus crowd thinks it’s about their rights to get high without “potential” consequences. It’s as if they don’t smoke as much pot trouble free as they want already.
Hey fella’s, did you go to a party last weekend, have the bones in your face broken, and a couple of black dicks stuffed up your ass? No? Then STFU, you missed the problem here.
Lance, I’m really surprised you abolitionists keep bringing this tired meme up. Every time, as shown by the comments above, we libertarians beat you senseless. Just goes to show that the abolitionists don’t really believe in personal responsibility after all. “The devil (or demon weed) made me do it!!!”
And I thought naively that avoiding personal responsibility was an exclusively liberal trait.
Serious pot dudes (here I’m talking 7 joints a week or more)and alcoholics do share one thing. Just attempt to challenge their myopic world view and you are in for some serious push back. I like Knight’s take on this issue, you want the freedom to do any crap you want to do then give me the freedom and the tools necessary to protect myself and my family from your ‘freedom’.
Heh, that is pretty twisted reasoning on display. Just because a substance causes twisted behaviour does not mean it is the substance voluntarily consumed that is at fault.
The lasting effects of this stuff are quite apparent to those of us who are sane.
Nold >
Yea, funny that!
The same “give me the freedom to get loaded on drugs” crowd are mainly the ones that want to take our rights of self protection from them.
Give us Concealed Carry, Stand your Ground, and Castle laws, and I say pump your veins full of whatever the hell kind of poison you want.
I’d also add that taxpayer money towards addiction and addiction related health issues also be scraped, along with doubled legal punishments for committing a felony crime while under the influence.
Then giver dudes, I’ll be with you 100%.
I also want private health care. Because I don’t want my taxes going to pay for libertarian abortions, liberal crack houses,or Ndp gay bath houses/rub n tugs e-jack-u-Layton parlours. In addition to concealed carry, stand your ground, and castle laws.
strad
greatest “escape” from reality is religion, I call it the Disney world thinking!!!!
cars don’t kill, bad driving may tho, guns don’t kill, butt stupid users may, alcohol doesn’t cause beatings, the person with the fists does
Blame?
Blame them for being criminals.. Thinking it was the POT is to assume these people were good people before they got high.. They were not..
This Refer Madness meme is simply untrue..
Good people and bad people smoke POT.. Trying to connect the two is conservative climate science..
Reality rocks. Just say no to drugs.
Why have a fake life when you could have a real one? (Unless your life really sucks)
greatest “escape” from reality is religion…
Heh, comparing your escape with what you call the ‘greatest escape’ doesn’t really help your argument.
Better take a few less puffs…
