    WestJet is rocking the hit counter with this one. When I checked at noon it was at 7.3 mil. Its at 11.4 mil now.
    There is no red anywhere I could see. (sucks to be Air Canada on this one)

    Well, previously there apparently was “evidence”, and a position on the issue was taken by “experts”, who have now reversed themselves.
    This particular issue is not about government policy. However, there is plenty of squawking about the need for “evidence-based” policy from government, the supposed need for a mandatory census with vast quantities of information, etc. But the moral of the story in this regard is: don’t make coercive government policies merely on “evidence” that people are better off doing something or other. Scientific evidence frequently changes. Government is coercive by nature, and coercion is an ethical issue. So yes, government policies (where needed) are by definition grounded in morality.

    Again: the “evidence” from multiple studies is frequently contradictory. The way things are supposed to work in a free society: Scientists publish their findings, then individual members of the public read about it and choose their behaviour based on what they read. There is no need for government “policy”, i.e. the application of coercion, at all.

    Unhealthy obese people place a disproportionate burden on the health care system and they should pay more. Liquor and tobacco taxes should also go directly to health care, not general revenue.

    Not in our society, where unrestrained marketing preys on the large segment of the population with below average intelligence, to coerce them into buying stuff they don’t need with money they don’t have to get ever deeper into debt.

  29. I am reasonably certain that there were competent signers available, however they probably clashed with the color scheme.
    I am amused that the man apparently had a high enough security clearance to stand next to the president of the US and also many other world leaders, yet the SA government cannot track the company they hired to provide the translator, as they have seemingly disappeared into thin air.
    This indeed is part of the Mandela legacy. Corruption, corruption, corruption. There is no part of the SA government that is not rife with it. I give them two years or less before the blood flows.
