  1. Way to go Riders! The Riders deserved the cup this year… Rider nation, best fans in the league, Riders best team! Good season for the Cats… next year… my Lions.

  2. I guess it depends on which team’s Afro-American mercenaries perform the best today…
Check the roster. 10 of the Rider players (42 man roster) are from Saskatchewan, and that doesn’t count the guy from North Dakota, who may as well be. Or the other Canadians.

  3. Congratulations to the Roughriders.
Have to say I’m disappointed we have racists like don morris and stradivarious mentioning “Afro-American mercenaries” in this thread and on this site. It’s very disappointing to see such attitudes.
I expect such disgusting comments from liberal/socialists -and maybe the two mentioned are- but I hate seeing such comments on this site as I have seen and expect better, more enlightened and intelligent commentary from all who visit.
My father (rest his soul) played semi-pro hockey with black hockey players back in the 50’s and the one thing he taught all of us is that skin colour is irrelevant (particularly in sports) as it’s what you do on the playing field that counts. End of story.
I disappoints me all the time when I see such comments on any SDA thread. We are better than that.

  4. Yup. I don’t have satellite or cable either. Could watch two Yank football games over the air, but no Grey Cup transmissions. CBC (re)running Mr. Bean’s Christmas and CTV carrying Amazing Race, Yank version. However, caught the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Qs at a Buddy’s place.
Confession: Used to cheer for Ti-cats until Hamilton elected Sheila Copps.

  5. Who’s the we? The we who hypersensitively accuse people of racism? And so what if it is the oh-so-evil-oh-my-god-how-can-it-be racism? Deal with it. Maybe lock yourself in a closet and blow your rape whistle when someone says something offensively racist. Speak for yourself, bitch.
Gratz to the Riders! The lawnjob is forgiven!

  6. They’re black players. They have bee playing in the CFL for over 60 years.
As a person who has dealt with words all his life the impression I got with the comments were of racist intonation.
If they weren’t then perhaps don morris and stadivarious can respond. If they can’t then I guess my impression was correct. Or these intellectual giants need someone else to respond for them?!?
Only idiots who don’t know the history of the CFL would refer to them as “mercenaries” simply because many of the highest paid players in the CFL are the offensive linemen who for the most part are now – and always have been – Canadians.
@ max. I won’t even respond to your pathetic comment. I try to avoid arguing with idiots – and yes you are one.

  7. What Sporty said.
The history of (black) players, coaches and GM’s in the CFL is long, storied and distinguished.
Anyone who purposefully belittles their accomplishments is ill-informed. (That would be politically correct for ‘stupid’, or ‘idiot’).
Based on this understanding, one can safely assume that black skinned people can perform to astounding levels in all fields. But that may be a step too far for some bigots.

  8. Was able to watch the game on NBC Sports Channel here in Los Angeles. What a great game. Went to the AX at UCLA game Saturday night, and the fans in Regina can scream much louder than the Yanks at their game.
Congrats to the Riders, SK and the CFL.

  9. What Sporty said.
These fellows do not fit the dictionary definition of mercenary, as they love playing football.

  10. My 10 year old Ti-cat fan daughter is dejected. But she is patient. Do not be surprised if a woman from Ontario buys the Riders 40 years from now and runs them into the ground just to make a point.
Personally, I for one welcome our new Rider Nation overlords…

  11. I note this is the third time that Kent Austin has been involved in a Grey Cup game that the ‘Riders played in. And all three times the ‘Riders won. He is good luck for Saskatchewan.

  12. Anyone who purposefully belittles their accomplishments is ill-informed.
Chasing an imitation pigskin around a field is an ‘accomplishment’? heh Maybe you could detail exactly what that accomplishes, other than circulate existing wealth?
Apparently it’s entertainment to some, but it certainly doesn’t rise to the level of an accomplishment in the real world. It’s a silly little game.

  13. They didn’t seem to be chasing it, they were in some cases carrying it rather purposefully from one end to the other. Compared to Obamacare, that’s already an improvement.

  14. Congratulations Riders!
What’s not to like about Saskatchewan, situated on Potash Bedrock, floating on OIL, covered in Green on the Field!
And don’t forget, floating into the ETHER from Delisle Saskatchewan, via DIAL-UP, a World Ranked weblog, “BLOG — Small Dead Animals” , eh?
    SASKATCHEWAN NOW all WALL!!
    NO more Tommy the Commie!

  15. In the interest of national unity,
all CFL teams should now be renamed
    “Roughriders” or “dompteurs des cheveux”.

  16. Saskatchewan is unofficially the least productive province in the country today. #DariansFault #HolySheets

  17. “I note this is the third time that Kent Austin has been involved in a Grey Cup game that the ‘Riders played in”
Kent Austin is a class act off and on the field. Grabbing the poor guy for a mindless interview as the first half ended was sheer stupidity and accomplished exactly nothing. Austin showed great composure as he was asked what the Ti-Cats had to do differently in the second half. Although he probably felt like beating that stupid woman over the head with the microphone, he politely stated the obvious …. score more points and allow the Riders to score less.

  18. I expect reactions like yours only from lefty-liberal types who never developed a sense of humor!
    Idiot.

  19. Who the phuck came up with the title “Banjo Bowl” anyway?
I blame the Tranna sports media, but who knows.
    Anyway I hate it.

  20. @ don….Not a lefty or liberal. I’ve got a great sense of humour. I didn’t find humour in your comment or that of stradivarious’.
I have come to expect decent comments from respondents to SDA threads….not lefty-liberal type slurs. I guess my expectations are a little too high:)
By the way, I have a few black friends/acquaintances (not many in this burb) and have never called the “afro” anything. The colour of their skin rarely enters the conversation, ever….but if it does I call them black….just like they call me white. I regard them as Canadian – since they were born here.
