Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Ya know, fracking is not new. , although the form and use has changed over the years. They were fracturing when i was a kid. Have you ever heard of ZEBCO? They make reels, rods, and fishing stuff. They started out as “ZErohour Bomb COmpany.” They made explosive bombs to drop down oil and gas wells right after WWII. One of the problems with the modern generations and libruls in particular, is that nothing has ever happened before they were born.
Canada has been the leader in commercializing horizontal drilling and fracking (and coil-tubing) not the US.
First horizontal well Oklahoma 1938
Multistage fracs. Exxon patent.
Packers plus biggest customer-Saudi Arabia
Number of fracs US 1 000 000
Total wells canada 600 000. Frac 100 000
First frac 1860 USA
Largest frac apache BC 50 000 tonnes
Largest frac company Halliburton now hq Dubai
Hard to pick a lead here
The us started it but the modern commercial applications were developed in Canada.
Methinks you are imagining things
Horizontal fracs in the USA proceed us by 10years
Original prop fracs. By 12. 1938. Instead of 1950 pembina
Early fracs with nitro. 60 years. Pennsylvania vs turner valley 1913
And my own fracs have been much larger in Texas than alta or sask
Oil fracs in the wolfcamp. Longer wells too
1.5 miles vrs 1
Hydraulic fracturing is like air travel. People only hear about the few crashes, not the millions of take-offs and landings. Problems when fracking new wells are rare. However problems occur when lax regulations allow cowboy outfits to frack old wells with deteriorated casing. This is a failure of regulations and enforcement, not a failure of the technology.

no shitshurlock, you just described what goes wrong in most cases in most industries, ‘cept it’s short cuts that Eff things up. Witness the Japanese nuke problem, they forced cooling pipes that did not mate, so they were permanently stressed, until the tsunami relieved the stress
It’s not regulations that make me test the casing or run an isolation packer or decide to do a coil frac
Not regulations but good engineering practice
