Oh, Shiny Pony!

Moral Trudeautude;

Federal Liberal leader Justin Trudeau’s admission he smoked marijuana after becoming an MP – and the ensuing flurry of similar disclosures by other Canadian politicians – has a U.S. immigration lawyer shaking his head.
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw him admit to it,” said Len Saunders.
The Blaine, Wash. lawyer says Trudeau and any other admitted Canadian pot smokers – high profile or not – should expect to be refused entry to the U.S.

  1. That’s assuming anybody in the USA is listening to what Trudeau says. I’m trying not to as my BS/illogic filter is full.

  2. That occurred to me as well. I have a friend who was found guilty of marijuana possession when he was a teenager. Even though that conviction has long been pardoned in Canada, U.S. immigration never forgets.
He could, I suppose, apply for a U.S. entry waiver, but getting them is expensive and time consuming, and I believe they’re only temporary.

  3. “Trudeau and any other admitted Canadian pot smokers – high profile or not – should expect to be refused entry to the U.S.”
Does this mean he would have to stay in Canada?
Do Canadians have a say in this?
Wouldn’t we want him to leave the country as often as possible?

  4. Once again, the Shiny Pony shoots himself in the foot (or is it hoof? Never mind.).
Are there any politicians worrying about real things, like Syria, and not drugs? Anyone?

  5. “Refused US Entry” is a feature, not a bug, for the vast swathe of Canadians who through a nasty combination of envy and arrogance detest the United States of America.

  6. Don’t worry, fans of Justin,he’ll be granted the same waiver Keith Richards was after being convicted of using heroin.
I breathlessly await the day Justin as PM makes his first official visit to the U.S. They can take a photo of him and Obama together, entitled,”portrait of the two Messiahs”.
They can hang ’em in the White House, Rideau Hall, and the Vatican. The photos,I mean.

  7. Justin Trudeau and Obama, together, smoking up. Maybe Obama will make him an honorary member of the “Choom Gang”.
Those rules are only for us little people. The greats of the world are not affected. Just think of Pierre Trudeau and Margaret, smoking pot together with an RCMP officer standing guard outside their door.
In Islam it is well defined. The religious/political leaders are God’s emissaries, and what they do is fine by definition. Ibn Saud used to say, reportedly, that he was so holy that wine turned to water as it crossed his lips.

  8. “True-Dope-ia’s” travel plans UP IN SMOKE…vote LIEberal hallucinate in another world!
    Cheers

  9. If true, this is an indictment of America and its insane attitude to drugs. Besides I’m sure Trudeau will get a waiver.

  10. Yes, of course. But we don’t have the same regulations and policies on immigration and visitor control, so Clinton should be denied entry to Canada for different reasons, e.g. because he’s Clinton, he’s probably a carrier of various STDs.

  11. I wonder if NSA has turned on the baby monitor in JT’s house and is watching him have a puff?
    Tee-hee, tee-hee otherwise on this news….

  12. My depressing takeaway from the Trudeau-smoked-pot thing was how quickly so many other politicians in the country fell over themselves to get to the microphones to declare, “Hey me too!” and how the slobbering media turned this juvenile non-story into some Big Frigging Deal. Worst of all, CANADIANS ATE IT UP.
Trudeau’s gonna be PM someday (don’t know if it will take one election or two) because our country simply has too many fools.

  13. I dunno about this; Trudeau was neither charged nor convicted of any drug-related offence, and I think that even the stringent likes of the US border guards are going to need something more than the statement of a politician to go on before denying entry – after all we all know how reliable the word of a politician is…

  14. Be thankful we have had a rest from The Liberal break dancing to doom in Canada.
Once the liberals are in Power again. It will be a mud slide into oblivion.
The cracks in this Country, will begin to shift like continents

  15. Nah, He will get a waiver. The Obama administration gives immigration waivers to islamic terrorists and then invites them to the Whitehouse to talk about “peace.”

  16. Dudley;
I know a guy who when asked by a USA immigration guard ‘where he was from’ and answered God’s country. The immigration guy said ‘well then turn this car around and go back to God’s country. No entry for him.

  17. The states will let him in,after all he is Justin.
But,what about those other countries that Justin courts favour. I don’t think there are too many islamic countries that open their arms to dope smoking sycophants. Than again,if he can shut down the oilsands, they will probably overlook the pot admission also.
BTW,I was poking around the Saskatoon Literary Conference site. They paid Justin $20,000 for a five minute speech. He missed a vote in the HofC that day. The vote was taken at 6:15 p.m. April 30,2012 according to Hansard. Justin was in Saskatoon pocketing his gravy at that time. The media overlooked that liitle skullduggery.
If anyone knows if he was accompanied by a companion, staff, wife, troupie, whatever, could they post that info. Also, when Justin bilks a charity in his other job,we end up paying part of his fee.
They sell tickets to the fundraiser. The tickets are accompanied with a receipt. That receipt lowers their tax bill. If a corporation buys a table for $1,200,they write it off their taxes. Less tax from the corporations, more tax from the working stiffs.
I know, the tax write-off is necessary and does help charities immensely, but when the Justin pockets a wad because of it,it pisses me off.

  18. Why are you surprised?
Did you think he was sober, when He accepted the leadership of the Liberal Party?

  19. “how the slobbering media turned this juvenile non-story into some Big Frigging Deal”
Did they ever! Yet when PMSH stated that he had never smoked dope, or anything for that matter due to his asthma, the media viewed this revelation as a bad thing and further proof that the Prime Minister was just a mean old man. Certain small-minded media cretins even went so far as to make a mockery of his asthma.

  20. This doesn’t make a lot of sense. Does this mean that residents of Washington State or California where pot is legal are somehow restricted from traveling too ? Without a criminal conviction for possession or distributing this law means nothing. Clinton is proof of that, although I do have warm fuzzy thoughts of Trudeau being turned back at the border.

  21. Will you ignorant people PLEASE stop calling him that?
    He’s actually a ‘shi**y pony’…!
    🙂

  22. Ross Rebagliati was denied entry into the U.S. to be a TV commentator at the 2002 Olympics for the snowboard competition in Salt Lake City based on the admitted use of marijuana prior to the 1998 Olympics.
He was neither charged nor convicted for marijuana and it is traditional to have the previous Gold Medal winner(Ross Rebagliati) appear at the next Olympic Games as an official commentator..

  23. Oz: Customs doesn’t care that you’re not convicted; you admitted to doing something illegal (and something that I suspect they’re statutorily obligated to care about).
When you admit you’ve done something, they don’t need a criminal record to prove it; they have a confession.
(Peterj: US citizens can’t be refused entry to the US, so it’s irrelevant.
But if they – anyone from the US – tell CBP that they’re pot smokers, they should expect a thorough (“tear out the cushions”-level) search of their vehicle pursuant to re-entry.)
(Full disclosure: I’ve crossed that border about a zillion times. And I never tell CBP anything they don’t ask about.)

  24. I;d be happier if this admitted felon was refused entry into ROC _ never allowed across the Querbrcistan border.

  25. What if a person smoked pot but didn’t inhale?
According to Avril Phaedra “Kim” Campbell, that’s what she did.
But, Jean Chretien appointed her as Consul to California, and the Yanks had no trouble with that.
As JL said, there’s laws for us little folks, and other laws for the elite.
Now that Rob Ford has admitted to being a frequent dope smoker,is he still “okay” in conservative bloggers books?

  26. What if a person smoked pot but didn’t inhale?
According to Avril Phaedra “Kim” Campbell, that’s what she did.
    ~Don Morris
It isn’t illegal to smoke pot, it’s illegal to possess or traffic in it.
Come on, tell me Campbell wasn’t in possession of it when she smoked it without inhaling it.

  27. This lawyer has no clue what he’s talking about. Mere possession of a conrolled substance is not a “crime of moral turpitude” that is grounds of inadmissibility. Moreover, an admission of a crime of moral turpitude that has not been prosecuted is not grounds of inadmissibility unless the admission is made under oath administered by the immigration officer and the immigration officer has explained to the alien the purpose of the questioning.

  28. Customs/Immigration agents can refuse entry to anyone, anytime they wish. They do not have to have a reason nor do they have to tell you why. Your name is put into the computer and the next time you show up trying to get entry your name comes up. I think there is a 5 year ban on this type of refusal. If you give them false information and they find out you are banned for life. If you are caught in the US WHEN THEY FIND OUT YOU WILL GO TO JAIL. Remember you do not have a right to go to the US just as nobody has a right to come to Canada. When you cross the border you have been INVITED IN.

  29. Michael you are wrong. I know many people who cannot travel across the border because they have convictions of cannabis possession.
Anyway who cares? The only travel plans of Mr. Trudeau that I care about are his plans to move across town to 24 Sussex.
PMSH rightfully dismissed this whole discussion as something not serious. Can the rest of us move on and focus on the ’empty shiny pony’s’ policies? He is a shallow vessel and not a serious person. His proclivities aside, Trudeau is being ginned up by the media as a serious candidate to run our country. That should concern us.
I could care less if he smoked the curtains. What concerns me more is that he is a light weight twit that has me pining for the leadership of Bob Rae.
By buying into this whole pot thing, we are ignoring the real issue- that someday we may have this vapid, narcissistic and immature man in charge.
They already did that across the border. That’s working out real well.

  30. They can hang ’em in the White House, Rideau Hall, and the Vatican. The photos, I mean.

    Hanged, drawn and thirded???

  31. Conviction is not the same as simple admission. A conviction for a criminal offence will bar you. A conviction for simple possession is likely officer’s discretion for barring. The waiver that’s been tossed around applies to a conviction, not an admission. An admissiuon can get you barred. You can’t get a waiver for being barred from an admission. This story has hit the MSM bigtime….
What is missing from the discussion is that Shiny Pony admitted to smoking weed while an MP… If he shared it, he’s guilt of trafficing, a criminal offence. People should have an issue with an MP flaunting law whether they agree with it or not. He is a legislator – if he doesn’t like the law, he can work to change it. To disregard the law that he, as a legislator, has a high obligation to uphold, should be call for his resignation as unfit for office.

  32. So couldn’t he say he was just kidding . . . explain that he was trying to get a few votes.
    ___
TJ — yea, but what if his kids want to go to Disneyland? Then he has a problem.

  33. No, some filthy liberal hippie was probably holding the joint while our Kim sucked away on it! 😉
I won’t hypothesize as to what else Kim had between her lips later that night.
Why did no one answer my question about admitted heavy pot smoker Rob Ford? If Trudeau is unfit to etc., surely Ford must be also.
Or does mj only addle the brain of Liberals?

  34. Pot is illegal only because forest industry was told hemp could be used to make paper and that could not be allowed to happen. A few bags of $$ later it was banned. But truth does not matter here either. I’ll watch indifferently as the muslim mobs will be stoning and beheading you all 30 years from now, because you are refusing to hear voice of reason. I am sick and tired of trying to explain things to the persons with inferior IQ who simply are not open to reality.
    Pot must be legal.
    Muslims must be deported.
Guns must be legal to all.
    There is no hate speech.
Holocaust denial is a human right just as are blasphemy and mocking of religion.
There must be ho public education and health care.
That’s it, had enough of those who are refusing to listen.

  35. Skip- I agree on all your points. What I am trying to say, is that by focussing on a topic that many canadians have squishy opinions about, we play a silly game.
Trudeau may be a twit but he has skilled advisors. They know this is a delightful distraction and a wedge issue.
I think we should be saying- great so you toked that kind of proves you are an unserious person, but what are your opinions on the economy, the middle east, etc. etc. ? Lets ask him serious questions about those things.
Ever had a toke? Who cares? Ever had a real job, run a going concern, or had an opinion that doesn’t involve quoting from the Huffington Post? Now I am listening.

  36. don morris
Interesting question. Was Mayor Ford a bit too quick and exuberant jumping in with his ‘me too’ on this issue? The question is why exactly? Has the cool rebel meme been so ingrained into our popular culture and consciousness that a ‘no comment’ just wouldn’t be sufficient anymore?

  37. Actually now that he’s cornered the LPC into being a one policy party he can be called “one trick pony”.

  38. I believe the reason for Ford’s happy admission was that the Red Star dicks thought he’d deny it or claim he only toked a few times and then they’d bring up all the high school/university witnesses that saw/joined him doing it. Ford pulled the rug out from under their half-assed ambush by readily admitting to it.

  39. And the Red Star hasn’t taken “no comment” from Ford ever—indeed, used it against him. Why would they start now?

  40. Rob Ford has also come out and said; ” I have never smoked pot in what appears to be a METH pipe.”
    The media is confused.

  41. I would suppose that Justin Trudeau as Leader of HM Opposition would travel on a diplomatic passport.
As I said, there are different rules for Those on High than for us peasants.

  42. “Washington State’s vote in late 2012 to legalize, tax and sell marijuana has created confusion, leading some B.C. residents to believe pot is now a non-issue when heading south.”
Was the confusion created due to too much pot smoking?

  43. Once upon a time, a trip the USA was an adventure that I looked forward to with great anticipation.
    Now, it’s just fly-over country.
