  1. Any word on how they’re going to power the pumps for that water slide? Or maintain it? Or, like, chlorinate it?
Nothing like a water slide with green stuff growing on it, I always say. I guess the slime coating would make the ride faster though, eh?

  2. “Ottawa officially rejected city calls for support in 2011. Undeterred, last October, Iqaluit’s 500 ratepayers voted 57% in favour of borrowing up to $40 million to fund the new facility themselves.”
Who would lend Iqaluit $40 million? They have no tax base to pay it back. Does anyone in Iqaluit pay taxes? I guess Whitie does. Creating Nunavut had to be the stupidest make-work project ever. The NWT had way too much civil service before they created Nunavut and doubled it. Space age technology managing a stone age economy.

  3. Now there’s an investment that will pay off! Frankly as long as it’s their money, funded by local taxes and not my federal tax dollars I really don’t care. I doubt that the lack of an aquatic center is the most pressing concern in Frob’.

  4. Phantom, when I worked there briefly in the late ’80s, the whole town was powered by a diesel generator station that was built by the USAF when it built the airport for its aerial tankers that re-fuelled B47 and B52 nuclear bombers. There is an altimeter in the terminal as a memorial to the occupants of a private plane that crashed in foul weather; the town generator failed so there were no instrument landing aids and the airplane circled, waiting for the power to be restored to the airport, until it ran out of fuel and crashed, killing all on board.
Every year about this time when the ice leaves the bay tankers come in to replenish the tank farm at the top of the hill with gasoline, arctic diesel, jet fuel and furnace oil. Due to the leaky ships we were constantly finding ice crystals in the fuel being put on our airplanes despite the no-go filters on the fuel trucks.

  5. Nothing surprising here. When children have access to money and adults have the inability to say no, the toys always get priority. Saying no means adults are racist and hate children. See how simple this is ?

  6. They can drink the water from the aqua-park and use it for a sewer too… infrastructure problems solved.
The rest of us will keep paying for diesel fuel and generators so no problem … eh?

  7. It will have been destroyed 2 years if not sooner after it is built.
No Matter Canada’s has so many new Immigrants the gravy train will soon stop for Natives.
Thing is though Indians will never learn to cope in the real World when it Receives “FREE” stuff they never worked for. Like drug money, it will be wasted since no one sweat for it.
Its not privately owned. Soup keep will end up another white elephant.

  8. Shouldn’t the free market and private investors be building Water Parks? I.E. Why is entertaining people now the governments job?

  9. methinks the gubmint of alison redford still has an oversized loan to west edmonton mall
