The Sound Of Settled Science

Tim Ball;

A few weeks before Obama’s announcement, on March 18 in Exeter, England, another WMO member, the United Kingdom Meteorological Office (UKMO), held a meeting to discuss the unusual weather and try and understand the

“disappointing UK weather over recent years.”

In fact, the need for the meeting and the programme indicates how little they know about weather and climate. What is really disappointing for them is the complete failure of their forecasting. They need an excuse for failure, but in doing so expose their incompetence.
Their total failure over decades could only happen in government or government sponsored industry. In the natural world, that advocates of more government generally favor, elimination would have occurred. Typical of government, failures and redundancies are perpetuated as people preserve their jobs. Give any problem to government and they will create structures that quickly work on sustaining themselves rather than achieving resolution. Can you think of any non-government agency that could be wrong 13 out of 14 years as the UKMO was and yet maintain their jobs or business?

  1. No, 13 out of 14 years? Probably at best (worst?) I could find a failure rate of 4 out of 5 years. They’re typically shuttered or pieces are sold off by then.

  2. Dr. Ball says it well on his homepage when he says the following, which I cherry picked, in his welcome to his website.
From the article: The officials condemn themselves with their own words, “disappointing UK weather over recent years.”
From Dr. Ball’s homepage: “Now the indoctrination is denied because they claim education is not about religion. In fact, it is about the new religion of environmentalism that is being used to create equally, if not more indoctrinated, young minds.”
    and
“Historically they entered university and challenged the prevailing wisdoms. Now they come fully indoctrinated with environmentalism that ignores facts, manufactures false information and blames humans for everything. It is significant that challenges come from much older people who know and understand the fallacies. Everyone knows that information is power, but it’s exploitation of power that has allowed a few to control and manipulate people.”
I tried to send him a little tip, but the button did not work.
What Dr. Ball says in the preamble to his site about the brainwashing going on in the educational system reminds me of the educational system in the former Soviet Union, and which most likely still goes on to some degree.
Western liberal democracies have succumbed to the very disease they opposed, and it started in our schools.

  3. “It is time to close the weather office as they, like all government weather offices, have proved are political, unaccountable and scientifically wrong.”
Just like SO many government Offices! As the article says, sic government on to a problem and they soon segue into a self-serving unit rather than solving said problem.
“Western liberal democracies have succumbed to the very disease they opposed, and it started in our schools.”
Yep,Ken,and when we have negotiations for “those noble teachers” here in B.C. this year, let’s not forget THAT aspect of their effect on our young people.

  4. Western liberal democracies have succumbed to the very disease they opposed, and it started in our schools.
It’s been a four pronged attack. Education, economic, religious and political. They are the 4 hidden dynasties. Hidden in plain view. The reason they have succeeded (or, think they have) is because people, for the most part, are Biblically illiterate. This isn’t the first time this has happened. Just the first time it’s happened globally.

  5. Power is intoxicating and one good deed deserves another..
After the social revolution roared through western Universities in the 1960s the faculty figured they somehow created this political upheaval.. Organizing and joining the movement in their minds made them the owners of the movement.. They feel they and they alone changed the world by jumping out in front of a movement that just so happen, to have come their way.. intoxicating..
Then along came the “Non smoking campaign” where researchers where encouraged to promote a positive social change by dubious research methods.. Everything and the kitchen sink thrown at this smoking social problem with the dishonest researchers and scientists being hailed as heros..
Smoking is surly bad for you but in order to encourage the social change necessary they played with the numbers making it far more deadly than the reality of the situation..
There you have the climate change template..
This is why they are so darned confused.. The last batch of social scientists/researchers were hailed as hero’s.. Gold watches and indexed pensions for every one of them.. They just want to repeat the template and the fame power and wealth that comes along with creative writing social science..
Really the moment they stepped out of line, allowing politics and social causes to take center stage in our universities we should have shut them down pending new management..
Very troubling that our universities must be free to take away everyone else’s freedom.. very troubling.

  6. I met a group of Greenpeace acivists back in 1987/1988 in Toronto. I had a friend who shared a house with them — thus I met them. I was not impressed. It was like shooting fish in a barrel.
I learned they were idiots — their arguments were idiotic and lacked basis.
I learned that people that work for Greenpeace were idiots. I talked to these people and they were hyped up on Dr. Scott’s Fuel cell agenda — laughed and said I had an M.A.Scx. based on that — they were sure nice till I told them the truth they did not want to hear. — that the H2 Economy really relies on the nuclear industry which they were extremely negative to — they did not like to hear that solar panels reuire larage amounts of selenium to generate solar panels — nevermind the thousand’s of km of forest they would have to cut down to meet the requirements of a single nuclear reactor.
Needless to say they were upset — now with the “newest theory” that greenhouse gasases are bad — nuclear looks good — OMG this is what they aimed to destroy in the 80’s.
Environmentaists are people without education and are heavy into dogma — the costs of their “solutions” decimate the economy without providing a real solution.
Plus climatology is a false science — it is based on 150 years of real data — the planet is 4.5 billion years and the planet has gone thru multiple ice ages — so how does that fit into the picture?
We have people who do not understand statistics or data management.
People have to understand that the climate is dynamic and that it is not static — the planet heats up and cools down without human intervention over the history of the planet — grow up and smell the coffee.

  7. people are believers, and now that god has lost sum of his luster there has cum a shift, and this shift has been to lefty ideology (aka bullshit). What would one expect from an org. (kristianity) that is lefty infested and based on reDICKulus nonsense, but more lefty/rediculus nonsense

  8. Yep…ignorance is generally more extensive than most realize. Most folk confuse Ice Ages with glaciations and are unaware we are surrently in an ongoing Ice Age and merely in a interglacial. Even a shallow understanding of this should be a vacination to the CO2AGW nonsense.
Wikepedia is generally a dubious source but I have found this wiki article to be an excellant primer.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_age
The current ice age, the Pliocene-Quaternary glaciation, started about 2.58 million years ago during the late Pliocene, when the spread of ice sheets in the Northern Hemisphere began. Since then, the world has seen cycles of glaciation with ice sheets advancing and retreating on 40,000- and 100,000-year time scales called glacial periods, glacials or glacial advances, and interglacial periods, interglacials or glacial retreats. The earth is currently in an interglacial, and the last glacial period ended about 10,000 years ago. All that remains of the continental ice sheets are the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets and smaller glaciers such as on Baffin Island.
