In recent days I’ve had occasion to meet a late 20’s woman who originally hails from Brazil but has been living in Vancouver for the past 7 years. She’s well spoken, has mastered the English language extremely well, and is currently in the processing of applying to become a Canadian citizen. She lives in Hedy Fry’s riding. She’s also Justin Trudeau’s ideal New Canadian: Wildly misinformed and a liberal/Liberal through & through.
Since meeting her, the following has emanated from her vocal chords:
- I’m studying for the citizenship test so I know much more about Canada and its history than you do.
- I love everything about Canada except Harper.
- Let’s face it, Pierre Trudeau was one of the greatest forces for good that this country has every seen.
- Justin Trudeau is dreamy and I’d volunteer for him in a second.
To #4, I responded, “you mean you’d vote for his hair if it alone were running!” But on a serious note, the Conservative Party of Canada should not ignore the fact the fact that there are lots of people like her. Damning facts like this matter not to her. She is infected with a virulent strain of HDS, which should make Liberals everywhere so incredibly proud on this Canada Day.

Canada is going to experience their own version of Obama-nation, the election of a dangerous idiot to the highest position in the land.
Both Canada and the US versions have been/will be aided and abetted by the left-wing MSM as well as by low-wattage voters like this.
In Canada however, our country will not have the buffering effect of the checks and balances present in the US system.
God help us…
Yes,Trudeau IS a person to be reckoned with. The Conservatives best hope is that once again the older voters come out in big numbers, and Trudeau’s youth vote stays home to play video games.
Women of Trudeau’s age and younger seem to have a school girl crush on him,so he can expect the vote from that demographic. It’s damned disappointing how many seemimgly intelligent people will vote for someone based on his looks and image.
Mulcair probably has more to worry about than Harper re Trudeau, but come 2015, we had better hit the trail again and work like hell for Harper or we could see the inexperienced, unaccomplished son of a messiah win it all.
People have allowed the destruction of a Christian society. Even though it’s obvious only Christian societies prosper and are the richest in the world.
You own it. Have a good trip.
I don’t blame this new immigrant. Since she’s been in Canada I’m sure there hasn’t been one positive word about Harper or Conservatives seen on any channel or any print. How else would she react?
The media is the enemy of freedom.
For most they fail to make the connection . i work with a guy from chili he is canadian through and through he came here in 72. He has never been on welfare in fact he works hard and dislikes lazy ppl he beleives in guns gun rights freedom of speech all of these things i thought him and i were close then he told me he would never vote conservative becasue he hates american style capitalism . i guess along time ago there was a socialist prez in chili he was good he said . then the americans came in and upset the system they had and installed capitalism that has always sat wrong with him (i know i dont get it either) but in doing so they made way for a dictator a tyrant who once again the ppl rose up and defeated.
he will never vote conservative he told me. when i took the time to explain to him that conservatives in canada are not like the conservatives back home or in hitlers germany or in many muslim countries i explained (with facts and proof) that conservatives are for and are fighting for the very things that he held dear to his heart freedom of speech ,the right to bear arms, the right to do what you like under the law yadda yadda…then i showedh im the abolition of the wheat board, the abolition of the gun registry ,the bulding up of our navy ,the fight for free speech the fight for private healthcare so on and so forth …it took him a few weeks of this and he now will vote conservative in the next election it took a long time for me to show that the liberals in his country are nothing like the liberals in this country that the libs in his country r similar to the conservatives in this country they fight for freedom freedom of speech religion yadda yadda. he was kinda shocked after doing research.
People who lie, I do not mean obfuscate which all politicians in Canada must do, when in the Political Spotlight seem to be individuals who are unable to think on their feet, which all people in the Political Spotlight must also do.
The reason for scripted speaking points is many competent, honest, politicians are unable to do one or more of the above in the “gotcha” 24 hour news cycle, “particularly” if you are a conservative politician. This “particularly” if you are a conservative politician is changing with the gathering of opposing opinion makers, such as SDA et al.
The apparent long standing shift to the perceived urban preference voters by the main stream newspapers is coming undone. Two of the major print providers are on the ropes. Using all of their possible arsenal to put Mayor Ford on the run has failed. The remaining major print provider did not join the over the top bias in this urban screed.
However; all three major print providers have moved towards an urban readership with many of their columnists joining with all of the other associates of the CBC. This is lead by the employees of said tax supported electronic media in a continual denunciation of the Federal Government. The hysteria grows as the CBC budget is finally under scrutiny for inefficiency and bias in both entertainment and news presentation.
Supposedly the need for presenting a print media format with what has been the urban elitist meme is created with the attempt to maintain an economical method of continuing print newspaper delivery. This is clearly a mistake in understanding the demographic of the changing Paper readers. The urban demographic for Paper news is well underway to becoming the suburban and rural Paper news reader.
The urban scene will continually become a tweet and agglomerate news gatherer source for the urban reader.
Printed paper will survive much longer in the suburbs and rural areas. Cheers;
Don’t forget that it was exactly this same kind of brain-dead infatuation that got the original Trudeau elected. The majority were in love with the cover and not the least interested or knowledgable of the contents. The result has been a revisionist version of our history and truth, so this young woman is the fruit of that indoctrination and propaganda.
Er…Robert. That would be DOMINION Day!
// the Conservative Party of Canada should not ignore the fact the fact that there are lots of people like her. //
Are you kidding? The Harpercrats have spent a lot of time & money to carve out support among immigrants, traditionally Liberal supporters.
This despite much of their base not liking immigrants much. They can count.

Don’t feel like you’re alone. Apparently a majority of ‘Americans’ have similar mental acuity.
I used to fear for America. Now I fear for Western civilization.

Christians used to know the cover doesn’t always represent the book. Of course, that’s why Christianity is not allowed in the public arena. The reason being, if ‘righteous judgment’ isn’t found, guess what’s the opposite.
Joh 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
Ah, Robert so glum – here’s something to brighten your day:

At this point at least the tweedle twins are a long way from being handed the reins of government by the electorate.
I won’t hold my breath waiting for the CBC, CTV, Globe and Mail and TYEE to report this. The Georgia Straight did, though.
I love everything about Canada except Trudeau and liberals those two things have been the singular most destructive force in this country – try that on her and wear a spatter screen when her head explodes.
Harper lost me on the accountability and transparency issue. Rathgeber gave him the opportunity and he blew it.
He lost my support. He is a liar. Too bad, I can’t trust him anymore. I guess they’re all the same once they get into power.
All the good he has done and still will do will not erase the fact that he lied to get in. It may cost him his reelection.
Perhaps these schoolgirls- sorry- potential voters should be acquainted with what is going on in Russia, China and the US. Putin has nothing but contempt for Obama and the US, supports the regime in Syria and has an iron grip on gas/oil in eastern Europe which has resulted in the winter deaths of hundreds. Ask these cheerleaders how their iron man Trudeau will handle Putin. Will he do it in the same way as his Nazi and communist sympathising father did? China has threatened the Philippines in the South China Sea. The Philippines. China also has been spying on us and taking our industrial secrets. How will the Shiny Pony deal with that? These are the things an actual leader must face. If they want someone like Justin Beiber, then they should run him. Whatever Harper’s faults, at least he called out Putin on his support of Syria. I didn’t see anyone else do that. As for arming the rebels, which the US has chosen to do, how many priests and other Christians have to be beheaded before the West gets it? Run pictures of Justin Trudeau next to pictures of the priest recently beheaded in Syria, along with pictures of women viciously assaulted in the acts he would never call barbaric. Let these brain-trusts know who and what they are voting for.
Justin Trudeau is dreamy.
For most voters, elections are a popularity contest. Very few consider issues and party platforms unless they have personal involvement in one specific pet issue.
“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.” – Winston Churchill
The title should read “The mind numbing effects of living in Vancouver”. BC is not homogeneous, and I think Christy is serious about LNG development and this will create another political pole in Northern BC quite opposing to the Vic-Van Axis of Idiots.
Dumb as this woman is, Harper’s habit of vindicating almost everything his critics say is dumber. And his supporters are dumber still.
Kroket “Harper lost me on the accountability and transparency issue. Rathgeber gave him the opportunity and he blew it.”
But Rathgeber is an asshole, in my opinion. Do you want accountability like Chretien offered. He ruled with an iron grip and his minions stole millions. That is why the Liberals have been unelectable. Young Trudeau collects contributions that would otherwise be illegal by invoicing $20,000 a pop.
Canada like the rest of North America will end up i a quilt of small states.
Its ignorance like this cultivated in schools for decades that will be our undoing, as well as immigration of barbarians.
But Rathgeber is an asshole, in my opinion. Do you want accountability like Chretien offered. He ruled with an iron grip and his minions stole millions. That is why the Liberals have been unelectable.
A whiny ad hom followed by a non sequitor. Par for the partisan course.
Wikipedia “Declining an English Literature scholarship to Oxford, Fry instead earned her equivalent of a BA in Science in one year and went on to then receive her medical training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland.”
“equivalent of a BA in science in one year”
Luckily, I have a BA in BS detection. In all likelihood her one and only award would have been a Bachelor of Medicine degree for which she would have been granted the right to use the post-nominals MD in British Columbia. Note that in Ireland or England, unlike Canada, one does not ordinarily expect to have a degree for admission to medicine or law. I suspect that whoever wrote the Wiki blurb suspected that Fry must have had to have had a degree to get into medicine and accordingly lied. Obviously a liberal. Any course shortage in basic sciences is simply made up within the medical program. For the record, while Fry may have deficiencies as a human being (liberalism), her education is top grade.
Brazilians are basically good hearted people but
some are very easily distracted and misled. WW2
was a good example, where what had basically been
a country governed by a pro fascist, even a pro
Nazi oligarchy, turned on a dime and became pro
American after President Roosevelt bought up the
near bankrupt country’s huge multi year coffee
crop surpluses in storage and had it shipped to
American soldiers everywhere for consumption.
Even more ironic was the fact that an outsized
proportion of the Brazilian soldiers sent over-
seas in WW2 were mostly sent to Italy, and were
technically and mechanically inclined young men
of ethnic German heritage. Despite their lack of
military experience and being one of many polyglot
“poor relations” poorly supported Allied forces
scattered throughout Italy at the time, they did
very well in some very tough situations.
I hear it all the time from people who have far less of an excuse for being ignorant and misinformed than this recent immigrant. Sadly, it is not unique to the west coast. I suspect Canada’s good fortune is actually part of the reason. We have no real enemies on the doorstep, our economy is strong, unemployment low, society is generally civi and low stress. People can afford to be stupid and still prosper. (Big contrast to a place, for example like Israel or the Czech Republic.).
The long term prospects are dim, given our increasingly useless education system and the relentless barrage of nonsense pouring from the media. But who knows, we might come to our senses. If not, we’ll be following the U.S. down the toilet.
Shamrock, something about that is schedule to run tomorrow.
But actually, such good news about Canada makes me even more glum when I meet these math-challenged, no-nothing-but-think-they-know-everything dufuses. You could present irrefutable proof that Harper & Co’s reasonable management of the economy is a primary reason why things are so good here now. You could present irrefutable proof that The Shiny Pony is a card-carrying Nazi who abuses young children (he isn’t & doesn’t btw) and they would still hate Harper and vote for Trudeau.
But when anyone in Western Canada, whether they be born here or move here, tells me that Pierre Trudeau was a unifying force for the country, the hairs on the back of my neck spring to attention like a Spidey-sense!
I am trouble to hear that Canada has its own version of our Low Information Voters. In the States, it is rapidly getting worse.
“Very few consider issues and party platforms unless they have personal involvement in one specific pet issue.”{
I disagree with that, IF we’re talking about Canadians who actually VOTE. Take, for example, the B.C. NDP. It doesn’t seem to have dawned on the mainstream media that the policy platform touted by Adrian Dix in our recent provincial election was a vote killer. Increasing taxes, when so many middle income workers are struggling to make ends meet, and not supporting large scale projects that would add jobs was just plain dumb.
Me too Kroket – Harper has been disappointing from the perspective of a principled reformer – but Harper and CPC caucus’s descent from principled reformers into “Ottawa disease” rubber stamps and spending freaks is proof that it is the system and not the people we send there which is the problem. I believe it is a self perpetuating problem and the parties and denizens of its bureaucracy will not change it because it is not in their interests to do so – it;s just too damn comfy being a career bureaucrat or politician who line their own nests with our extorted tax money – the system resists change from within – so essentially parties/leaders/regimes come and go but the systemic corruption, kleptocracy and unrestrained overreach go on.
Living with this constantly degenerating governing system has been a drain on the nation’s productivity and human resources as well as the damage corruption has on society as it percolates down from the top. this is why I have become a political atheist – no party or political agenda will change things for the betterment of the majority outside the governing class. That change must come as the result of a groundswell grass roots movement to reform the governing system by drastically down sizing it and holding it directly accountable to the public. But I’m not too hopeful for that seeing the zombies the tsunami of media and government BS creates. This Brazilian girls is a good example of a Partisan lobotomy – too conditioned with alternative history/reality and pure partisan BS to see past the superficial cult of personality that hides the corrupting monster. She may wise up on her own but generally these partisan zombies need the glorious power structure they worship to screw them over good before they regain their rational focus and gain a healthy jaundiced attitude towards government.
I’m not worried about Jr. Conservatives are notorious for showing up at the polls.
Occam “Harper has been disappointing from the perspective of a principled reformer – but Harper and CPC caucus’s descent from principled reformers into “Ottawa disease” rubber stamps and spending freaks is proof that it is the system and not the people we send there which is the problem.”
You can have your principled reformer, Preston Manning, in perpetual opposition or you can shuffle a little to the middle and govern. I think that Chretien and finance minister, Paul Martin, were by far more fiscally competent than Harper and company but some things on the conservative agenda are getting accomplished. Damn CBC is still there.
Want a few facts to back up your fear? Read Steyne America Alone and After America. If you already worry about the West, his books will drive it home.
My first wife was of Finnish extraction – her father, who had probably been in Canada 40+ years, thought the Conservatives wanted to send him (‘him’ in general), back, so he always voted Liberal. Go figure.
You can have your principled reformer, Preston Manning, in perpetual opposition or you can shuffle a little to the middle and govern.
I’ll take a semi-effective opposition over a governance by a statist tool like PM Harper anyday. The former gave spending reductions and balanced budgets. Harper will never produce either.
One way I’ve heard it:
“Adversity makes men; prosperity makes monsters.”
Well, you might be right. And time will tell, of course. And the only Conservative prime minister to date to win four elections in a row was Macdonald, etc., etc., etc.
Nevertheless, as Mr. Steyn regularly points out about Mr. Obama, the latter’s not exactly a product of the Westminster system — doubly true, in his case, considering that he faces the most cursory and minimalist examination from the Washington media crowd of maybe any president in history. And as the Westminster system, which isn’t precisely the system they have in, you know, Brazil, evolved in such a way as to make the lead minister of the Crown always, er, look bad, I think Mr. Trudeau has a ways to go. On the other hand, I’ll admit, on a very personal level, to enjoying Brazil’s principal popular export, which as you know, does not involve hair: with no undue presumption intended, I hope your lady friend partakes, for “mutual and general advantage“, to quote Churchill on an unrelated issue.
Getting back to hair and the Westminster system, though, I think Mr. Trudeau, Jr. has had yet another bad week. I won’t repeat what I wrote at the Rathgeber (did I get that right this time?) resignation-from-Tory-caucus thread, posted by lance, I think it was, of a couple of weeks back. And I won’t dwell, as a growing number of media types are doing, on his, er, lying about taking money from publicly-funded agencies in Ontario (you know, the province with the $300 billion debt, brought to courtesy of the former premier who both did that — after he solemnly promised the CTF that he wouldn’t — and who just buggered off to Harvard to join his, um, friends).
But the loss of Mr. Rae, who, despite his rather “checkered“ political career, was more or less a force in parliament, presents a substantial problem for Mr. Trudeau, Jr.: Justin is neither a force in parliament, nor a force of ideas in the country. Even Joe Clark had more than that.
It’s not about “games” and game strategy – it’s about principle, it’s not about politics, it’s about statesmanship and any acquiescence to the “game” is a loss of principled governing kowtowing to special interests and media with whorish agendas – with all the compromises Harper has made to stay in power what has really been accomplished by reforming things so insignificantly that it leaves a mess?
Like Muldoom – he had ten years of massive majority to turn things around but what happened – Mila’s shopping binges with brown envelope money – the system corrupts because it is not transparent nor directly accountable.
Good points
Good points Occam. Because the “Ottawa disease” seems to affect 100% of politicians who go there, I’ve previously suggested that the federal government be moved out of Ottawa to Ellesmere Island; a location so unpopular with the average Ottawa resident that would likely result in only a fraction of the snivel servants making the move.
What we’re dealing with here is whether someone votes on the basis of an emotional opinion or a rational opinion. The majority of young voters are severely challenged in the rationality department. I remember when the elder Turdeau was running for PM for the first time and I was distinctly underwhelmed by him. Speaking Ukrainian and Croatian before I learned English, I thought his policy on bilingualism was totally idiotic and felt discriminated against as my set of languages didn’t include French. What I found surprising was that, even in my high school in Calgary at the time, there seemed to be an almost universal support for this moron by the females in the class. One of my teachers, IMO, crossed the line when she began gushing about how wonderful Turdeau was when she should have been teaching. My response to this was to get a group of guys together with Conservative campaign signs and picket her house one evening. This resulted in hollow threats by her to call the cops on us but the end result was that there was a singular lack of adoring comments about Turdeau in her class subsequently.
One of the ways of preventing this aberrant female preoccupation with external appearances would be to completely prevent politicians from appearing in public in their natural form. Instead, they would only appear in a standard metal case covering their whole body with their voice altered to resemble that of computer generated speech. This would totally eliminate the emotional as a factor in choosing who to vote for and would result in focusing voters on a politicians policies and whether the politician was capable of rational thought. In fact, to create a level playing field among politicians, once an individual chooses to enter politics, then they should not be allowed to appear in their true form while in public as long as they are actively involved in politics.
In the case of the Turdeau spawn, he would be an object of ridicule in such form given that his cognitive abilities are almost non-existent. It seems that young women will excuse stupidity in a male they view as sexually desirable but not in a male where they have no desire to bear his offspring.
The current anti-Trudeau ads run by the Tories have completely the wrong tone, IMHO, unless they have completely given up on young females. Instead of the sneering and disparaging portrayal, which may ignite the blood of the bluest of Tories but do nothing if not harden the attitudes of those on the fence, I would suggest they try the following:
(Pictures of Trudeau, some flattering, some not so much, but more that are flattering than not)
(female voice overs) Oh, I think Justin is really handsome.. he’s so attractive.. I have a secret crush on him..
(same female voices, slightly more serious tone) But I don’t think voting for Prime Minister should be done on looks.. It’s an important job, not a beauty pageant.. I don’t think Harper’s attractive, but he does look serious and hardworking..
(one female voice) I mean, if we turn the election into a contest about appearance and celebrity, who comes after Justin Trudeau? (laughing) Justin Bieber? (all women laughing)
This approach allows the swing female to acknowledge her attraction to JT, but helps her realize the disconnect between physical attraction and what the country needs. Later ads in the campaign could follow the same format – acknowledgement of his charisma, and then a more dispassionate look at his record – the money from charities, absence from Parliament, goofy statements – each one gently leading to the view “Sure, I’d like to sleep with him but vote for him? I’m not so sure..”.
It may not get these women to vote Tory, but it might get them to stay home, which is nearly as good.
