Reader Tips

During the three years that I’ve been hosting the Reader Tips (I co-hosted with Vitruvius for several years prior to that) I’ve been searching in vain for the musical Holy Grail, for that one magic song that every single commenter, without exception, will approve of and enjoy. Tonight, I am happy to announce, with no small measure of self-satisfaction, that I’ve finally Found It.
Special thanks go out to TJ and all the other members of the Eternal Complaints Council, whose unceasing tough-love criticism has been the spur that drove me over the years to undertake this now-completed quest. I shall remain eternally grateful.
Tomorrow, we return to our regular programming.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

  1. “A bombshell in the Iranian election: moderate cleric Hasan Rowhani won by an unexpectedly wide margin….Tens of thousands of Hasan Rowhani’s supporters streamed onto the streets to celebrate his victory. No one had expected such a clear win for the moderate cleric in the first round of voting.”
“The result of the election could well cause consternation for those in the conservative camp. They spent several months trying to avoid a split by searching for a single candidate to rally behind, and so raise the chances of a victory for conservative forces around Khamenei. But the search was officially abandoned recently when they couldn’t come to an agreement…”

  2. “…Why aren’t CBC and Star reporters going after McGuinty, Liberals?”
Because no one demands excellent (fair)journalism? I mean, c’mon now…we’re Canadians.
Face it, we’ve settled for MacKenzie King, Bill Davis, Turdo la Jaune, Da Liddle Guy, Bob Rae, Dildo McDinky, Danny Williams…and soon….Turdo la Doo.
With such a history of misery and mediocrity in our selection of Canada’s leaders, do you really think we’d demand a higher standard in our journalists?

  3. The Canadian connection of the singing duo: Gordon Robert “Gordie” Tapp, CM, O.Ont is a Canadian entertainer. Tapp studied at the Lorne Greene Academy of Radio Arts. He was the host for Main Street Jamboree, a radio program broadcast from Hamilton during the 1950’s.

  4. Well, I don’t know about anybody else, but I enjoyed tonight’s selection. Gordie Tapp was a fun sort of guy.

“It’s a good news column today: the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand has seriously down-rated the worry about global warming. That’s one less thing that need make us miserable.
The down rating is huge. Green co-leader Russel Norman in his speech to this month’s annual conference never once mentioned global warming. He busied himself instead taking potshots at John Key and the late Sir Robert Muldoon.”

  8. Yup. Quite enjoyed the Holy Grail selection. Could make a sort of American Gothic painting from that too.
