  1. Just sickens me the length the useful idiots go to in aiding the Islamists in their mission. Shaking down a Jewish Rabbi and telling him we’ll allegedly fire you if you let that female Jew speak in your PRIVATE house of worship. Do they have any idea how corrupt and incompetent and despicable the police brass look on this issue? Who’s controlling and supervising the “Diversity officer, an Iran Imam? So now the police and Wahhabists are telling Jews who can enter their houses of worship.

  2. Yep, dysfunctional bully pulpit tactics because the ostensible public authority has no backbone.
The rough rule of thumb is you have ‘free speech’ but it doesn’t include Molotov cocktails or threats thereof…and if you anticipate such you police the event properly.
Caving in to every malcontent doesn’t preserve free speech…it is unpopular speech that need protecting.

  3. “I read in the Toronto Sun today that Inspector Ricky Veerappan had forced Rabbi Mendel Kaplan to cancel Pamela Geller’s speech at his synagogue. This is a travesty and just another indicator how our authorities are pandering to Islam. Ms. Geller speaks the truth about the incredible danger to our society and freedoms from Islam as we have seen in recent events both here and in Boston. In my view this is another chapter in shutting down any criticism of Islam and muslims as those like Mark Steyn or Maclean’s who point out the facts are called Islamophobic or racist and subjected to the laughable Human Rights Tribunals where truth is not a defence. As reported by CSIS and the RCMP jihadis from across Canada are joining in terrorist actions attacking non-muslims around the world. Why bother warning Canadians about these events when organizations like yours take steps to insure any voice is silenced that responds to these warnings. Mosques across Canada preach hatred for our way of life and muslim speakers with all sorts of terrorist backgrounds are allowed to make speeches in Canada yet we are not allowed to protest these actions but are closely scrutinized to make sure we don’t cross your ever-moving “hate” crime lines.”

  4. Looks like Morontario has really fallen for the facist ways of the leftards, especially McDinky. No problem for them though. They are actually below sheeple in the GTA.I have no idea what to call them.

  5. This police chief is a disgrace to the badge he wears and an insult to all human beings. To bully a man of God and threaten his job if he does not comply with your warped wishes is something the entire police force and the city should be ashamed of. There can be no justification for his actions.

oh, c’mon you right-wing knuckle draggers… this is no different than when the police leaned on those imams to crush any mention of, well… wait a minute
A Toronto mosque that runs an Islamic school cleared of hate crimes charges this week said Friday it was disappointed at the “rush to judgment and harsh comments” it faced over the controversy.
Teaching materials on the school website not only encouraged boys to keep fit for jihad, but also referred to Jews in disparaging terms such as “treacherous” and compared Islam to “the Jews and the Nazis.”

  7. “… Ms. Geller speaks the truth…”
That’s not relevant. Even if Ms. Geller doesn’t speak the truth, any complaint from anyone in advance of the event should cause the police to do no more than send two officers to listen to her and assure the complainers that they will only take action against her once she does something illegal. A statement by any person or group that their followers or members might be unable to contain themselves in response to her speech should cause the police the police to say “Thanks for the warning, we’ll be close by and ready for riot, no matter what the perceived provocation, anybody who gets out of line gets a ride in a police car.” It’s called the rule of law, and when the police aren’t sure they can maintain it, they are supposed to call on a form of backup called Military Aid to the Civil Authority.

  8. So, given the above, why did “we” arrest and detain those two VIA Rail dissruptors last week? Hmmmmmm?

  9. Since when are the York Police enablers of “duct tape speech codes”…?
Ms Geller has broken no law, nor advocated violence…and why should Rabbi Kaplan on pain of sanction, ie losing chaplaincy, have a list of York Police ‘politically correct’ guests?
Where pray tell are the paens to free speech now?
    Abolish S.13 of the CHRC.

  10. Forgot to add the following in my comment above:
So when are the York Police adding the officer responsible for “homogeneity, inequity, and exclusion”?

  11. Keep in mind, the Supreme Court of Canada decision of a couple of months past.
Just because something is true or not, has no bearing on whether or not something is deemed to be hate speech. The idea of “free speech” is not protected in Canada, although many of us believe we hold this right still.

  12. Of course the police are wrong to tie the two issues together but quite frankly Rabbi Kaplan should be willing to give up the position. Is this a volunteer or paid position.
Police shouldnt threaten and he shouldnt care if he keeps the position, particularly if its a paid one.
Doesnt look like any angels in this discussion other than Ms Geller, who was just going to talk.

  13. stephen…..stop posting using your “freedom” of speech here,or we will make sure you lose your job and no EI.Then when you lose your house, wife, etc. not a problem. You were just obeying the brown shirts.Oh.And you can’t disagree,as we deem you a bigot and speaker of hate. God,the stupid burns.

  14. Because “we” were persuaded that they were planning mass murder. The complaint about Pam Geller was that she was going to give a speech, only to an audience that would make the effort to go to a private venue to hear it.

  15. Comment at BCF: I cannot believe this shit is happening in the country of my birth.
    My response:
Me neither … As a seventh-generation Canadian whose family has contributed to the founding of this nation and whose father and grandfathers fought for our freedoms in two world wars, I am disgusted, appalled, and discouraged that we seem to have allowed the invasion of our country by moral aliens.
This is what has happened under the banner of “multiculturalism”: We’ve essentially invited aliens who do not share our democratic values — Mars Attacks, anyone? — to our fair shores and, naively, have given them positions of “authority,” despite the fact that they have no idea about our democratic ideals and laws which, ironically, are based on Judeo-Christian values. Ironic because it’s Jews and Christians who are getting it in the jugular, partly because the “authorities” know we won’t threaten or blow up those with whom we disagree.
These aliens have brought their tribal values to Canada and are now imposing them on us — who pay their inflated salaries — to subjugate us and desecrate our rule of law way of life which has defined Canada since its founding.
    We’ve been invaded, folks.

  16. Excellent follow up commentary from Ezra.
Quite a few questions for Ricky to respond to…

  17. Ms Geller is as tenacious as a pit bull. As cutting as a wood chipper. She will win this by sheer force of conviction. Having said that she has a kind heart at base. Its only her enemies that vilify her. For what she stands for. decency, justice, Individual Liberty

  18. I am amazed at the total apathy of most Canadians towards this real threat of Islam. My progressive friends think this is a small problem and not really of concern. Despite the evidence of all the terrorist activity in Canada, even the recent arrest of the 2 muslims in the Via Rail potential bombing they are not moved to recognize this growing problem as nothing more than my ranting about muslims.
What more can we do to raise the profile of what is happening. Will it take an actual disaster to trigger this awareness or will our politicians like Wynne just trivialize that too?

  19. So let me get this straight. The rabbi would rather keep his position with York police, a government entity, rather than do the right thing and stand up for a larger principle?
The cops are dead wrong but the rabbi isn’t looking any better by choosing to hang on to a government position. Paid or volunteer, at a minimum it carries prestige.
This is exactly how government growers win you over. Give you something you probably didn’t need then threaten to take it away if you don’t cooperate.
Honestly the rabbi should have gone ahead and then publicized the fact that he was punished for exercising rights.
But make no mistake, the real issue is the cops. Living in thorn hill this doesn’t shock me. The schools my kids are in all have equity programs and have curriculum that talks social justice. The board has a goal of “equity” and they have hired expensive people to write curriculum. Meanwhile my kids school doesn’t have enough math and science books
As Kate says, the world is being run by crazy people.
