  3. President Obama on October 13, 2012 stated that he “refused to let Detroit go bankrupt” Well, Mr. Obama then you better be willing to write a very big personal check.
    With over $3.8 billion in federal stimulus funds to the city in 2009, President Obama claimed during his reelection bid to be the city’s savior. On the same day that the world is supposed to end with the much-ballyhooed sequester going into effect, Detroit’s financial woes are the inevitable result of liberal tax and spend policies.
    Michigan to Appoint Emergency Manager for Detroit

    Michigan’s governor said Friday that unless Detroit’s fortunes suddenly and miraculously improve, he will appoint an emergency manager to take control of the city that was once one of the nation’s most prosperous manufacturing centers.
    If the governor follows through with his plan, Detroit would become the largest city in the United States to have its finances placed under state control.

    Dennis Rodman plays the goofball 24/7 but I strongly suspect he’s actually quite intelligent, because he seems to be able to do a lot of things very well. Unfortunately, I believe the last time I heard his name mentioned, he was also very broke. If true, the TV show he’s doing will help deal with that.
    Kim is an “awesome kid”, says Rodman.
    Then the first thing His Awesomeness should do is free the inmates in his prison camps.
    I’ve suggested Basketball Diplomacy before for the purpose of freeing North Korea. Let’s hope it’s under way.

  12. minuteman, between pharmaceuticals and computer companies, we’re being screwed big-time.
    I liked the ’50s when life was simpler and all you needed to call someone was your immovable, black dial phone with, basically, no options. We knew our neighbours, we played outside a lot, and we looked people in the eye when we talked to them, an “art” young people today have completely failed to master.
    Sigh.

  13. Don’t worry, I’m sure if you smash *all* the spinning jennies life will just go right back to normal.
    Windows 8 is for tablets and touchscreens. Microsoft’s biggest mistake was removing the ability to turn off the touch-focused interface for regular old computers, but for $5 you can get software that will fix that (Google for “Windows 8 Start Menu”).
    Other than that, Win8 runs faster than 7 on the same hardware. It’s quite a nice upgrade if you have older computers.

  14. My big complaint is it can’t decide whether or not it is connected to my wireless network or not. Every morning I get about a 25 percent chance of it actually connecting to a link, until I shut it down and restart it. It then works fine. This doesn’t happen with any of my other computers, and it appears to be software related so I am making assumption that it is windows 8 related.

    “(Beijing) – Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in China are facing a rising default risk as prices in the global carbon trade fall, an energy consulting service of Thomson Reuters says.
    Point Carbon said in a recent report that about 2,700 of the projects in China face problems because international buyers have refused to pay for carbon credits according to prices agreed to before 2012 due to falling prices. Some buyers are asking to renegotiate prices while others want to terminate contracts.
    The CDM allows emission-reduction projects in developing countries to earn certified emission reduction (CER) credits, each equivalent to one ton of CO2, and sell the credits to developed countries.
    The downturn would cause some investors to stop getting credits issued, Point Carbon said.”
