So special it hurts

Another round of smug self-congratulations, liberal activist style:

Administrators at Northwestern University near Chicago are considering giving reparations to relatives of Arapaho and Cheyenne peoples for a massacre which occurred near the current state of Colorado about 150-years ago.
In November, a group of student activists circulated a petition demanding administrators find a way to compensate the Arapaho and Cheyenne tribes for the Sandy Creek Massacre, which took place November 29, 1864.

So, to recap: some students are demanding that their university administrators pony up reparations for an historic incident that happened three states west of them – more than a thousand miles away – 148 years ago.
Is there even a word for that?

  1. I am looking forward to the eventual onset of another ice age for two reasons:
    1. It will finally shut up the global warming cult
    2. It will cause the extinction of stupid liberals, marxists, progressives and the rest of their ilk. Hopefully a few of us with critical thinking skills will be able to survive, but if not well then a small price to pay…

  2. Yes, the word is idiocy. Evans, et al., founded NU in 1851. The Sand Creek Massacre was in 1864, when Evans was Governor of the Colorado Territory. And since he was involved in the Denver Seminary until his death in 1897, it’s unlikely he had any involvement with NU at the time of or after the massacre.

  3. “Is there even a word for that?”
“Malfesance” works for me. NorthWestern administrators have no business giving that money away. Probably there are kickbacks involved, at a guess.
Otherwise the word you’re searching for is “SUCKER!” Best said in a Bugs Bunny voice.

  4. Certainly “stupid” and “insane” are entirely inadequate. “Idiocy” and “malfeasance” are good but they are still like comparing an ordinary serial killer to Joseph Stalin.
We are a long way from universities as places of genuine education, whether in philosophy, or history, or mathematics, or physics, or chemistry. I knew back in the `60s when this all began that the many people – faculty and administrators – who sold their birthright for a mess of potage were making a disastrous blunder – but who listened, other than to think that I was strange? The consequences of their actions are only now coming to an evil fruition. Our society needs quite a number of genuinely educated persons to continue to function; and where are they to be found now?

  5. It’s easy to demand that ‘A’ pay ‘B’ any amount of money … if you’re ‘C’.
One wonders whether the “caring” students would keep singing the same tune if 50% of their after-tax income was deemed to be confiscated for this cause for the first decade of their careers.

  6. It’s a hustle. Betcha.
Somebody behind the petition has an arrangement with the proposed recipients.
    Moral extortion.

  7. I believe the word is “stupid”.
Put these yahoos to work shovelling snow or something. One can’t come up with stupid ideas when one is busy doing tiring labour.

  8. Rebels without a cause.
They think they are doing good.
There are no reasons apparent to do this.
There seems to be no interested parties wanting this.
MORONS come to mind, but that may better apply to the “administrators” who should be just saying to those with nothing to do, “GET A JOB!”
Of course this IS Obama’s world….
I really hope there is a break in the insanity when Obama’s done….

  9. I can’t think of just one word, but “bat-sh*t crazy” is an entire phrase that is more than appropriate.

  10. And, just because we don’t want to discriminate against anyone, we can assume that equal standards will be applied to the Cheyenne-Arapahoe and that they will be asked to pay reparations for the people that they kidnapped, raped, tortured and massacred over the years, including Indians of other tribes.

  11. Certainly there should be reparations made.
And to set the example, I move the university professors UNION initiate a checkoff from their members ASAP.
    Seconder?
    Carried.

  12. make a voluntary checkoff of everyone associated with this petition of at least double the largest other donation.
If they are so concerned about stupidity then let them make the biggest sacrifice.

  13. It’s waaayyyy beyond simple stupidity. It’s yet another indicator of the intellectual, emotional and ethical retardation that afflicts so much of Western society.

  14. Yes there is a word for that “progressive” defined as moromic, insane, entitlement, liberal. All have the same meaning and are interchangable.

  15. NAISA.NAACP.SDS. EGALE.SWINE.
Seems like there’s an association for every “cause” on the planet. Maybe the admin at NWU should deduct grade points for joining in activism instead of busting their ass to learn their lessons.
I may form my own association, TSATOFSE; Taxpayers Sick and Tired of F***ing Social Engineers.

  16. It is called “Hughphilism”, the word, is a combination of two names of the stupidest trolls on this board. i now declare( in my best Juan Antonio Samarach voice), the word for liberal stupidity is “Hughphilism” . There you all have it, go forward and use it.

  17. Why not? Just tack it on to their tuition. As long as taxpayers aren’t involved, who cares how fools and their money get separated.

  18. I take exception to using the name Hugh in your new found word. My husbands name is Hugh and he is far from the stupidity of the trolls.
Why are we worring about spending our kids inheritance when they are more than happy to spend it themselves on stupid and inane things such as this?

  19. Al_in_Ottawa “Is it just my eyes or do the members of the Native American and Indigenous Student Alliance look very white?”
You certainly don’t mean Teresa Spence white or Mohawk white. Then there’s Micmac white. Nothing wants to make me puke more than a red headed person out west whining about how hard done by they are because they are Metis.
I knew one red headed Metis that the US border guards wouldn’t let go back to her job in the US despite a Metis card. Racist bas**rds.

  20. Taking money from people who had nothing to do with the massacre and giving it to other people who had nothing to do with the massacre clearly serves the interests of social justice.
It’s as if individuals don’t exist, only races.

  21. HE, Hee, heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…
Apologies to eliza, but,I think it’s gonna stick.
hughphilism: n., (1) Liberal stupidity of the most infantile nature, (2) commentary that is symptomatic of delayed emotional, intellectual or moral development, (3)counter-argument or accusation based on childish bias rather than fact, (4)……

  22. ‘One wonders whether the “caring” students would keep singing the same tune if 50% of their after-tax income was deemed to be confiscated for this cause for the first decade of their careers.’

It would take less than 10 seconds to clear the room, Robert! If the msm were responsible they would be demanding that every ‘idea’ for ‘funding’ come directly from the group demanding the funding for their ‘worthy’ cause; the demands would end promptly.
The ‘elite’ Bolshevik ilk are stingy and very protective of their own money. They hate people, they don’t give to filthy people – they GET -via skimming off from the $$ redistribution from real people who really do wish others well. Example: the organizers who profited personally from Chief Spender’s transfer payments/Diamond mine payments.

  23. The largest number of Medals of Honor given for any single engagement were to soldiers who massacred the Sioux at the Wounded Knee Massacre. Apparently the soldiers killing mostly unarmed Indians were braver than those at say D-Day, Okinawa, or the Battle of the Bulge. Massacres were unfortunate but were often a case of settling the score. The massacre of white civilians in the Dakota War of 1862 numbered as many as 800. Custer lost close to 300. At Sandy Creek they were hardly trying. After butchering civilians in Minnesota, White Cap and his band came to Saskatchewan to escape and they’ve been there ever since.

  24. Paging General Custer’s kinfolk, counter-suit in aisle three.
In all fairness the progressives are just following deBeers policy; throw enough money at the FN and they will shut up for a while. I have yet to see the treaty that explains that traditional hunting grounds refer to minerals, diamonds and such. Kind of like the “casino” clause or the Caledonia clause which states that a sale is a sale unless your great-great-great grandchildren get bored and decide it wasn’t.
By the same logic the Colorado progressives use, the Hurons and Siouan peoples should be compensated by the Iroquois League. Some people don’t read history or even understand it. First Nations were frikkin’ massacring and taking over each other’s territories long before those evil European settlers came along.
“Break a deal, spin the wheel.” Is this crap ever going to end?

  25. a word for this?
    leftism? liberalism? progressivism?
Almost everything they do is absurd or done for absurd reasons

  26. I would tell the students to [censored] spend their own [censored] money on their own [censored] stupid drama-queen projects.
It’s time to stop being polite to these asshats. Tell them to their faces that they are fools and scum. Tell all their supporters the same. Never lose an opportunity to mock them.

  27. The looney left….their brains never rests….or works for that matter…when logic is put in the mixsa43c4….////

  28. “…drama-queen projects…”

I think that’s THE essential point in this and other such cases. The great British blogger David Thompson has made the case over the years – so comprehensively and eloquently as to prove the case, IMO — that it’s always really about them, not about the putative objects of their ‘anti-injustice’ campaigns.

“It’s time to stop being polite to these asshats.”

Absolutely. The default setting for most people, even conservatives, is to be somewhat cowed, at least in a person-to-person sense, by the severity of the original injustice that these oh-so special little princes and princesses almost pruriently appropriate and rub in their own bellies. In so doing we allow them to get away with falsely – and repulsively – conflating the corporeal suffering of people they’ve never met with their own moral/intellectual standing in the present.
They’re like Moonies, essentially, but with a widespread cultural stamp of approval. They must be stopped.

  29. What I want to see is a list of the Norman French societies who are passing the hat to reimburse the Saxons who were the aboriginal people who were displaced when William the Conquerer invaded England in 1066.
Of course the Saxons would have to reimburse the Picks, Angles and Gaels who went before them.
Are there any news items about Englishmen chasing Welsh and Scottish people to pay them for their past misdeeds?

  30. Exactly.
I want two things from Westminster: an admission of guilt for clearing my ancestors off their crofts two-hundred years ago, and a big fat cheque as a sign of true contrition.
Remember the line from one of the Monty Python movies: “Help! I’m being oppressed!”

  31. Hey, there were people in the British Isles before the Celts turned up. I think they’re related to the Basques.
Also, I want reparations from Scandis.

  32. …there were people in the British Isles before the Celts turned up. I think they’re related to the Basques..
And the Basques are definitely related to the Atlantains, who were the ancestors of the Apache…so there you go – ALL orginal people are Indians!

  33. “Is there even a word for that?”
    ~EBD
No, but there is a phrase. The phrase is ‘higher tuition’.

  34. Put it up to a vote: All the money for this cause to come out of the University’s endowment, student fees, and faculty pay, I’ve no objection what they do with their money.
