Obama’s Inauguration: Different Americans, Different Views

The following appeared on my Facebook News Feed this morning. The first is a female friend in Florida and the second is a male friend in Texas:

Related: The most recent podcast of Mona Charen and Jay Nordlinger is worth a listen. Pay particular attention to the segment beginning around 7:50, from which several interesting questions arise for our friends on the Left:

  1. How is it that you’re comfortable supporting a president who actively and unabashedly despises about half of Americans?
  2. Is it a healthy thing for a country for its leader to so openly show such negative feelings towards 50% of its citizens?
  3. Do you deny that journalists are much more less adversarial with Obama than they were with his predecessor?
  4. Is it a good thing for journalists to not hold a politician accountable for his or her actions & policies?

  1. Does Susan know her Great Unifier invoked ” Voting is the best revenge ” to move his oters to the pols. Susan is simply a clown who is comfortable with the hate in Obama, because it validates her own hatred.

  2. Good to see the “likes” for that guy James out doing his fair share today.
and, Robert, do you have *any standards* regarding your Facebook friends? 😉 .. (we all have those..).

  3. The USA is already a economic basket case. 4 more years of Obama should guarantee the whole bottom drops out of that basket. He will make history all right, just nothing worth celebrating.

  4. So Biden is using Allen Rock’s line re: gun control..”If we just save one life…”
    Funny that.

  5. If your friend, Susan, likes Republicans so much ,why doe she have “Go Oboma” at the end of her tweet?……..From what I heard about the Republican Convention, the biggest, bestest party was hosted by the gay Republican contingent.

  6. Love Susans comment pro women, pro gay, if these are true then pro unity and pro opportunity for all can’t be. Libs don’t even know they are contradicting themselves.

  7. I don’t think that Obama despises 50% of Americans. I think he despises them all.
BUT, he thinks he can control over 50% of them. Anyone whom he can’t control, has no existence for Obama. Therefore, it might be more accurate that for Obama, at least 50% have no real existence in his mind; and, he feels no obligation to represent them or their interests as President.
The 50% whom he acknowledges, he will acknowledge only as long as they are submissive followers of Him.
His agenda this term is to expand his adulatory base. He’s going after the hispanic crowd, he’s going to enlarge the ratio of those dependent on government handouts. He’s going to continue to crush individual free enterprise and private businesses.
And, he’s going to expand his propaganda and its effects, which will totally sideline Congress, by his Direct Contact Propaganda Machine.

  8. Isn’t this the part of the movie where we realize that Florida is infested with zombies – and we call in the the nukes to sterilize it?
Tex, would you do the honours?

  9. As far as I can tell, Big Bad Jim, Tex ain’t got no nukes. But I think we still do down here in Florida…

  10. Came home to see the wife had put CNN on and watched a couple of minutes of the Obama-thon before I had enough. I think for Bush the focus was on the riots.

  11. Sadly ET, I think what is coming to pass is your apt description of Socialism = A Wedding Cake. For those not familiar with the analogy, think about a large, tall cake. The majority of it, 95% sits between surface. This part represents the majority of all Americans. They will be equal, in poverty and misery.
But on top of the cake sits the icing. This is the sweet spot of society and the higher you get the sweeter it is. These folks, who are aptly referred to on SDA as “Our Intellectual Betters” (in quotes for sarcasm) control everything and everyone.
I don’t know if Obama & Co. have the ability to formally break the notion of democracy in America but in practice it doesn’t matter. For if 50% + 1 of the voters (or even 45% + a whole lot of cheating) can repeatedly elect Democrat Presidents who primarily rule by Executive Orders then they’ve effectively beaten the constraints the reins of democracy.
The one thing that may do them in though is the absolutely massive debt. I’m thinking that this is going to cause states and cities and towns MAJOR problems over the next 4 years.

  12. So the “One” swore the Oath of Office on two books today. I think it’s a Muslim thing that the Koran must be on top. Interesting that “under God” was also left out.

  13. I thought Obama’s inauguration speech was genuinely disturbing, a harbinger of worse things to come. Traditionally, inaugural addresses are delivered from the point of view of a modest and patriotic victor, with the intention of uniting Americans under one flag. This one was the opening shot in a reinvigorated campaign to fundamentally transform America, and a telegraphed shot across the bow of the half of Americans who oppose his agenda. It had the pall of evil and of out-of-control power and demagoguery, and was disrespectful to tradition, and to the presidency itself.
Wrt Robert’s Facebook friend, I’ve met a couple of these “Susans” too. After an hour or so of talking to them I realize that they’re not evil by nature, they’re actually brainwashed, and I use that word advisedly. They’ve passively absorbed every single progressive mantra, exactly as promoted by academia, Hollywood, the TV industry, the CBC, etc. etc.
How should one view — how do one treat — someone well-intentioned but uninformed who supports colossally destructive forces like Obama? It’s a personally difficult issue, and there’s no easy answer.

  14. Most of the “Susans” in the world are liberal arts ‘educated’. Liberal arts teaches people to accept everything, there is no good or bad, just artistic opinion. Science and engineering require analysis and discernment, and making the best choices from a variety of options. Ø’s propaganda appeals to the non-analytic ‘thinkers’ who know how they feel and don’t want their preconceived notions confused with inconvenient facts. America is doomed to failure, sooner or later.

  15. One must revive the art of de-programming. Wean them off the Kool-aid before the next Jonestown.
Obama has no love for the country we was inexplicably elected TWICE to lead nor does he want North America to be successful (re: Keystone). However, if one wishes to be Santa Claus, as Obama was during the campaign to a bunch of total morons, one must deliver like Santa Claus. He can’t deliver. America is broke. Jobs are being lost and revenue is bleeding away. Foreign states can smell weakness in the US and will act accordingly. Those who don’t like Obama will keep disliking him and letting their dissatisfaction be known to others. Even the most willing of masses has a short fuse.
    It’s time to light it.

  16. You’re too charitable.
In order for the ‘Susans’ to believe the best about Obama, they have to first believe the worst about America.
They aren’t ‘brainwashed’, they believe the lie because they want to.

  17. Oz, just like the Russians believed the lie of Marxism. They eventually rued the day.
Sorry no link, but a turned FoxNews on just after Bernie Goldberg and Bill O’Reilly were discussing some media person’s comments of adoration likened to the second coming of the Messiah.

  18. Oz, the “Susans” I’m talking about are Canadian, not American, and they – honestly, trust me – don’t really think about, or have any awareness of, “America” as a concept or an ideal. They’re the seamlessly indoctrinated products of “soggy” progressive thinking wherein feelings — feelings of self-congratulations, of being among the cool, “aware” people – completely supplant/obviate issues like suicidal deficit spending.
What struck me in talking to them, and what alarmed and disturbed me, was that they were fully and *completely* unaware of the debt problem and the concomitant big ball of hell that’s coming down the pipe. It’s not surprising: When’s the last time you saw a CBC special on “The Looming Crisis of Bankruptcy and Overspending”, or saw a Hollywood film – any film – or a TV drama addressing the issue?
We have to admit that the left has won the culture war, in the narrow sense that it’s become the easy and most comfortable default setting for relatively good-natured, “want-to-get-along-with-everybody”, largely apolitical people who aren’t particularly informed; it’s become the “center” in broad cultural terms (particularly in terms of ‘entertainment’).

“They believe the lie because they want to.”

I think you’re assuming more awareness/interest than they actually possess. The (three) women I’m talking about are sincerely unaware of the upcoming debt-doom America is facing. Because of that, the “lie” you say they want to believe in isn’t a lie to them; they think they’re just reasonable people who believe in justice, caring for the unfortunate, fairness, etc., i.e. all the soggy crap the mushy middle has been thoroughly indoctrinated with. To use north_of_60’s description, they’re “non-analytic ‘thinkers'”, and they’ve been taught, through unexamined social enforcement, that their soggy thinking and innumeracy counts as “thinking.”

  19. “We have to admit that the left has won the culture war, in the narrow sense that it’s become the easy and most comfortable default setting for relatively good-natured, “want-to-get-along-with-everybody”, largely apolitical people who aren’t particularly informed”
    ~EBD
    Very true, EBD.
I don’t watch TV though, haven’t done since cancelling the cable back in April 2000. I watched the Twin Towers come down live on the internet during 911.
Still, being inculcated by Leftist culture means believing the worst that said culture says about the west in general and America in particular. The same could be said of the apolitical people who went-along-to-get-along in Hitler’s 3rd Reich or even the kids at the local K-12 school who take part in following the bully’s lead in being cruel to whomever the bully decides should be the next body to stand on to make themselves taller.
The “lie” they believe in is that we are collectively guilty of unjust behaviour and must be individually coerced by government power to care for the unfortunate, be fair, etc.
If they were truely apolitical they wouldn’t have any opinion on such things one way or another.
Robert’s facebook ‘Susan’ writes that Obama is pro-women/gay/unity/opportunity-for-all. That is not apolitical. The assumption, which you must have noticed, is that Obama is needed to be ‘pro’ these things as a pushback against some unstated others who are ‘anti’ these things.
Apolitical ‘Susans’ should have no position one way or the other and should not notice Obama is pro-anything or even vote.
It isn’t so much that I’m assessing the awareness of these ‘Susans’ as much as I’m assessing their personal responsibility. If they were genuinely apolitical I wouldn’t think they were as responsible for the destruction of our way of life, particularized analytical issue awareness notwithstanding.

  20. Fine post EBD. I agree completely.
We live in-Urban hives where people are so cocooned, they don’t know what is real or not.
Instead they follow a lying press to feed them Pablum.

  21. We live in-Urban hives where people are so cocooned, they don’t know what is real or not. Instead they follow a lying press to feed them Pablum.
Quite true, however only 80% live in the ‘urban hives’. There’s still 20% of Canadians who shun the big cities and do know what is real and what is not.
Cities are an un-sustainable evolutionary dead end. The human density in cities will make it easier for the inevitable viral plagues to decimate the population and restore the balance. That’s what the planet always does with any species that exceeds it’s carrying capacity. Only human arrogance makes them believe they’re immune to planetary forces.

  22. Relax, the clock is ticking; “four more years” just isn’t enough time, not for someone who can never be president again. I don’t doubt that both the Republicans and the Democrats are actively brainstorming the “post-Obama” political landscape even as I write this.
Presidential term limits: an ingenious American solution to the cult of personality!

  23. EBD, you are right and it is a sad state. Some wonder how the Germans could support a man like Hitler, and I think this state gives us some idea.

  24. Of course, those “urban hives” are VERY susceptible to power outages. Without electricity, they rapidly return to the fetid cesspools they so truly are. And at least in the US, not one major metropolitan area can supply enough power to feed itself. When the war starts, rather than worry about blockading the cities, one would do better to merely cut their power. All that electricity feeds into those cities through LONG high voltage lines. Short some of those lines, either phase-to-phase or phase-to-ground, and the city should fall dark rather quickly. Now of course one does NOT want Billy Joe Bubba John doing his “Hey y’all, watch this!” to short those lines. No sense getting the good guys killed. But a good high voltage power guy should be able to take them out safely. And, of course, the preference is for the short to actually cut the line instead of just tripping the breakers. And if this is done a ways out from the city, in rugged terrain, it will be a while before they get that feed back. And then one can just take out a different set of lines…

  25. The part I don’t get; Obama is still campaigning, he never stopped, it’s as though he expects a 3rd, 4th, 5th and even a 6th Term. That, or Michelle is gona run in 2014 and 2016.
Well, either way Robert, I too have a couple of Susan’s on my facebook. Never ceases to amaze me.

  26. Those four questions wouldn’t trouble a leftist one bit:
    1. “But the Republicans HATE him and obstructed everything he tried to do! Why shouldn’t he call them out for what they are?”
    2. “Same answer!”
    3. “Because Bush was WRONG about everything! Obama’s RIGHT about everything! The reporters are just telling us the TRUTH!”
    4. “But they do! What are you talking about? Just cause Bush was WRONG and Obama’s RIGHT doesn’t mean they aren’t holding him accountable! They ask him questions & stuff all the time!”
Do not think for one minute that unabashed leftists are creatures of reason. They are not. They are creatures of POWER, and will stop at no hypocritical behaviour to get it.
