Obama “No” for Keystone XL?

Sure looks like it to me:

We, the people, still believe that our obligations as Americans are not just to ourselves, but to all posterity. We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations. Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms. The path towards sustainable energy sources will be long and sometimes difficult. But America cannot resist this transition; we must lead it. We cannot cede to other nations the technology that will power new jobs and new industries – we must claim its promise. That is how we will maintain our economic vitality and our national treasure – our forests and waterways; our croplands and snowcapped peaks. That is how we will preserve our planet, commanded to our care by God. That’s what will lend meaning to the creed our fathers once declared…

  1. Sounds like Canada needs the Enbridge pipeline. Although US funded pressure groups will no doubt keep trying to keep that option off the cards as well.

  2. I wouldn’t worry about Keystone.
Whats that phrase… say one thing;do another?
He’ll reward his union buddies, and appologise to the greenies, by banning owls or something.

  3. This is all typical Obama rhetoric, glorious in its sounds and utterly and totally empty in its meaning.
Obama has only one agenda: personal power. He’s not interested in American well-being; he’s not interested in the environmental well-being. He’s interested only in his ability to control others. That’s it. Period.
So, depriving others of wealth and above all of the ability to make wealth, now that’s a priority. That’s his key economic strategy.
Depriving Americans of internal energy resources, that’s a priority.
Developing a higher proportion of the population dependent on government, that’s a priority.
Increasing his own power and control over others’ ability to resist him, that’s a priority.
Increasing his electoral base by catering to special identity blocs, that’s a priority.
Ignore the words. Obama is incapable of doing anything other than: speak. All he can do is campaign.
He’s unable to interact with others as equals; he’s the Community Organizer bloated into the role of a President. Couple that with his narcissism, and you’ve got the result: A Demagogue.
Watch him move more and more into dictatorship this term, and watch his speeches ressemble, more and more, copies of the Third Reich.

  4. This shouldn’t surprise anybody.
A lot of ignorant corporate types were assuming that once Obama won, he wouldn’t be facing a third term so he would be less beholden to the leftwing fringe that he needed to appeal to in order to win his second term.
The assumption was that he’d just rubber stamp the pipeline because…well…why wouldn’t you do that?
Which only reveals how out of the loop corporate types (especially in Canada) are when it comes to their bottom line being impacted by politics.
Keystone is dead, dead, dead. The Northern Gateway pipeline is dead, dead, dead.
Alberta is being run by a United Nations lawyer who is now running deficits of 3 billion a year. But hey! The oil companies supported her because the Wildrose Party is scary right?
The only good thing about Obama 2.0 is that he will most likely hit overreach and the backlash in 2016 will be fantastic. If only the GOP could get their stuff together to take advantage of it.
    Oh well.

  5. You know, the U.S. economy is not going to destroy itself. It needs somebody with a breathtaking combination of hubris and incompetence, of ignorance and arrogance, to destroy a nation.

  6. Four more years of this imbecile?
It’s like watching over a remote camera while a viscious mugger repeatedly kicks his already-unconscious victim in the head.
Good-bye, USA – InOrgyRation #2 is the funeral service for America.

  7. You know, the U.S. economy is not going to destroy itself. It needs somebody with a breathtaking combination of hubris and incompetence, of ignorance and arrogance, to destroy a nation.
You’re right – good description of the electorate.

  8. Once the pigs get a taste of free money and cool shucknjive concerts by the ever classy Gaga and Beoncie they will vote for entitlements for 35 years at least. Turdo promised free to everyone and it took forever for Canada to grow up, but the stench of overspending and fiscal stupidity will last in perpituity for our decendants, great legacy liberals always leave behind, just like the neighbors dog, are these liberals, but the cool factor, so cool.

  9. ‘…knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations.”
Unlike, say, borrowing enough money in their name to economically cripple them from birth. Our poor future generations will be sad we didn’t do more to increase global warming as they will have no money to heat their shacks!

  10. We cannot cede to other nations the technology that will power new jobs and new industries
So the U.S. will replace South Korea as the nation that is selling those rip-off wind turbines to Dalton McGuinty’s Ontario?

  11. Hey Kate,
Would “Oh, sweet grassy knoll hear my prayer” be too “risque” for a generic title when posting about the “Organizor”?
    Just checkin’

  12. “We cannot cede to other nations the technology that will power new jobs and new industries – we must claim its promise.”
According the the UNFCCC COP documents, the end game in the climate change is that national economic and technological sovereignty will cease to exist. Any technologies that a country develops that the UN decides would be useful to them, they will be allowed to take. Or in other words you didn’t build that.
So a good way to not cede technology to other nations is to create an agreement that allows you to appropriate said technologies without agreement or compensation of those who created them.
He managed to ram through Obamacare, and that was an issue Americans cared about.
Climate change legislation ought to be a cakewalk.
We will now see what Mr Harper and the Conservatives are made of. No more tiptoeing around.

  13. big Kenyan flag unfurled in crowd at Bathhouse Barry’s inauguration. CNN camera quickly switched away. he sticks it in our face.

  14. How on God’s earth do we end up electing such utter fools.
I can just imagine all the lobbyists, cronies, shysters and other crooks salivating as they line up to get easy money for various “green” projects.

  15. Right now,if you rush over to Fox News, you can see the Messiah and the Messiah-ess parading down the streets of Washington in all their grandeur, ON FOOT!
Nope, no limo for the President of the People! He’s just SO adorable!

  16. It is so simple the N.W.O. cannot take over North America until the people have no arms to defend themselves.
    MOLON LABE!

  17. So glad to know that the weather will be nice as the economy recovers and the bad guys surrender their firearms…

  18. Obama has only one agenda: personal power. He’s not interested in American well-being; he’s not interested…etc, etc, etc…
That cabbage is well chewed…wonder what the odds are of well chewed cabbage changing anything?
The Zero has one leg of three. Eventually, he will fall over.

  19. Expect a complete reversal of this and approval given to Keystone on a Friday afternoon a few months from now around 5:58pm.
Then if anyone challenges Obama on reversing himself and/or lying, his legion of sycophants IN THE MEDIA will immediately accuse the questioner of being a racist.

  20. Well put!
The US, despite many faults, was a great country until 2008, and has been
a tremendous force for good in the 20th century. The 20th century was ghastly but would have been even worse without the US. That is what that
creature in the White House is destroying.
People interested in creatures like Obama would do well to read Elias Canetti’s “Crowds and Power”, which in its hardheadedness makes Marx read
like a sentimental fool. Canetti’s central thesis is that the psychology of power is based on the psychology, not of sex, but of eating and defecating.
The despot does not seek the well-being of his people – rather, he wishes to ingest them, healthy and whole, and then eliminate them, as fetid wreckage.
Canetti’s thesis works well, and provides a strong justification for a truly democratic form of government (representative government, which avoids some of the excesses of demagoguery).

  21. So glad to know that the weather will be nice as the economy recovers and the bad guys surrender their firearms…

  22. TJ, exactly. Based on the sentences in that portion of his speech, the industrial infrastructure of the US will be turned upside down, the AGW fraud will become official policy and the personal freedoms of Americans will take more hits. This will accelerate the industrial production ascendency of China.
The various posters and photos of Obama looking upward and to the side remind me too much of similarly styled posters of another regime.

  23. “…say one thing;do another?
He’ll reward his union buddies, and appologise to the greenies, by banning owls or something.”
    Posted by: eastern paul
I think he sent that message through backchannels to secure the union vote, but it is those blue collar tradesmen he’ll betray not the eco-fascists. Not because he believes in the green nonsense, but because wrecking the economy furthers the agenda of replacing the republic with socialist despotism.

  24. I don’t know, it’s hard to figure out sincerity from pandering blather when it comes to politicians – must invigorate the base.
Isn’t the first leg of Keystone, the Cushing expansion, already under construction? From what I understand, after the re-route in Nebraska, the only part of the project that is blocked is the part that actually crosses the border. I suspect that, one way or another, the oil companies will find a way to work around politics – trains, reversing pipelines, re-purposing pipelines, increasing capacity of older lines. Something that, technically, allows Obama to keep his promise to eco-activists while pleasing his blue-collar union allies.

  25. The whole speech can be summarized very easily:
“You didn’t build that. The government knows what’s best for you and will make damn sure you don’t deviate from the course set out for you.”

  26. Eastern paul’s comments are more on the mark here.
    Oblameya lies. Remember that.
The pipeline will go thru if for no other reason than tax revenues, and to slow down the Chinese energy and manufacturing bubble.
Buffet will switch over to transportation stocks vis a vis pipelines as he did from wind power to railways.
It’s early in the game yet for Oblamyas second term.
Buffet and the dumb lib elites already gave the One his stash and he already cashed those checks.
In his second term I suspect the loyalty issue, might be a moot point as in his quest to consolidate power as he throws former cabinet members under the bus.
Lisa Jackson (EPA) and maybe Stephen Chu also.
The Greenies will be given lip service, but thrown under the bus. As useful idiots they served their purpose.,and their past due date shelf life may be up.
Increasing energy costs is a tax revenue grab, and if the tipping point has been reached,, fossil fuel production and processing can increase while funding non productive renewable s as corn husker Kickbacks.
Merkel is facing the rule of unintended consequences right now with her renewable dictate as is a lot of Europe in this recent cold snap and audits have shown renewable s are not working.
The Carbon tax fiasco’s shelf life is expired,,,but as the supply of fossil fuels (esp. Nat Gas) expands,,, the realization of a tax grab increases.
    Keystones not dead.
It’s just being played out somewhat as theater for the dumb but loyal financial contributors and useful idiots to take up air time and obfuscate the electorate on the really big s$$t that’s going down.
Embridge is Keystones ace in the hole,,, especially when both are completed.
I say when both are completed,,not one or the other.
There are Dem pigs In Washington and Wall street that want a piece of that action.
Keystone will give them that,,,Embridge,,not so much.( foreign investment etc.)
    Embridge must be built.
If for no other reason than to increase Oil Sands production when Keystone gets approved.

  27. It seems like he actually believes he can stop the globe from warming and the seas from rising.
When gasoline goes over $5 a gallon, the agenda may shift to another direction.

  28. What really causes me concern is the theme of this speech. His reiteration of the phrase “We the people” makes it sound like he is embracing the cause of liberty and the declaration of independence, but each time he says it, it is to repudiate the founding fathers, and to enumerate a new “civil right” that can only be granted by ignoring the constitution, the separation of powers, and the true, inalienable human rights that the founding fathers sought to uphold.
This entire speech is a crafty and coordinated ploy. It’s also a clarion call for a second term filled with radical activism. Look at what President Obama is promising:
    – action on climate change, (which is never good for consumers)
    – redistribution of wealth
    – arms control
    – doubling down on health care
    – “immigration reform”, ie: amnesty for illegals
    – changes to voter law
And above all this is the theme of collective action – that the individual can not do what is necessary, so the government must act.
This is Utopian Statism and triumphalism. This is a declaration that He will not be stopped.
    It’s pretty damn creepy.
    damn CAPTCHA.

  29. Jughead Obama and Dildo McDinky must be getting greased by the Chinese to drive their respective economies into the ground.
I mean, with guys like this at the helm, why would Beijing have to actively engage in espionage to get to the top?

  30. I should have added that allowing two markets to compete for the same resource should help Canada’s bargaining position for setting the price of the Oil Sands resource.

  31. Ken Kulak, yes, he does have that narcissistic posture, doesn’t he?
The thing to remember about Obama, along with his narcissism, is that he is unable to relate to reality. Reality is external to Him, and he only relates to what he can directly control. So, he lives entirely, absolutely within Words.
Words, words, words. Listen to him talk (I no longer can stand it) but it’s all empty pontificating about utopia and other blather. The FACT that his policies are all about control, and about reducing freedom and wealth..heh..no comment.
‘betray our children and future generations’? How dare he use this phrase. No-one more than Obama has betrayed the future of the children of America, with his trillions in debt and his restriction on their freedoms.
We have to hope that the GOP wake up, not to Obama, for I think many of them understand his pathology, but realize how to deal with him.
My worry is that massive propaganda machine that Obama is now setting up, which links His Words via Smart Phone and other electronic devices, directly to millions of His people. This massive propaganda machine bypasses the media, bypasses the debates in Congress – and pits Obama’s People against the Elected Representatives. That’s very dangerous.
My hope, a desperate hope, is that this propaganda machine, which Obama refuses to make available to the Democratic Party, will turn the Democrats against Him.

  32. Aye, indeed!
But maybe ‘vaselined’ would be a better word than ‘greased’ to describe what’s happening to the electorates. 😉

  33. You know…
For the last few months I’ve been seeing tanker cars, new looking ones, parked on rail sidings/yards in Michigan.
I wonder if those are Mr. Buffets?

  34. The Cushing expansion is under construction. But Obama had no say in that because it doesn’t cross international boundaries.
There are three possible responses that the Obama administration can make on this now that he is in his second term.
    1. Let it go through.
    2. Kill it.
    3. Engage in another round of study/environmental assessment/national energy strategy that takes the decision point more than four years into the future.
To me it’s evident right now that he will do #3. That way he gets to say to his Green friends, “I stopped this thing.” To industry he can say, “There’s a clear route forward to completing it.” He’s done exactly the same with nuclear waste disposal.
So, whenever there’s a decision which makes him uncomfortable whichever way he chooses, Obama punts it off to the future.

  35. Now is the time at sda where I juxtapose.
President Obama, January 15, 2013: “Raising the debt ceiling does not authorize more spending. It simply allows the country to pay for spending that Congress has already committed to.”
President Obama, January 21, 2013: “We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations.”

  36. THAT, cal2, is why I REALLY wanted the House Republicans to elect Clint Eastwood as Speaker of the House. Instead, we got “Weepy”. Which pretty well shows you what the Republican party has become.

  37. “We, the people, still believe that our obligations as Americans are not just to ourselves, but to all posterity.”
    ~Barack OWEbama
Says the man who has and is borrowing the largest debt in the history of all mankind to bequeath to future Americans.
    Posterity my posterior.

  38. Thats a fact,,I travel in southern Saskatchewan and old seldom used rail lines which enter the Balkin are been used like never before ..100 car tanker cars are being transfered to the mainline of CP Rail..THEN down the Sooline and into Portal Usa. (full of crude heading south to refinerys)..Next time I head south well send photos..could you imagine if a derailment of crude rail tankers occurred?..wow the tree huggers would be all over it!!

  39. Obama will not bridge on Keystone, and why should he? The Republicans are traitors to their voters, using the excuse ” We can’t govern from one House !” They always claim an excuse, and always will.

  40. The parallel of Obama to Trudeau is frightening.
Whatever the stated reason for the actions of his administration its becoming clear that the real goal is to rewrite the US constitution in the image of Obama, much like Trudeau’s objective wasn’t neccessarily to create any new laws or bureacracies, but to obtain the public support needed to do what he really wanted. These laws are the colateral damage of the objective.
Much like the notwithstanding clause, or official bi-lingualism, here, stricter gun controls and government run health care is the fallout of the real objective in the US.
Barry wants his legacy to be part of the history books…regardless of the damage wrecked by his desire to be worshipped.
Be warned Barry, that jobs already taken.
“Thou shall have no other gods before me”
