Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Loki – excellent points.
What the Obama gang, and their indifference to the Investment and Production phases of the economy ignore is that the Consumption phase requires that individuals have money to purchase goods. Where does this money or wealth come from?
As you note, the govt’s printing of money is not a genuine mode of wealth production; it’s actually disastrous for that printed money leads only to inflation.
To create genuine wealth, an economy must enable its private sector to keep money off the daily consumer market and invest it in long term infrastructure: factories, equipment, technology, training. This investment enables the economy to expand, hire more people, produce more goods. These two actions, investment and production, create wealth.
Printing money or borrowing it, the two tactics of the Obama regime, does not create wealth. It creates first, a population dependent on government welfare; and second, once the government runs out of money, a collapsed economy. The first agenda is most definitely desired by Obama; the second, is one that he is indifferent to; he’ll always blame someone or something else.
@ Loki
“There is a lag period between people having increased demand for a product and restarting production in a factory that was closed because of the recession.”
This is a most important point because the factories that employed and made the middle class are no longer on this continent. One trip down any isle in Walmart shows that. The middle class has nowhere to turn to except civil service, which is already bloated (21 million) or menial low paying jobs with hand to mouth wages. The middle class is a hefty portion of the 48 million on food stamps as well as the 22 million unemployed. Bringing home 10’s of thousands ex military over the next couple years will only aggravate the situation as they will join the ranks of the unemployed. I totally agree that the engine that drove the economy, the middle class, is broken beyond repair and any stimulus package to come out of the Obama government will be a flash in the pan which will only stimulate the outsourced factories and a few insiders.
All the numbers on the right hand side of the debt clock say the chance of recovering the middle class are close to zero.

ET, Knight, this isn’t really about hidden agendas. This is right out in the open, and it’s not about Obama’s narcissism particularly either. It’s about vote-buying pure and simple. I mentioned in a previous post that low interest rates mean borrow rather than use your own capital. This is of course a ponzi scheme, because government sets the interest rates (any pretence of an independent Fed was entirely lost with Geithner and probably his idiotic predecessor.)
The US is not the first nation to head down this road of consumption stimulus fueled by state debt. Japan headed this way 25 years ago. It still has virtually zero economic growth, debt that now runs to about 200% of GDP and no sign of changing course.
Prior to that, Spain in the 17th century and France in the late 18th century ruined their nations with debt burdends that ultimately could not be carried.
Forget the politicians, all of them. It only ever comes to an end with national default and the complete fiscal ruin of the nation. We are lucky in Canada to have a Prime Minister who understands this long term catastrophe. Maybe many in Obama’s administration do as well, but it doesn’t matter. The severe consequences will only happen long after they are all either dead or out of office. In short, Krugman, moron that he is, is a symptom of a much larger disease, nothing more.
Louis XV of France understood this thoroughly. “Apres moi,le deluge.”

“this isn’t really about hidden agendas…”
Whether a hidden agenda or not, I’m not overly keen on the publicly growing global disarmament agenda, nor the militarized police forces in our nations, nor the Martial Law measures imposed by the patriot act, the NDAA, the NDRP.
I’m also not keen on the intrusive TSA pat downs and searches in airports or the fact that Obamba’s Homeland Security is extending their reach to train stations, bus terminals, sporting events, and shopping malls.
Oh and also not fond of the well publicized UN Agenda 21 taking control of the sovereignty of nations resources and directing local and state level regulations under the guise of environmentalism.
But to each their own, we can all view and explain away the disintegration of our freedoms and liberties in different ways.
Again why the Horse & Train art is a brilliant analogy IMO.
Brings to mind the twisted logic of Bill Murray …. Meatballs 1979.

Knight, I agree with you about all of those intrusions. They result from the endless clamour from the public to be protected from all sorts of hazards, real and imagined. We are our own worst enemies. The politicians simply pimp to our worst fears and weaknesses.
We KNOW from history that the worst excesses always take place in the name of national security.
“The Church (state/fatherland) in danger!”
And the second worst excesses take place by waving the bloody shirt (Sandy Hook).
And every time we surrender to them.
In the short run we’d all be dead, if anyone in office took Krugman seriously.

“The politicians simply pimp to our worst fears and weaknesses.”
I can’t disagree with anything you said, but I do think you short many people in power the contemptible depths of their cunning and shrewdness. Many of these clownish fools have gone from pauper to multimillionaire and brought armies onto the heads of kingdoms.
ET mentioned that some of my comments smack of conspiracy. I guess someone needs to define conspiracy for me, because any and all political overthrows throughout history have involved conspiracy to some degree I should think.
Jena54 nailed it. People are not asking WHY. Instead Rome routinely burns with various fires flaring here and there while Nero fiddles and everyone sits around arguing about how best to put out each fire. They point fingers at each other over responsibility and blame, or shake their fists at Nero because he should be doing this or that instead of asking WHY is he either fiddling or adding fuel to the fires.

Knight99, to have an agenda, is not a conspiracy.
A conspiracy theory means that the agenda exists, but is not known to the public, is held by an unknown person or persons, behind the scenes, beyond the reach of the electorate and even, often, beyond the knowledge and reach of many of the elected representatives.
Your globalism, your ‘Stalin’, your world communism, to me, has the strong whiff of a conspiracy theory.
Now if you are instead saying that there is no particular set of people involved and holding no clear agenda. That global communism is a ‘natural’ global phenomenon, ie, not created intentionally by man, then, I’d have to ask you why it is ‘natural’.
So, I’m back to wondering about your view.
My views of globalist control groups of the ruling classes is no secret.
You can start with the UN, if you do not think there is conspirator agenda coming from that cesspit of corruption there’s nothing more to say.
There is the Bilderburger Group, the Trilateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, to name but a few groups of wealthy elitists that decide world affairs. Not forgetting the banking commissions the IMF, the World Bank, as these are implements of the global think tanks.
You can mock those facts all you wish, they exist, they are wealthy, they come from our ruling classes, and conduct their business in SECRET.
That is not conspiracy theory, that is conspiracy FACT.
If you are personally privy to or can provide minutes of the meetings from any of these groups that our world leaders routinely attend, it would be appreciated. Have any?
An impressive share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a colleague who was doing a little homework on this. And he in fact ordered me lunch because I discovered it for him… lol. So let me reword this…. Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending the time to discuss this matter here on your internet site.
